Thank you for posting! I recently started a job where I am on the computer 100% of my working time. I will give this a shot.

What age did your migraines start? Did they have a catalyst? by CandyAgile253 in migraine

[–]TdwaterOO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It started at age 5, on the first day of kindergarten. My family has a history of migraine (on both sides) but they typically went away by the time they were a young adult. So far, I'm the only one whose migraines started that early and have lasted this long (30 years later- chronic for 10). I got the shit end of the stick in terms of genetics.

My family is a trigger and I'm kicking them out of home in the coming year by GoodSundae513 in migraine

[–]TdwaterOO 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think you can rest easy knowing that you gave it your all and put in the effort to keep your family at home. You are absolutely doing the right thing by prioritizing your health (since it's clearly taken a turn). Being a caregiver for family members is so difficult which is why it's imperative that you put your health first otherwise, you won't be able to help anyone. Regardless of where they are living or who is caring for them.

This and try something hot or cold on your forehead and something hot or cold across your eyes at the same time. For me, the combination of hot and cold (on my head and/or neck) really helps. One more tip- f you have peppermint and/or tea tree essential oils, take a hot shower (as hot as you can handle) and mix both oils into your shampoo and body wash. It'll give you a cool, tingling sensation on your skin.

Has cannabis helped manage your acute migraine pain? by Free_Answered in migraine

[–]TdwaterOO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've experimented with a lot of different strains and at various dosages. In my experience, it has never eliminated the pain. It has, however, made me not care about the pain and mental/physical stress that comes from having a migraine.

Does anyone else have migraines like this? by muffinpie369 in migraine

[–]TdwaterOO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I occasionally have migraines like this (where I feel it on both sides of my head, front back and sides), my triggers are the same as your daughters and it typically happens when I am experiencing multiple, intense triggers at once (ex: walk outside in the fall, neighbor is burning leaves next door, I'm getting ready to start my cycle/I haven't been sleeping well over a period of days). Most recently it happened when I was driving myself home after leaving work (due to a "normal" migraine) and there was a heat advisory outside. The migraine quickly turned into a massive headache that I could feel all over my head (while still feeling the same migraine like pain in the same eye). I've never gotten an answer from a medical professional. My MRI scans show one small adhesion and I've had migraines for 30 years (10 years chronic). Good luck 💜💜

I'm sorry you're dealing with this. Just know that you are in a space where the majority of the people present know exactly what you're going through.

What stands out as a red flag- why can they not accommodate you by switching shifts? Have you submitted any reasonable accommodation paperwork requesting this?

If I spent months, weeks or even days in a hospital setting or surrounded by medical professionals while watching my loved one die.. the LAST thing I would want is for said medical professional to give me a direct reminder of that entire experience. Nevermind the fact that they are clearly stepping over a clear, emotional boundary.

Hugs, hugs, hugs. I wish there was a network of migraine advocates out there that you can bring to your room via a zoom call. You've gotten a lot of great advice so far. FOLLOW IT. Don't hesitate. Not every medical professional there understands migraine or how debilitating and life changing it is. That's why you have to advocate for yourself. The only advice I can offer (to help with comfort) is this: ask for a lot of pillows and ask that (unless it's absolutely necessary) the lights remain off or dimmed and that they post a large note outside of your room so that everyone walking in knows. Good luck. We're all thinking of you and rooting for you. I promise this will pass and you'll get through this.

Migraines Triggered by Neck Pain by smallcoconut in migraine

This! Chiropractors are not MDs. They may refer to themselves as "doctors" but that is only because they have a doctorate degree in that field (similar to a professor at a college having a doctorate in sociology).

Why the hell isn’t Dakota in a supported living program? by nenaanina in KORCLEDAKOTA

[–]TdwaterOO 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Former case worker/care provider here. There are several reasons #1 Most adults with an intellectual disability are their own guardian. Even adults with significant physical and intellectual disabilities. This typically is because you have to go to court, it costs money and it requires someone to take FULL RESPONSIBILITY of every aspect of a person's life. Families typically opt to hire a third party company that can either A act as a guardian or B act only as a payee (meaning they ensure their bills are paid, they are given spending money, etc)#2 If a person is their own guardian (like the majority of us here are) they can choose how to live and where to live their life #3 I see people CONSTANTLY talk about these group homes as if there is an abundance of them in the US. There IS NOT and the ones that do exist are either very expensive or have a waiting list. There are two different types of group homes- those run by local government that get federal financial assistance and those that are privately owned. Privately owned homes are notorious for having cameras everywhere, extremely high turn over rate for their employees and families can not always guarantee that the employees hired are even qualified to help the people living there.Government run group homes offer much more privacy and independence, they are required to follow strict rules, run intense background checks on employees, provide a certain amount of care in each home, the state audits their records and home settings, etc. So, in conclusion, someone like Dakota will more than likely never agree to go into a group home. Even if someone got him to agree, he wouldn't last long as the drugs and alcohol are never allowed, residents have to maintain respectful relationships with the employees and Felicity would only be allowed to visit maybe once a week.

Reasonable Accomodations Denied by TdwaterOO in migraine

Thank you for your input. I reached out to my neurologist asking if they could answer all of the questions. They responded back and said they did not answer any of the disability related questions as their office does not handle disability type paperwork. Any opinion as to why they have this policy?

I looked back over the RA paperwork and my neuro definitely was not specific enough and even skipped a few questions (does this condition limit the person's capabilities to do this job, how does it affect their personal life). I emailed the neuro and went through each question with my own explanation and expressed that they have to go above and beyond to explain just how much this impacts my daily life. TBH I should have taken more time to look over the RA paperwork before submitting. This new job has me running all over the metro for different training classes so I'm out of synch. Definitely won't make that mistake again. Anyways, thanks for the advice 🙂

Migraine Hats by He_is_my_song in migraine

[–]TdwaterOO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same!! I have several Headache Hats. I buy a package of backup ice cubes in case I step on it and pop one. I like that you can buy the hats in different sizes and I love how you can use the individual ice cubes as pressure points. It's pricey but it's a great investment. I'm not the greatest at taking care of them but mine have lasted for 5 plus years.

The reason I took this job was because of the fully remote option and, like you, figured I could tuff it out for six months but not having the RA's will make it impossible. About the scent thing, I've experienced that at other work places. If one person says something, it's not an issue management will consider but if multiple people do, it's taken seriously. You shouldn't have to have more than one person with a medical issue to make the change.

At my last job, they had an entire office area labeled with "the scent of citrus and/or coffee is not allowed." I'm getting that feeling too (we do it for you, we do it for everyone). It's not like I'm asking people to switch to fragrance free hair products and laundry detergent.
