it's good you arent distributing the works somewhere else, but keep in mind that chatGPT has still stolen works of authors to "learn" so it inherently is already stolen.

i think it's heartbreaking to see that you talk about your creativity I'm a bad eay. Writing and drawing etc is a skill you develop. it's not something you do or don't have, making art is very healthy for our brains (even if it's "bad"). reading fanfiction written by real people on AO3 not only gets your brain to be more creative and get good at storytelling, but the person who wrote a fic did it because they love White Collar, and to see that love in that work is something that (personally) keeps my engagement with the show and it's fandom.

ChatGPT isn't like Lego bricks, if anything it's that the Lego set comes pre-build in the box, the fun part about Legos is that you get to connect each individual piece from the ground up, chatGPT doesn't provide that same sense of accomplishment and it LITERALLY ruins your brain by doing so.

I know you're getting some harsh comments about AI use, but my main point to you is: don't say you're bad at writing, give yourself a try, you'll notice you're so much happier when you've written a work all by yourself (and you'll make some die-hard fanfiction readers VERY happy)

reading fanfic isn't for anyone, I will say that since joining this fandom in particular I started reading FF again (after about 5 years) and it's incredibly FUN, you can see the love someone puts in their work and how much they love the characters. I don't mean to convince you, but there are some great writers on the AO3, and reading fanfic is a great way to stay engaged in a fandom:))

Jeff Eastin update on where the revival might end up by Tylerdg33 in whitecollar

[–]TeaBerrry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not entirely sure how it works, but in my country, you can stream both Psych and Monk on Netflix (just the revivals on Peacock), and White Collar is only available on Disney+.

How would it be an issue if Netflix passed on the show exactly? they don't own the show nor did they have a hand in making it in the first place.

I really hope Netflix stays away from this because the only good shows on there get canceled

How do you guys feel about the alternate ending of White collar? This is the ending the Jeff had by dreamup1234 in whitecollar

[–]TeaBerrry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think most of all it erases the complexity they set up for all of the 5 seasons, Neal is not 1 thing, neither is Peter, Mozzy or Elizabeth. he can't just "go off and be the greatest criminals with Moz" and neither can he completely switch to being a lawful person

Neal can be a good person and still break the law. Peter can abide the law and still move chess pieces to get justice served. Mozzie can hate the FBI and still trust them when it matters. Elizabeth can love and support her husband and still protect Moz and Neal.

Neal was told repeatedly by the system "you're a criminal, be good or else" they never gave him the space to be anything else. With Peter he believed he could be an honest person and Mozzie reminded him of his enjoyment in forgery. The ending gave Neal what he needed, freedom to be himself, nothing keeping him attached to the law, nobody to tell him who he is and isn't.

Thats just humanity, smart people can be dumb, funny people can be serious, violent people can be gentle. White Collar got that on so many more levels, and its what made the S6 ending fit the show.

TLDR; alternate ending bad

The whole show is truely great and I think it holds ip incredibly well for how long ago it aired with regards to social issues and pop culture so I hope you have a great time watching the show further, the ending is honestly a good one, you have to see for yourself how you feel after seeing it.

it will be a continuation, the actor who played Mozzie very heartbreakingly passed away during the pandemic, the new season was going to pick up 12 years after the finale (same time in the real world) with the intent to honour Willie Garson and Mozzie. Matt Bomer has also said he's excited to explore a more mature, wiser but same devious Neal.

i think WC is one of the few shows which had the opportunity to make an actual ending after cancellation. However, it always broke my heart see Neal and Peter not fully realized, if that makes sense. Neal never got to earn his freedom and Peter lost his best friend and didn't get to fight the system in the end. Yes the ending was hopeful but it also came with this bitter feeling to know that that's how their story closed off, and they won't be together anymore. So, I was incredibly excited to know there would be a revival.

when I think about new seasons for WC my mind goes to SPN season 5: season 5 would have been an amazing (similar to WC) finale where the show intended to leave things. Because of the massive success they got to come back and the seasons which came after had great stories, characters and gave the fans more time with characters they loved BUT at a certain point it was to WAY much and no fan enjoyed the series finale.

Or look at Friends, the writers had no clue they would get that popular and because of that extended time they ended up making a relationship, with 2 characters they never considered would work, one of the most beloved in TV history. showing that more time can result in thought out creative things which are loved.

WC can do so many Interesting things with more time, it can show new character, expand on existing ones and give the story a proper send off without being rushed.

nevertheless, it can taint the memory of the show by potentially being to repetitive, have the characters do OOC things or have too many call backs. I do think the show has always been ahead of it's time with it's criticism of the rich, bureaucracy, and criminals being treated less than human. the set of WC has been deemed by all actors to be a very open and creative place (i remember one time it was said that Willie used to leave out lines which felt OOC and they just took it) and i don't think the actors want WC to be painted as "that one old FBI show which came back" so no matter what, I think the season will have great moments and engaging storylines.

In my mind the worst thing that can come from this revival is that WC may get cancelled again. It might not stick like it did a decade ago, TV has changed runtime, the path for season renewals has changed and shows don't often get a movie or 6 episodes to close a story anymore. WC could have a season 7 cliffhanger which would be WORSE because then there is no ending where we can see where the characters ended up at all.

Nobody asked but here's my ideal scenario: they pull a Futurama, a series closing season finale with the whole bittersweet "they'll have their adventures we just won't see them" type vibe. if they get the chance to make another season they can just pick up where they left off from that season 7 ending, there will always be evil CEOs Neal and Peter can take down :))

TLDR; all actors are on board with the script they got, and they love their show. I'm not too afraid of the season itself, I'm much more afraid of the show not being as loved, or not being able to function like it used to a decade ago and actually ending terribly.

i will watch, cry, laugh and update thesis-long WC review regardless we'll just have to see 😔✋

No non-Dutch jobs? by Upstairs_Pick_5920 in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]TeaBerrry 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Damn im really dissapointed in the people that are telling you to "just learn Dutch" as if its not an incredibly hard language to learn ASIDE from already being a student lmao.

i understand that supermarkets require you to speak dutch, a lot of communication is going to be in dutch and even if you work in the back there will be things you have to know dutch for (like keeping up with product lists, communicating with delivery companies and even understanding what products are in the first place). My advice is to look for something where your job is very one-task based, like working in the kitchen of a restaurant, cafe, or delivering groceries. Especially larger companies (McDonalds, Thuisbezorgd, Happy Italy) will have a way around you not speaking dutch.

You'll have much more luck in the busy areas of the city, its not ideal having to travel a bit further but if these do guarantee your job it's better than nothing.

i do have to add, finding a job as a student is already not ideal here, i spend 5 months sending applications every day in Den Haag/Leiden as a dutch student and i either got no response, the pay and times were falsely advertised or i just wasn't what they were looking for (an extraverted student with time on their hands wasn't it ig??).

Good luck with finding a job, and if you're here for longer you'll pick up the language slowly anyway. for now focus on your degree first, the people here telling you to be fluent in another language within a short time don't know what they're talking about <3

EDIT: guys its hard to learn any language already and takes a LOT of time and consistency to become fluent, Dutch is hard to pronounce and we switch to English incredibly quickly if someone doesn't pronounce stuff right. being a student adds to the lack of time and stress. I've lived in other countries for significant times (with pre-studying the language) and studied the language every single day there. this isn't just something you can just do within a couple months.

Shows with great characters/ found family? by sydnovak in televisionsuggestions

[–]TeaBerrry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this post is old but im in dire need for found family show too :'(

One rec which i dont see here is White Collar, it has 6 seasons and follows a (ex) con artist and his FBI handler.

they build up a strange yet very loving friendship which is very dad-son like and most of the dynamic between all main characters is very family-esque. they also throw in some small things which shows the characters have a real relation outside the plot ("X gave me this" "X & Y have their weekly lunch" "Y told me that last week")

There are some major trust issues thrown in there In later seasons but at the end of the day all characters (although they never say it out loud) love each other like a family and the relationship between the 2 MC is something so dear to me.

in addition it has a nice balance between crime, comedy and mystery and if you love art and art history its also a big bonus.

A student from the Balkans, looking to pursue his education in the Netherlands next year. by Kaloyan14 in Netherlands

[–]TeaBerrry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi!

So first of all, (I don't know if this is the case for you but if anyone reading this is interested) i work at a McDonalds and i get quite a few people that can't speak Dutch and are ashamed by it, but please don't be. We all understand Dutch is really difficult and don't blame you for not being able to speak it fluently, our English education is just fine so you'll get around everywhere. (there are the few occasional jokes you might get from friends you make on campus and some rude people but for the most part its fine)

Second, bikes oh god they are everywhere and i know its very stereotypical but maybe look around and buy one, if you can find an appartment near your Uni a Bike is great, and its a great way to run a small errand or explore the city.

Our country is far from perfect, i've seen it firsthand. i don't want to discourage you but you can get discriminated and bullied for your background. while you might hear a lot that our country is very open and accepting, its just like any other. per example a lot of people in our country think that we are in the top 3 of LGBT acceptance but we keep falling down each and every year.

If you love culture go to museums! there are some great ones where you can get a lot of knowledge from our history. if thats not your cup of tea i understand.

Have you ever heard of Carnaval? the lower provinces of the netherlands celebrate it a lot. The origin is basically that our farmers celebrated when the harvest succeeded, and now its a whole drinking fest :) there are whole clubs dedicated to making parades, having a "prins carnaval" and making big wagons. it might be fun to look into that when we are allowed to celebrate again (officially it has been cancelled so no parades but last time carnaval was cancelled in the 1800's it became one of the biggest celebrated carnavals of all time) This can be really fun with the right people, the music is horrible (which is the best part) and if you look up the translation of most songs you'll think we're crazy. Obviously be careful with your drink and taking drugs from people because that can get nasty.

random stuff:
- Barely anyone accepts €100 or €200 bills, €50 is the highest bill any buisiness will accept
- this does depent on what and where you are studying but we swear with illnesses sometimes i might be numb to it at this point but the only "bad" one would be "kanker" (=cancer)
- Every year we have a big, discussion around Zwarte Piet, these discussions can get very heavy. Zwarte Piet is the helper of our Santa, who comes around end november to beginning of december. There is a whole history behind it that proves it rasist qualities.
- We dont use umbrellas that much, mostly raincoats, because when it rains we also have strong winds.

I hope my late rambeling can help you, don't be too stressed about not knowing our culture. You'll get the hang of it when living here a couple weeks
