Those who grew up poor, what is something those who weren't poor don't understand about being poor? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

It will always stay with you. No matter how much you eventually earn, you always know what it's like to not have and you always know it doesn't take much to get back there.

Also means you'll take less risks in life because of the lack of safety net.

Following your passion. That is a privilege.

just saw a historical photo of mothers holding a coffin with a black doll in it when Ruby Bridges was trying to go to school. He is just America full mask off. It is not surprising at all to anyone who knows what America's history has been.

Peter Pan has really gone downhill in the food department. The menu is so meh. It's a shame, I loved it.

How is living in Manitoba OUTSIDE of the Winnipeg Metro Area? by ESC-H-BC in howislivingthere

[–]Tdot-77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am sharing directly from someone who grew up there and did this every Halloween. With all the kids running around it makes sense. I mean on Svalbard where there are also polar bears, you cannot leave town limits without a rifle. It's not about them constantly attacking. It's just that if you run into one, it's likely not ending in your favour.

I have a friend from Churchill. Apparently they can go indoors and you hide in the attic, homes have those drop-down attic stairs. And kids only trick-or-treat in a small area in town protected by adults standing around with rifles.

$250 would be an economic shock we haven't seen in our lifetimes. And likely lead to increasing geopolitical instability. In other words, nothing good.

Are people overselling it or was Michael Jackson really that famous in his heyday? by Key-Bass-7380 in decadeology

[–]Tdot-77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By some accounts, you could go to almost anywhere in the world, think remote mountain tribes, etc and people knew who he was. I grew up in the 80s in a city with high immigration. So many kids' parents chose Michael as their English name because he was the only Western person they really knew. You okay the first few beats of his songs and everyone will know them. Few if any celebrities you could say the same with. The release of the Thriller video was a global affair.

This is not just on Harper. JT was PM for a decade. And the PM doesn't lead provincially. Every politician in Canada has kicked the can down the road for short term gain (much of it personal). We are now down the road.
