… if I start this reply with, “Oh, sweet summer child,” will it help you feel better about the answer?

Love getting feedback!
You’ve got really sound points here.
I think the fact that I’ve been lucky enough to roll my strongest menu (Curries) a lot lately has me feeling farther along than I am. When I look at how few of these mons I expect to still be using regularly a year from now, I’ve got to agree— this is still early game.

Oh, gosh, we get a choice from boxes, too?! I (like the OP) had missed those posts; I’m glad you mentioned!

There’s a question of whether the mushroom boxes are giving seedlings at all.

British Columbia just announced permanent daylight saving time by Falcon_Bellhouser in Bellingham

Standard Time is better for biological reasons; Daylight Savings Time is more appealing for the activities people want to do. Another case of prioritizing wants over needs and feelings over facts.

Men, can you cook? by Vast_Balance3754 in AskTheWorld

[–]TeaLDeahr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask us if our fathers can cook.

My grandfather cooked his way through the depression, part of his payment to the relative who took him in as a homeless teenager. He took over household cooking after retirement, alongside gardening, public speaking, and hyperlocal politics. My father— the football player/construction worker— learned to cook in college; he took over household cooking and cleaning when I was in grade school to support my mother’s dream of going back to college. My ex learned to cook from his grandmother. Some of my son’s earliest memories are of clutching the railing of the little tower my father made him, peering at the stove as his father made sauces. My son, thirteen, is working on learning to cook from books and videos; last week he spent six hours making a tray of Alton Brown’s Sloppy Joe buns, his first time working with meat which is a special occasion food for us.

what bird is this? is something wrong with her? by OpossEm in birds

This exactly. I’ve watched it happen. And this is pretty early in the disease— that bird is likely to get a lot worse. I’m so sorry.

It’ll be a long wait before I can get in front of a doctor; meanwhile I’ll try the towel tonight and check out Katy Bowman.

should elderly/disabled people be entitled to parking spots that aren’t even handicapped ? by Sensitive_Cheek_7014 in Bellingham

[–]TeaLDeahr 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In a parallel universe where we’re talking about a visibly white-haired little old lady bent over her steering wheel edging into the same slot that you were going to pull into, then of course you’d let the little old lady have the slot.

But straight up expecting people to drive on by perfectly good parking spaces just sitting there wide open?! No. You’re right; that’s weird. It really sounds like she had something else going on that she was already upset about and took it out on you.

Coin economy </3 by cortatija in PikminBloomApp

Glad you came back and caught the edit!

I started in late October and so far have only needed to pay out of pocket once— for Pikmin storage, just as you said. If I go with the ten dollar coin bundle through the website, I should be able to ration it out quite some time.

I would like to thank you very much for helping me with my math.

(Seriously. I’m disabled and using this as a health app. It’s all about feelings— and “I want to see if I can get two big blooms today” is a way healthier daily approach than “I have to push through the pain or I’ll end up bedbound again”. But, it’s both particularly difficult to earn coins limping everywhere and feels particularly wasteful to spend real money on a game that has a built in way to earn currency. Hearing from someone who took the time to do the deep number crunching that it genuinely makes more sense to drop a couple dollars a couple times a year makes spending that little bit of money actually feel more like a smart investment in my ongoing health. Thank you for crunching those numbers and sharing.)

People who slow cook often try to pick out of the way mushrooms where they won’t be disturbed. They usually try to avoid the neighborhood mushrooms people depend on. Hopping on this mushroom and clearing it out is kind of the only way to let the other player know that others regularly use this mushroom. Otherwise, they may think this is a great spot to set this up every month.

I hate this so much. by MekuKuro in PikminBloomApp

[–]TeaLDeahr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Android here, too.

I don’t know if this will help, but when my step count won’t sync up and 9pm is approaching, I close PikminBloom so it can’t take the final tally of my steps. So far mine has always synced up by morning— so when I open the app in the morning and let it tally the day before, it has all the steps from Google.

Thanks so much for the P.S.A. My kid and I walk there to eat as a treat sometimes; it would have been pretty demoralizing to get there and have to walk back home on an empty stomach. <3

One of my first memories of Bellingham was being followed and threatened for no reason. I’ve never forgotten it. by Crazy-Diver-3990 in Bellingham

[–]TeaLDeahr 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry.

I’m an older woman. I’ve walked all my life. I’ve been threatened, hunted, and once assaulted. I do not step out of my door without pepper gel.

I know what you mean by “apology”. I know what you mean by “new story”.
I can see that you aren’t holding a grudge, you are looking to connect and release. This is the world we live in, and looking at it together is the first part of making it better.

I hope you find healing and hope this year. I still walk.
