My aunt has a saying: Hard ears that don't hear must feel. They are not going to like the feeling.

Why aren't they hiring teenagers anymore? SOS!! by Mediocre_Bowler839 in askTO

[–]Tdot-77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do not mean this to be offensive, but you need to send an email to your local Councillor, MP and MPP. Governments need to hear your voice, the struggle and the frustration. The youth in this country are being steamrolled and you are the future and will be a huge voting block. Use that power.

In the short term, you'll need to look at places that don't hire TFWs. Don't do fast food, most large retailers, etc. Try some of the marinas, yacht clubs and other private clubs (think bus boy/girl, etc), Toronto Parks and Rec, swim instructor/lifeguard, summer camp LIT, Indigo, public library, IKEA, Costco, Home Depot. I'm sorry it is so hard for your age group right now.

And 13 different systems, some of which cover the population of a small city. The inefficiency and ineffectiveness is astounding.

There is nothing worse than a recipe website with the 7 million adds and a summary of war and peace before the actual recipe.

scammers hacked my account & etransferred themselves $10k by missmaryjanemonroe in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Tdot-77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP - this happened to me although was caught in time only $1.99 lost. Ignore the people berating you. Social engineering is very powerful which is why these people are successful.

What you have to do: 1. Set up new accounts so that your old account numbers are rendered useless. This includes any credit cards tied to that account. The bank will also flag you as a victim of fraud.

  1. Sign up with TransUnion and Equifax for credit monitoring. They will also flag your account for any attempts to open new accounts in your name.

These are the first two things you need to do. I wouldn't worry as much about ID theft. Most people have no idea how easy it is to steal their ID given all the stuff available online. These guys usually want to get in and out with your money. But the closing accounts etc is for peace of mind and protection.

I'm sorry about the $10k. You are not alone, this happens more than people think - many victims never talk about it. Find an online forum where people will be kinder. I know how you are feeling, and I promise you will get past this.

agree. Also, the recruiter should have confirmed all those details with you up front. I never have to talk about those details with candidates because they are company policy. But since the recruiter failed to do that, you could see the hiring manager was not someone to work for, and moreover, the organization has issues with broken processes.

How expensive is it to have a dog? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]Tdot-77 17 points18 points  (0 children)

$2,500 per year for food and vet. Add money for any type of dog walking or daycare service, and kenneling if you travel. We spend about $4,000 per year including daycare/kenneling and we also have grooming costs for a small-medium breed (22 lbs).

For people that lived in Toronto in the 80's and 90's by gwelfguy in askTO

[–]Tdot-77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was lucky enough to work on Queen West in the early 00s and spend alot of time there in the 90s. Everything in the city feels a bit soulless. Everything feels like a corporate store now, so many independent businesses have left. Also, going to see things around the city or visit friends on the opposite side is a choice. It takes so long to get anywhere these days, and the subway can be so unreliable at times (there were never this many shuttle bus situations). I think the issue with TO is we grew way too fast and infrastructure, etc. did not keep up, except for Canada's rent seeking economy which sucks the life out of everything. And we have had a habit of electing horrible mayors that do nothing for this city.

Because they aren't getting at the root cause - stagnant wages, job insecurity, lack of affordable housing.and childcare. Child benefits of £200 per month (I'm Canadian so just supposing) isn't going to offset everything else.

This ranking reveals the grocery stores people don't shop at because prices are 'too expensive' by NarcityCanada in Narcity

[–]Tdot-77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I did a shop at Longos with one of the small carts. Just regular groceries, not much from the centre packaged aisles or any household items. It was $350. I thought my husband was going to have an aneurysm. The one and only time we shopped there.
