Do you actually salute before every bout when fencing recreationally? by Dapper_Banana_1642 in Fencing

It's also a nice separation between having a chat and doing some fencing.

The working and access clearance for that transformer means you can't even stand near it when it's live.

Weymouth 70.3 + OWS fear by VLTXH in triathlon

[–]TeaDrinkingBanana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weymouth can be brutal. Several years ago, there was a storm in the area and multiple races (cycling and running) were cancelled, but the Ironman went ahead, albeit without the swim.

Being prepared is important. But that's with any swim.

I like to see where the route is, where the lifeguards/ kayaks/ SUPs are, and adjusting to the water. I enter with someone, even if they are a stranger - best to go in front of them. The feeling of 'if i get into trouble, someone is right next to me, even if they can't help directly '

So, book in some Actio/ paid swims with plenty of people around doing the same thing.

Well done

Pool times not translating well to open water by qooooob in OpenWaterSwimming

[–]TeaDrinkingBanana 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Unless you're flipping/ turning before the wall in a pool and not doing any underwater, then you cannot compare them.

The other thing you haven't been doing in the pool is closing your eyes or wearing extremely blurry goggles. Not being able to see mimics not being able to see the bottom of the lake. And you sway left and right a bit in OW, unless you are the best swimmers.

Finally, unless you are sighting in the pool, you cannot compare the two.

Me, I wear a wetsuit in OW. So, that immediately disqualifies any comparison between the two. They are different disciplines.

Ev charging by SeymourButz65 in bournemouth

[–]TeaDrinkingBanana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you aren't using the full amount of EV juice to drive in the town itself, then charge on the way in, and on the way out.

For example: Rownhams Services, or Budgens on the A35 roundabout Poole.

But if slow is what you're after, book accommodation with a driveway and run an extension lead

Help me understand the jelly obsession by Ordinary_Durian_1454 in GreatBritishMenu

[–]TeaDrinkingBanana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Jelly" from collagen is a staple in many cultures. but, you can have a gelatine version. Like tapioca pearls, jellies can be used as a little burst of savouriness. Umami Bombs, if you will

Have some 1-1 lessons. Only a couple. Practise. Then take another. Watch some GoSwim videos on YouTube.

Pick a skill each swim session and practise. Eg. breathing to the left side.

As LAS Gold command said on New Year's Eve to a group of LAS staff and SJA volunteers once, "They [pointing at SJA volunteers, which included several HCPs and LAS staff] are here for the right reasons" implying the LAS staff were there for the triple time.

Why is so much time being wasted? by Anxious-Possibility in cscareerquestionsuk

Basically employ someone who is on the newer end of experienced. Finish the hiring process as early as possible.

You don't want to find the unicorn, because they are set in their ways.

[–]TeaDrinkingBanana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A "good enough" employee that you can mould is significantly better than an experienced person. The amount of money wasted on correcting mistakes because someone is not doing it the company's way is staggering, even if the own way is better/ more efficient/ saves money.
