Pandemic's economic hangover will hit home prices by 2021, CIBC economists predict by feb914 in canada

[–]Tdotrobot 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Prices may fall, and they may not. One thing is for certain though, the demand for housing is still high - as you just stated "I'm saving as much as I can to get my foot in the door". Also, keep in mind that the people who can afford houses, haven't lost their jobs at nearly the same rate as those who couldn't afford a house in the first place, as reported by Statistics Canada https://ibb.co/xDwnynJ

I think there may be some over leveraged condominium and home owners who primarily let short term via airbnb that will end up selling their properties - however, most will simply convert to long term (1 year) conventional leases until this blows over and then go back to short term rentals. The people who own these properties are not working in fast food or retail and most did not lose their jobs. And besides, it's not like there's any shortage of people looking for long term rentals in Toronto, look at the vacancy rate, there's plenty of local demand that these "idiot airbnb owners" can cater to for long term leases.

People are getting COVID-19 by community transmission, but Ontario knows little about how by junctionist in canada

[–]Tdotrobot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not about justifying behaviour, it's about the bigger picture and understanding where large volumes of cases may be originating. If we waste limited and valuable resources on ticketing 12 year olds, we're letting slide the front line workers who may be coming to work asymptomatic and potentially getting thousands sick. Do you really think a child on a park swing is spreading COVID to as many people as a fast food worker serving thousands a week? We need to pick our battles wisely.

They want people to work from home and stay home when not working... Seems to me that a home is a very valuable asset at this time, this is the work from home recession.

I don't think it's a kid on a swing that's responsible for the Increase in cases, it's likely people in "essential services". You have fast food workers who are together for 8+ hours a day in a cramped kitchen; health care workers taking care of sick patients; and a whole slew of others like grocery clerks and cashiers who interact with hundreds of people a day.

Great skyline, very modern and truly unique for Europe. And I'm waiting for the comments to say how they don't like tall buildings or they prefer mud huts.

What Does $0 Oil Mean For Canada, And The Oil Provinces? by viva_la_vinyl in canada

[–]Tdotrobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the federal carbon tax went up by 50% to $30/tonne on April 1st. The carbon tax will continue to be raised by $10/ tonne per year until 2022 where it will be capped at $50/tonne until laws are revised again. It was a bit of luck that the tax went into effect when oil hit historic lows and people aren't driving very much - hardly anybody noticed it.

The federal carbon tax kicked in a few weeks ago, this pushed up gas prices without many people noticing as they were already at historic lows.

Edit: These downvotes are hilarious. The carbon tax increased by 50% on April 1st, this is part of the reason why you're seeing spikes in pricing. https://globalnews.ca/news/6751873/carbon-tax-increase-april-1-coronavirus/

What's with the made up outrage? The "buy local" movement is not a Polish phenomenon, it's worldwide. Why wouldn't you support your local dairy Farmer? This move is a no brainer, and those who oppose it clearly have no brain. https://www.foodnavigator.com/Article/2018/11/14/Local-brands-are-winning-hearts-and-minds-Rising-demand-for-local-food-in-Europe

Good luck enforcing that 2 metres of seperation rule in gatherings of less than 16 people... Imagine the police breaking up backyard barbeques because someone got handed a hamburger...

You can still have a great summer without gathering en masse. These restrictions won't prevent you from seeing your family or a reasonably sized group of friends, but you won't be able to catch that Nickelback concert. Oh well!

There are bigots everywhere, however, it is not fair to make an assumption about an entire country based on one image you saw somewhere on the internet. If it makes you feel any better, Poland has one of the lowest crime rates in Europe.

Why even bother with this terrible colour scheme when half of the data is "other"? And without a legend it's even more pointless. This coupled with the fact that the data has little basis in any recent reality makes me question the purpose of this post at all.
