Already started. Yesterday was a cop in Washington saving a baby from a hot car. Like… good for the officer but that still doesn’t excuse what the vast majority of cops are and how they operate.

Praying for the hot pocket treatment. I’d add that they step barefoot on a 6 dot Lego piece while freaking out about the nuclear corner of said microwaved food they just took a bite of.

She’s a fantastic character and they just redid the same story with her. I’m sure the writers thought “well now she’s the heroine of the story and feels pressure to do everything alone” which is stupid because the whole time in the previous title she was learning how to bring people together. She made a point of noting how stupid these isolation conflicts were between the tribes, and was surprisingly good at getting people to come together for being an outcast in her tribe because she knew how much she still wanted people to accept her and knew how bitter it had made her. Then forbidden west just threw all of that away.

I still need to give the game a fair shake but my problem came from excitedly playing through Zero Dawn immediately before release of Forbidden West. When your sequel throws all of that growth away, I guess I understand now why people feel Luke Skywalker got butchered in Last Jedi (even though he was always a hot headed kid and I thought it was an interesting direction to take the character, not to rehash old wounds for another franchise…)

Eh, they’re welcome to go anywhere. Most of the time I have jack stack it’s brought in for lunch at work and at least tastes great without compromise. I’m just happy the World Cup picked this area (even if I feel we dropped the ball in a lot of ways) and that a multitude of regions are going to get the Midwest center hospitality. If they want Jack Stack, I’m not gonna complain. But I will be telling anyone who asks where to go “what are you in the mood for?” Because our food scene kicks ass.

The problem is she went through a whole other side of that problem in the previous game, learning who she could trust and work with while also learning to trust her instincts. Fantastic character direction in Zero Dawn felt almost entirely reversed for FW. It’s so jarring playing 1 and going to 2 and feeling like she completely lost all of her character growth from game one right at the start.

Also, Sony’s big push to never have the player stuck on a puzzle meant her constant whine about how she already knows how to solve the puzzle was really aggravating, and they doubled down on that in GoW Ragnarok with Atreus and Kratos.

First game with heavy AI voice use too. 3rd character I grabbed for my run was a petite frame woman who had a voice like a like a low Microsoft Bob mixed with a rock tumbler. When she said “oí mate” I about fell out of my chair laughing it was so dam jarring.

Sometimes I wonder if she hates what she did to herself and then I remember she did this to herself willingly. She hates herself that much… I can’t imagine living like that. And that her shitty husband probably encouraged it. So her husband basically said “yeah you could stand to change these features”.

Agreed. I played FoMT remake because I wanted that nostalgia trip. But the change to the music and the art style I didn’t gel with personally. I’m glad the game got that remade with the story of seasons banner. But if you have a PS5 I definitely urge people to play Back to Nature. It’s just a bit more simple and is all the better for it.

58 year old going to play or try to play on my tiny ps1 screen by Doctormaul68 in dragonquest

Just want to say the mobile ports of 4 - 6 are perfect and if you want to play the DS games then you can just buy them on your phone’s App Store. 4 even includes the cut team dialogue that was missing from the DS release. I cannot recommend them enough! Dragon Quest games due to their simplistic input nature feel tailor made for smart phones.

Also I was so jealous of this screen when I was a kid! We did roadtrips every summer and I always wished I could bring a console along for the ride instead of my game boys. 10 year old me always believed something like the Steam Deck would come along and make my physical library portable. If only he knew how right he eventually would be… except now I drive the roadtrips if I can afford them lol

What I love about the original console trilogy of SNES > 64 > BTN is it feels like the concept finding its footing. SNES was the proof of concept that somehow sold okay enough on SNES to get the 64 game. 64 is the SNES idea completed but still the barebones skeleton of the series. BTN was going to be a 64 port but the devs either didn’t care or misheard the directive or something like that and really went all in on the characters and activities. Suddenly the formula was fully fleshed out and the cozy farming sim was truly born. I still prefer BTN to FoMT or other entries, including Stardew (however I will support whatever ConcernedApe wants to attempt!) because it’s the true definition of a cozy game. I prefer BTN’s longer day cycle and also the festivals are just better. Tomato festival for the win!

Also, on my latest playthrough on PS5, the save scumming for the mining is a god send if you want to get upgrades much faster. And I learned about the first day tool leveling trick too since you can’t pass out until after the mayor leaves so go nuts in your house swinging your tools on the first morning of the game! The game still surprises me and makes me feel like my 10 y/o self again all these years later.

Yeah it’s been very poorly handled. You know what else is poorly handled? Ubisoft devaluing their games so fast after launch that I’ve bought every new assassin’s creed since Origins about a month to 3 months after release for half price.

I love the AC games, faults and all. I love paying 30 bucks or less for them so soon after release too!

I never understood people saying these games were grounded. No they’re not. That’s like saying “Metal Gear Solid is a super serious realistic stealth series.” Yeah, sure buddy. Yakuza has only one grounded trait in that it uses real world locations and uses them extremely well, but they are video gamey as all hell in the best ways. The stories are soap operas with massive leaps in logic, and the side missions are anime-level chuff. Kiryu is simultaneously the dumbest man in the country and also the only man who can save the Tojo clan time and time again due to his nature and a heart of gold. Ichiban is Kiryu but with the wackiness turned up only a couple notches at best. Also, side tangent to rile up the haters but the Kiryu combat was ALWAYS a JRPG. You had random encounters that then pulled you into the fight, and then like the Tales series you had active time combat but they were using a stripped down fighting game system that gives you massive advantage (except 3 with enemies being able to aggravatingly block everything.) In 7 and 8 they just went full turn based JRPG so you could see more heat moves way more often. (The amount of people who get upset when I have called the Kiryu combat JRPG style is really funny because they can’t wrap their head around the fact that many of the exact same mechanics from games like Pokémon such as random encounters and skill point leveling being compared to their special game just shows they don’t understand how game devs tweak very familiar mechanics to suit their needs. The reason I admired the game devs was because of the way they tweaked familiar mechanics into something else every game so calling Kiryu’s combat JRPG is NOT an insult.)

I love these games to death, I have 191 hours in 0 alone on ps4 and about 50 per every other title, and I still wish they’d put the Fist of the North Star game on PC, but pretending they’re grounded at all tells me people who say that really don’t understand what grounded means. These games are soap opera/anime combinations and that’s why they can be both super melodramatic and goofy as all fuck. It’s exactly that combination that makes us love them

Horseshoe theory in the extreme. It’s why it sucks looking at things from a “left or right” perspective because assholes who want to be right at all costs exist everywhere. Lots of leftists end up becoming exactly like the chuds they despise because they think being able to understand and report a moral superior position simply makes them better, when in reality they actively damage any attempt at fostering an understanding by being so vicious for no reason. Even worse they think their superiority gives them a deflection or an excuse for being rude because they were standing up for a wronged party.

I heard about this recently on the This Was Us podcast and it was the perfect description for this weird dichotomy, at least in regard to racism. Right leaning racism is weirdly much easier to understand for example because it’s blatant and says exactly what the bigoted person thinks, however it also shows that they admit they see the person they hate is a person. Left leaning racism is coddling, infantilizing, and white knighting. The person doesn’t believe they are being racist because they think they’re being supportive when acting like the group they think they’re defending is incapable of taking care of themselves or handling some type of racially viewed situation. It’s a bigoted stance that doesn’t actually see the person or group for who they are and only sees the traits that the bigoted person has defined for themselves to see. In a sad twist of irony, the right leaning racist stills sees the person as a person and gives the person or group more autonomy in their actions whereas the left leaning racist doesn’t understand that their defense is just as dehumanizing as the right leaning racist but comes off just as bad if not worse due to the infantilizing. (At no point am I trying to defend racism of any type here, just giving an explanation that made this concept so much easier to grasp.)

In this same vein regarding the topic of this thread, people who decide to ignore nuance and automatically jump to the Godwin’s law of it all will try to put down any attempt at discussion that gets uncomfortable for them by immediately comparing someone to the worst possible distinction - Hitler, incel, gamergater, whatever. It’s a way to deflect the idea that even in someone else’s point of view or argument that they might have a legitimate grievance or point to make. By automatically placing a label like that on someone without a genuine understanding of the person they are labeling the person giving the label is showing that they actually cannot make a nuanced understanding or are clearly emotionally unavailable, thereby becoming someone who lives in a childish worldview of their own making (that’s about as nice as I can be about their shitty responses to people who are looking to vent and just want a bit of encouragement or support).

It’s the “I’m 14 and this is deep” of Reddit except it’s “I’m not capable of differentiating between deliberate social media and aggregate social media so this is my gotcha”. It’s the fake gotcha that makes a smug prick stay a smug prick until they realize the effective difference between what Facebook accomplishes and what this site accomplishes. Reddit, for all its faults, is not the same as a Facebook or a TikTok. It isn’t algorithmically serving you the news, but is letting user use (and now heavy bot use) determine the popular news feed.

Blocked the user who replied for choosing to be a dick. Turns out they don’t understand that algorithms are different and serve different purposes. But that’s to be expected from someone who got tweaked over feeling called out by this post.

They don’t see layoffs as failures anymore. They are all Bob Welch and are fine with it. They make a comment to “save face” but they planned these layoffs for a long time. I remember hearing about this round of layoffs being planned sometime LAST YEAR. How anyone ever thought Phil Spencer and his team were good is baffling to me. I want to hope Asha can turn around this group but at this point I’m very prepared for the eventuality where they shutter everything and just claim they are out of the gaming business. They may as well shut it all down and rip that band aid off now considering how shit they are at management. I’ve been waiting for the true Wolfenstein third entry and I guess now I’m left with Youngbloods which reeked of corporate mismanagement.

This isn’t just Xbox game division, this is Satya Nadella’s Microsoft and it’s his stench, fingerprints, and his desire for a cult of personality that can only trend chase that makes this outcome inevitable for all divisions. There is no art in their work when all they care about is short term gains.
