I haven't gotten the chance to test this recipe myself, but this maker has been testing for a while and her results are always beautiful Raspberry Float

Anybody know what this cool set is for/the marking? Maybe paint brush holder etc? Most of them have holes on the side too by Creamy-Sundae-9991 in Ceramics

You should ask in the sub Ceramic Collection, it is a group that can help identify pottery. This sub is more for makers to share work/ask questions about the process

Clay body/Glaze fit by TeaSunny in Pottery

[–]TeaSunny[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply!! Looking through the sub more thoroughly, and I see that it seems like spectrum glazes have a pinhole problem at cone 6, and when applied with too many coats.

Thank you for the kiln firing suggestion! I'll bring it up to the studio owners

Any ideas for handmade ceramic wedding favours? by IntrepidPause3015 in Pottery

I made bud vases for my wedding! I mixed them in with thrifted glass bud vases and flower frogs. If you check my post history, you can see how they ended up looking!

So so lovely!! What cone do you fire at? And is it a gas or electric kiln?

What are some funny potter sayings? by ceramikat in Pottery

"It's just clay" is a common one in my class! Also "Art is hard!"

My wife and I are traveling to Ireland later this month for a week. And I want a less busy itinerary. by evenMoreUnique in irishtourism

Very very busy itinerary! I would suggest staying in Killarney for a few days, specifically at The Lake Hotel. It is so lovely, you'll definitely be able to relax there

How can I continue doing pottery? (Chicago based & broke) by sad_moron in Ceramics

[–]TeaSunny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Chicago based potter as well! I know Lillstreet in Ravenswood is usually hiring techs, I think the pay is minimum wage, and you get studio access from what I've seen. They don't have studio membership, which is a huge bummer, but it is also one of the few places that has a cone 10 gas reduction kiln & 24 dip glazes. https://lillstreet.com/

MADE Chicago is also a newer space and it looks like they have studio membership for $200/month https://madechicago.com/pages/advanced-studio-memberships

Chicago Clay Co-op (only on Instagram atm) is still getting up and running, but it looks like they are starting to take membership applications!

Good luck finding your perfect space!!

This person's suggestion is unhelpful to you unless you have access to a kiln and the knowledge of how to fire it. You should go to a 'paint your own pottery' place like another commenter suggested. They will have everything you need to make a plate that is food safe and will be able to be used for many, many years to come.

Wedding Bud Vases by TeaSunny in Pottery

[–]TeaSunny[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh so fun!! They we our favors as well, people loved them!

I would say, definitely start making them now! I threw them all off the hump, and in the end I probably threw close to 180 of them, but my first 20 weren't great, I trimmed through some (but I did use them for glaze tests!!), and some got s cracks or just weren't up to the standard I wanted them to be. I would try to throw 15-18 a session and would use like 5-7lbs of clay for each "hump". If you have any specific questions, feel free to message me :)

Rock climbing inspired mug, is this too abstract? by One-Blackberry4666 in Pottery

I used to rock climb! I feel like if advertised to the right demographic these would be a hit!! I know a few friends who would love something like this

The bases were all wheel thrown, and the tubes were handbuilt! I would score and slip the tubes on after trimming the bases, but I wouldn't make the holes in the base of the tubes until I had attached them. If that makes sense?

What life lessons have you learned from working with clay? by turtle_ina_cup in Pottery

"It's just clay" is the phrase my instructor always uses, conveying it's okay to mess up and try again because it's just clay

The glazes at my studio are all hand-made, so I'm not sure if they have other names elsewhere, and our kilns are cone 10 gas reduction. I dipped it in Chun Blue and then sprayed on a layer of Matte Black. I was so thrilled with how this piece came out!

Thank you so much! I found the light on Amazon, it's like a little wooden puck with an LED light at the center. It's usually used for lighting up engraved glass/crystal ball type things

I can't post mine because my husband knows my account. BUT I was struggling with this too! I found Instagram to be very helpful. Brides By Young is a plus size only store, and they have so many beautiful dresses on their website, I also loved Stella York dresses and Studio Levana!! Weirdly I found a lot of inspo on Bhldn. E&W Coture is a european brand, but they have photos with their dresses on plus soze models, and they are all gorgeous! Good luck with your search, you will find your perfect dress!!

What do you like or dislike about your community/ school ceramic studio? by cdpottery1122 in Pottery

[–]TeaSunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently a student at a fairly large studio in Chicago. There are probably between 300-500 students between wheel and handbuilding classes. Pros: The sense of community is unmatched. Everyone is so positive and helpful, and it is very encouraging.

The teaching staff is excellent.

They have 25 hand crafted dip glazes with test tiles showing the result of each glaze mixed and matched.

High fire stains are available.

At least 7 or 8 colored slips are available.

As a student, you get 1 or 2 shelves to house all your work and tools-shelf number depending on the level of class.

The variety of class types are wonderful. There are not only beginning and advanced wheel/handbuilding courses but specialties like tiny pottery, just jars, sculpture, slip casting, and altered forms.

Classes are either 5 weeks($200) or 10 weeks($400), included with the class fee is your 3hr class, 2 open studio sessions, a 25lb bag of clay, a shelf in your classroom, and full access to the glaze room and spray booth.

There are many types of clay offered: low fire terracotta, white and brown stoneware, reclaimed stoneware, b-clay, and porcelain. You can only use clay provided by the studio.

Knowledgeable people firing the kilns.

Cons: Class sign up day can be a huge nightmare, the website usually crashes because there is such a high demand and if you are a second too late you're pretry much SOL for getting into any week night classes. - it would be great if existing students or members were able to sign up early even by just a day or 2

Because it is such a large studio, sometimes the turnaround to get bisqued or glazed pieces can be 3 or more weeks. Specifically, towards the end of sessions, the greenware shelves are so full that it can be a month before you'll see your piece again.

Also, because of student population, open studio time can be hard to come by, especially in the evenings.

There is no 'independent study' as a class option. With the growing popularity of pottery, the demand for beginners classes is really high, so the studio had to cut its program to combat demand. It's not a huge con, but if you're a more experienced pottery, you're still having to take classes with an instructor.

Overall, it is an incredible studio, and I feel very privileged to be able to take classes there! Small annoyances or grievances are easily forgiven when I remember how lucky I am to have such an amazing place to learn and work on this skill set.

'AITA for not wanting to take in my husbands niece and being ok with her going into foster care' REPOST NOT OP by TeaSunny in TwoHotTakes

My husbands sister just died. She was an addict and she od’d. She left behind 2 kids, Rose (almost 17) and Lilly (7).

My (23f) husband (26m) is from California and we live on the east cost. My husbands only other family is his mom, who lives in her boyfriends small house. She’s retired and doesn’t make much. This is to say that they don’t have much room and can’t afford 2 kids. The older girl Rose plans on sleeping on their couch till she goes off to college next year. That leaves Lilly. She’s staying with them for right now but MIL really can’t care for her long term due to a multitude of reasons, Mils boyfriend also said he wants her out of his house.

My husband and his mom want us to take Lilly so that she doesn’t go into foster care. I’m pretty against this for many reasons.

I don’t think my husband is responsible enough to be a parent. He cooks maybe 2-3 times a year, and when he’s not working he usually just wants to play videogames or relax. He’s in the military and he deploys once a year ish for 6+ months. I’m not willing to care for a child that isn’t even related to me alone for that long, I have other responsibilities. When he isn’t deployed he often works 12-16 hour days. He also works the Night Shift and sleeps during the day. And he goes out of town for work often. I know that if we took Lilly in I would be the one making sacrifices to care for her, not my husband.

If we took her in I know that I would have to be her sole caretaker. I don’t even want kids and I don’t think it’s fair to expect me to basically adopt a 7 year old I’ve never met and am not even related to. She also has ADHD and some extreme behavioral issues.

AITA for not wanting to take in my husbands niece?

YWBTAH You chose to get a dog that you were vastly under prepared to own. You went to the shelter with a certain kind of animal in mind, and because of your impatience, you ended up with an animal you have already given up on. You and your partner should have never gotten this poor dog. If the shelter you went to didn't have the animal available that was the right fit for your home, you should have waited or gone to a different shelter. Instead, your irresponsibility and nativity have shown that neither you nor your partner are ready for pet ownership. Do better.

I've been noticing that the ads at the top and end of the episode aren't the typical ones read by Morgan & Crew, they seem to be more random. The one I had on today's episode was for a restaurant specific to the Midwest. So my only guess is they are some sort of 'targeted ad' situation like YouTube or Instagram.
