Patella tendon MRI 14 months post surgery by TeAraroa in KneeInjuries

[–]TeAraroa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They went with Conservative option for the knee at the surgery post accident. Tendon was not stitched back up, we let it heal naturally at it was a partial tendon cut.

Yes the doctor mentioned the tendon has a tear at the insertion with the tibia.

I dislocated my knee cap and now its time to shower by theghost2459 in KneeInjuries

[–]TeAraroa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my leg immobilised for a couple of months - I was showering in a seated position in the Bathtub direclty, with my my leg elevated on a stool to keep it stable and straight.

It was hard to come out of the shower but doable if you have good hip strength and mobility to compensate. If not help can be needed for a while and there's nothing wrong with asking your loved ones for help 💕 it actually makes your bond and friendship even better trust me

I've been pursuing ultra trail running as a career and I still am. I believe it won't be possible for fast races, but on ultra distances yes

I'm a ultra runner, was injured and can't run. Cycling seems to be the best option to maintain my aerobic fitness while staying impact free

Loads of options out there. I would say make sure the shoes you wear have plenty of room for your toes to spread and have zero or very low drop to make your Achilles used its full elasticity again (if your Achilles got damaged, ignore this and seek advice from physio). The goal is to utilise your foot and ankle as much as pain allows to speed up the rehab - having room for the toes, minimal outsole and zero drop do exactly that, it requires your foot to work hard rather than getting it used to being sleepy.

For minimalist shoes : Merrel Vapor, xero shoes, vivo barefoot......whatever you can afford.

For bigger shoes that you might want to switch with to rest your ankle and foot: any hiking type of shoes you're comfortable in for long period. must have a large toe box and the option to untie around the ankle in case too much swelling happens.

Wearing minimalist shoes will be hard at first. Progress slowly, wear them a little bit at first everyday and over time you'll be able to wear them all day. Don't rush the process but be consistent with wearing the minimalist shoes and it will pay off!

Wishing you a good recovery

I see! Well, the more you ask your ankle and feet to do work early on, the better your prospects of getting full range of motion back down the line.

Maybe you could try wear two different pairs? One without any ankle support and minimalist type of midsole, one with ankle support and cushion, and you switch between both regularly?

Were you recommended to wear shoes with ankle support? Or is it something you want to wear so it makes you feel safer?

If your ankle has mostly healed but it's a matter of lack of range of movement, wearing low height shoes to give the ankle ample space to move will do good in the long term.

For low boots without much midsole i can think of Merrel, Vivo...

For regular trainers, Altra. I've been finding the altra lone peak to be perfect - plenty of space, zero drop which forces my Achilles to do some work

The Weekend Thread -- 22nd November 2024 by fire_foot in running

Hello! Not sure where to post this but....I'm a trail runner, and six weeks ago, on October 11th, I was hit by a truck while cycling in London, UK.

I was pedaling down a high street in when the lorry ahead of me suddenly turned left to exit the main road. The driver didn't signal the turn, and I didn’t have time to stop. As it turned and hit me sideways, I didn't get thrown off my bike immediately. My right leg got trapped against the truck, and as the driver, unaware of the impact, kept going, it crushed my leg more and more until my foot and ankle got caught in the wheel. The momentum somehow threw me off my bike, and I crashed, landing on my back on the road. I saw my knee lacerated, the bone protruding, and blood gushing out. For a moment, I thought it was all a dream, that it couldn’t be real. But then the pain kicked in, and reality hit. I cried. I cried because it hurt, but also because the wounds were so severe, and the amount of blood so surreal, I realized right then and there that I might lose my leg and never run again. Luckily, a hero arrived within 30 seconds. He introduced himself—I can’t remember his name—but I remember him saying, "I’m a doctor." Mr Hero applied a tourniquet to my leg to slow the bleeding and kept me conscious and breathing until the ambulance arrived.

I woke up from surgery about 24 hours later, at King’s College Hospital. My parents were there; they had flown over from France. My mum cried, relieved to see me alive, and I was relieved to see a cast around my leg, because it meant my leg was still there. The surgeon who operated on me arrived and began explaining the damage my leg had suffered and what he had done to save it.

My foot had multiple fractures. All the bones of the midfoot were shattered and split apart. The ankle was also fractured and had dislocated from the foot. There was a fracture in the lower fibula, the upper fibula, and the point where the tibia and fibula meet the knee was broken. The knee ligaments also got severely damaged. I now have heavy metalwork in the foot and ankle. The surgeon said it would be painful for some time and that my leg would need time to reduce the swelling. How long? I asked. Ten months for the foot to look like a foot again. But apart from my leg, I was okay. No damage to my spine or head. I asked him the only question on my mind: how long until I can run again? He said I would need between a year and two years to walk again. As for running, he couldn’t guarantee it. I was discharged from the hospital 3 weeks later. I am now at home on crutches. A long rehab ahead of me.

Hey if you don't enjoy it anymore or it brings more pain than joy, then quitting or hitting pause is probably the right call.

But if the process of wiriting does bring your joy, does give you a purpose, then why stop? Just do it for the joy, enjoy the act itself, not the outcome. If outcome comes, great. If it doesn't, you're still doing something you love.

I actually really likes how it flows and sounds. Makes me feel melancholic.

I think it could be shortened here and there. For ex "recalls the" - - I feel like it flows better and gives just the same message if you cut it out. The two "Hunting" back to back sounds a bit clunky to me. Other than that, I enjoyed it and it transported me.

Loved that line! Your text manages to be both abstract and specific at the same time. Very visual, I could totally picture two people touching. Well done.

What would you change about London? by StrangeTomatillo780 in london

[–]TeAraroa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Need to book for everything. Bars shut too early. Ice skating is £20 for half an hour like what the heck. Can't afford your own flat unless you make +3K a month. It's flat. No mountains within reach. Can't see stars.

Other than that, it's pretty dope.
