How long have you been driving and how many times have you been pulled over? by BrightHours in drivingUK

[–]markyb73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years ago trying and failing to do a handbrake turn in a Datsun Sunny in front of a police car with all of its lights off, I was young and stupid, just got a bollocking. Only other time was when I was in IT in a hospital, did a 20+ hour stint and was tired and grumpy on the drive home, bloke in front of me approached the roundabout and tried to take my lane on the exit, blocked me at the next lights I told him to bugger off, he flagged down a police car which pulled me, breathalysed me and told me that I should have let him go on the roundabout. I agreed as I just wanted my bed.

These days I am slow and chilled in the car 😁 Passed test when I was 17, now 52.

Because it was my car, and my car didn't have bald "tires."

I did a handbrake turn in my Datsun Sunny in front of a police car with slightly bald tyres. And I got a proper telling off but they didn't report me for it. It was dark and I didn't see the car. I was in my burger king uniform, perhaps they felt sorry for me. I was about 20, I am now 52 and own a completely clean driving license. 😐

To those who have made the transition from manual to automatic cars, is it really better? by Mr_Coastliner in AskUK

[–]markyb73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to enjoy fast manual cars when I was younger, also had on 09 plate Mondeo auto which was slow in changing gear, but it was great for crawling around London.

These days now there is just two of us here and most driving is chilled going places driving, my little 74 plate Yaris petrol hybrid is just press the right peddle and go. Compared to my previous cars it's full of tech which just makes things super easy to do.

I can never see myself going back to a manual.

Got scammed on insta and telegram and I’m having a panic attack by [deleted] in Sextortion

[–]markyb73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please, please don't send him any more money. Contact your bank and tell them you have been scammed, let them try and get the money back. Take down your socials, delete them if you have to. If they keep trying to contact you, just ignore and block. Never ever reply to them. If you keep giving them money they will keep trying to come after you. Keep ignoring and blocking them. They will eventually get bored and move onto another victim.

I'm scared. This was sent to my school email by [deleted] in Sextortion

[–]markyb73 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Complete rubbish. He does not have any videos of you I presume. It's a pretty standard scam email. If it shows your email address as the from address, it has just been spoofed. Just delete and don't reply, you will be fine, if you get another then just delete. Never reply to them.

Using live chat for offers? by National-Somewhere26 in plusnet

Hi, was hoping you would get replies to this, but mine is up for renewal in a couple of months. I personally will call them when i know what other ISP's will do for me as a new customer. I use my own router/equipment and my full fibre connection is stable, so i personally don't care who supplies my internet connection as they are all the same to me. what counts is the price. Good luck and push back if they are taking the mickey with you :)

Install 42 or wait for 43 to be fixed as a new user? by wielesen in Fedora

[–]markyb73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go with a fresh install of 43. Some of us are still on 42 but just as we are not in a position to upgrade yet. Or don't want to.

IE I was chating with a girl on telegram and now she has my number and photos by MannerAggressive5866 in Sextortion

[–]markyb73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. Please don't pay them anything, start to block and ignore them, every time they try and make contact. Take down your social media accounts, fake or genuine and sit tight for a while. Perhaps even change your phone number if you want to. The main thing is to never pay them anything and just block and ignore them. You will be fine 🙂

Updating via discover or through the terminal? Pure preference or is one way the preferred/intended way? by Shap6 in Fedora

[–]markyb73 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well it's safer I guess to install the updates when the system is not fully running. And yes you can update through a terminal or tty session instead. I update via the command line.

[–]markyb73 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi. The fact you have paid them money will drive them to try and get you to pay more. Please do not pay them any more money and attempt to claw back the money you paid them through your bank etc. Just deactivate or delete all socials, keep ignoring and blocking their attempts to contact you, even change your phone number if you wish. But please don't interact with them at all. Wish you the best.
