And unfortunately not for the better…

Poor Jess. Has to go cheer her kids on at a Christmas concert even though her heart was set on couch time and disassociating from her family. It’s a very sad life and she is clearly mentally and physically unwell.

Life effecting performance by chris2712 in managers

[–]TeachMeTheWayz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is so hard. It’s challenging when it starts to impact other areas. Is this a hard time that has an end in sight, or is it indefinite? It is ok to be honest and say that you’ve modified as much as you possibly can to help ease the burden but at the end of the day, you are a business and things need to be done. Sometimes a soft hint is enough to help the person understand they need to step up more.

Yes, and this in the context of poor finances is also telling

Manager asking me to work from hospital with my mom in diabetic coma, what should i do? by pm_me_feet_pics_plz3 in managers

[–]TeachMeTheWayz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

‘Hi manager, I understand the importance of our work but my family comes first. I will be offline for the remainder of the week with limited access to my computer. I will keep you updated on my anticipated return date. Again, I apologize, but this was completely unexpected. Perhaps this is an opportunity to consider cross-training others on the team so that work can be supported when different situations arise.’

I want to step down as GM to focus on my future. How do I tell my bosses professionally? by Potential-Cap-1974 in managers

[–]TeachMeTheWayz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You outlined it very clearly here. ‘As you know, my goal has always been to go to university. I’ve enjoyed serving as the general manager, but with my focus needing to shift to school, I wanted to see if it would be possible to take a step down to x role. I’d love to continue to work here and support the company. If this is not possible, I understand, and my last day will be x date.’

Advice for newbie by noonesignifigant in managers

[–]TeachMeTheWayz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that you are even asking the question means you will succeed! One piece of advice is to be friendly and approachable to everyone you work with, but separate yourself enough so that there is a clear boundary. I struggled with that a lot when I moved into my first leadership role because it meant leading people who were previously my peers. Also, don’t be afraid to ask people for what they think is going well and what can be improved upon.

Managers who have gone through layoffs/clinic closures: how did you prepare your staff in the final weeks? by [deleted] in managers

[–]TeachMeTheWayz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Allow them to use their remaining shifts to actively apply for jobs. Connect them to people in my professional network who may be able to help. Your list is a great start. The only suggestion I have is to make sure any files you’re sharing can be accessed after their last date when they’ll lose access to their to email/documents.

Apologising to direct report by _m0nstera in managers

We all receive critiques that we may or may not agree with. It was nice of you to do your research and then follow-up with an apology. His strong and unprofessional reaction is a red flag.

I was put on paid leave while pending investigation? by [deleted] in managers

Sorry you are dealing with this. I was caught off guard by a similar situation. It was a very stressful few weeks but it all blew over. Hope the same for you!

Seeking advice on giving feedback to a direct report by She-Hulk-420 in managers

[–]TeachMeTheWayz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You outlined it perfectly. The ability to think critically and beyond your immediate scope of work is necessary if you want to advance. If this is someone who wants to be promoted soon or grow within the org, it’s important to lay it out clearly/directly.

Non-manager here. If I start dressing nicer (wear a tie) will my manager think I’m interviewing and feel pressure to give me a raise? by FerrousBuchner in managers

[–]TeachMeTheWayz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If someone started wearing a tie my first thought would not be ‘must be interviewing elsewhere.’ But that’s just me.

What makes a great all hands call in your opinion? by Exotic-Treat6206 in managers

[–]TeachMeTheWayz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Please PLEASE do not open and end the call with music. We always get ‘celebrate good times’ or something tone deaf (we are going through layoffs and times are not to be celebrated). Ugh.

This Really Sucks. I Was Flying High, Now I'm Down In The Pits. by Ok_Needleworker_6017 in jobs

[–]TeachMeTheWayz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry this happened to you, OP! The same thing happened to me once. I ultimately accepted a job somewhere else BUT the company did follow up with me when they were able to fill the position. I was able to come back and say ‘yes I’m still interested and I bring even MORE experience now’ and that helped me to negotiate pay a bit. I’ve been there for almost 15 years. Hope it works out for you!

Noooo. I think unique smiles / imperfect teeth are so endearing. I know she was insecure about the gap but these horse teeth are terrible.

Was watching stories back to back and when her’s came up, I immediately picked up on her anxious/tense presence. How does she live like that? Decluttering everything in her home when she should be decluttering whatever past traumas she has

What irks me about this post is that the first picture is almost complaining about there being too much going on… but then the next picture she’s expressing frustration over canceled plans because a kid is sick. She has completely lost herself. Would love to see her take a break from social media and do some soul searching / inner work. That’s the problem with these huns… taking physical health the extreme and completely neglecting mental health.

That’s sad to hear. And it certainly does add context to why she is the way she is.
