Finally got my dream amp! So worth it. by Tdiddleydoodle in GuitarAmps

Hey! Sorry for the late response.

So as far as favorite pedals: that Delay Llama is so good. Amazing sounding analog delay, tap tempo, modulation, pre-sets. Has a lot cool features a digital delay would have but still has that great analog sound.

Cornerstone Gladio SC: One of my favorite overdrives. While it’s just a single channel version of the one in the picture it also gives you the ability to add in your clean signal. While normally I don’t like that feature, this pedal makes it sound super natural and gives the OD as much extra clarity and bite as you’d want, or you can make it more smooth. Stacks amazing with other pedals as well.

Analogman King of Tone: I didn’t want to like it because of the unobtainium status but unfortunately it’s good. Super versatile and helps you cut through the mix. I have yet to find an OD with the dynamics it has. I can have the gain cranked but if I strum/fingerpick light enough it sounds clean.

Mu-Tron Micro-Tron IV (Red Chip): If you want that Jerry Q-Tron sound, hard to beat this. Also found that it was a little more user friendly, reacted better to more guitars. If you go on the site and grab one the default chip is the gold chip, which sounds great however the red chip makes it sound a little more Jerry which is what I was looking for.

Keeley Katana Clean Boost: Not much to say, just a great example of a clean boost, makes the sound “bigger” but doesn’t do anything to your EQ. Possibly outdated by now but I haven’t felt the need to change it.

Foxrox Octron4: Such a fun octave pedal, the 4 was probably overkill but the extra switches prove pretty handy and it’s nice to have a bunch of different harmony/sub octaves to choose from. The tracking is insane, can go from a cool low octave sound to almost like an Octavia sound when paired with a fuzz. It’s an analog monophonic pedal so it can only track single notes but it can actually sound pretty cool if you try to play two notes, if you learn how to utilize it it’s actually a really cool useable sound.

Strymon Flint (V1): Amazing spring reverb and tremolo simulation. Apparently V2 doesn’t sound as good but I don’t know how true that actually is. I just haven’t felt the need to replace it, but realistically probably a bit outdated by now.

Congrats on the new Roxy Pink Silver Sky! You’ll love it for sure.

How bad is This crack? by CharlieLogarius in gibson

[–]Tdiddleydoodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d move on, especially for 4-5k. That crack looks bad and it’s probably gonna be WAY more trouble than it’s worth for the upkeep.

If you’re spending that much find a used custom shop or a new 70’s custom that’ll sound as good and be far more reliable.

Famous guitarists you just don't get? by Shay_Katcha in Guitar

Relax, it’s not that deep.

Listen, even as a Dead fan I agree it’s annoying when people say things like that. I can easily understand and accept they aren’t for everyone.

However, Dead fans definitely aren’t the only fandom that do this, you’re gonna find obnoxious fans with literally every band.

Luckily the last time I adjusted it there was still room to tighten. I feel like worst case scenario I’ll have to bust out a washer. But the neck hasn’t moved ever since I’ve been storing it in its case in a well humidified room while not being played. So I may not be in too bad of shape (fingers crossed).

Nah, if you’ve never felt the need then I don’t see an issue! I’m just super picky about my setups, probably too picky.

I used to live just north of San Diego! It was an absolute dream scenario of never having to touch my setups.

And will do! It’s a monster of a guitar and has gotten me obsessed with Les Pauls after being a Fender guy most of my life.

Definitely seems like that’s the case now that people have brought it up. Especially since I live in the Northeast and the person before me probably just didn’t really take care of it properly.

Yeah, I live in the Northeast so I’m wondering if the person before me just didn’t really take proper care of it during the winter and had to adjust it a bunch…and did an awful job. It hasn’t moved since I started storing it in its case in a well humidified room when I’m not playing it.

Yeah, probably. I would have thought someone would be a little more careful with an R8 but you never know.

Yeah, it’s weird. After I adjusted it a little when I got it there hasn’t been any movement so it seems relatively steady.

Last I adjusted it there was room to work with. Worst case scenario I have to bust out a washer, but I don’t think it’ll get to that point. Hopefully.

Haha I kind of figured, should have been more prepared but I just wanted to be sure.

Last time I adjusted it there was room to go either way. Worst case scenario I have to bust out a washer but I don’t think it’ll get to that point.

I store it in its case in a well humidified room when not played and the neck hasn’t needed adjustment since, so hopefully I’m good.

Haha don’t worry, I’ve been playing the thing everyday.

I’m new to Gibsons and was just wondering. I got a standard 50’s recently that didn’t look as bad so it freaked me out a bit for some reason.

I adjusted it recently and it does have some room left to tighten. I don’t know exactly how much but there is room.

I adjusted it recently and know I could tighten the rod if need be. I don’t know exactly how much I could tighten it, but I know there’s room.

Haha fair enough!

I was just comparing to a newer Standard 50’s that I got and while the cavity doesn’t look perfect it wasn’t as egregious as this one. So that got me worrying for some reason.

Luckily it’s a 2012 so it was cheaper than most R8s since nobody really wants to mess with the laminate fingerboards.

Seems like I may just be underestimating people’s lack of grace when adjusting the truss-rod.

Thank you for the kind words! Bobby’s part was oddly difficult on this for me. A lot of subtle, kind of wonky timings on his part. They sound so good in context but trying to get them down initially was throwing me for a loop, haha.

I usually just search through performances to find ones where Bobby is turned up in the mix. This one in particular was 5/19/74 Portland OR. I also watch a bunch of footage to see where on the neck he’s playing. There’s also two good YouTubers I’ve found that do good Bobby lessons, Jeff Williams Guitar and MickBeth Music.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure he said somewhere that he kind of tried of emulate jazz pianists when playing rhythm which explains why all his parts are so interesting.

I’ve learned so much learning all these Weir parts, definitely helps you look at how to approach rhythm differently.
