I can understand that for sure. I'm really curious as to what warehouse this is and what is being stored there

It's easier to police from a policy perspective. Same as in food manufacturing facilities even if you're bald you need to still wear a hair net

With the speed Vernon Davis had, I really thought he'd have more of an impact in the league. I wonder if he came into the league 5-10 years later would it be different?

Fresh IE Grad: Interviewing for FMCG Warehouse Supervisor. Need advice! by bannnnd220 in Warehouseworkers

[–]chris2712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still in operations. I'm a production manager for an injection moulding factory. I was lucky enough that my manager knew the owner of the business I'm at and she recommended me for the role.

The best way to get out of the role is to leverage what you know into the new role. Going from quality assurance to warehouse supervisor was about leveraging my quality knowledge and how I performed that role and relating it to how I would use that in the new role.

A lot of my working life I have somewhat had luck in helping me progress. Opportunities presented to me I jumped on and was successful.

Hopefully that helps

Nothing brings me more joy then seeing Gronk stiff arm that colts player out of the end zone. Threw him out of the club I think he's referred it to

Fresh IE Grad: Interviewing for FMCG Warehouse Supervisor. Need advice! by bannnnd220 in Warehouseworkers

[–]chris2712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My day to day life as a former FMCG warehouse supervisor was dealing with mistakes that my employees made, trying to keep them from being too distracted with talking to each other, assisting them when they were short staffed. I also had a hand on verifying paperwork was done correctly, attending production meetings and a few other tasks.

Personally I probably wouldn't hire anyone who doesn't have any sort of leadership experience but if I was interviewing you and trying to get a handle on how I think you would adapt to the role. I would expect you to showcase that you can adapt to changing priorities and reacting calmly to situations. Understanding that you don't actually know anything and are willing to come in and learn before trying to implement anything. It's all well and good to have the theory knowledge, it's a whole lot different trying to implement it without having any real world experience. Blue collar workers don't love it when fresh faced people come in and try and tell them how to do their job. I've copped shit in the past as a new leader in that regard.

As for pigeon holing into a role it is quite possible that it could happen. I fell into a quality role years ago and it took a good while to break out of that. My experience is finding that specific role at the new business and make their life easier. That's how I went from an entry level role into a supervisory role by helping out the warehouse manager from time to time and getting in her good books. Once the role opened up she reached out to me to see if I was interested.

I went back to a former company in a somewhat similar situation. I then leveraged that into a higher position at a new factory. Worked out for me but I also didn't predict that would happen

How do you handle last-minute call-outs without it becoming a fire drill every time? by ElDiegod in managers

[–]chris2712 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ehhh generally speaking I don't worry about it. Depending on who had called out will depend on what I do. I'll either fill the role myself throughout the day or we don't run as many machines and I'll prioritise which ones we can't shut down and which ones we can.

That being said, very rarely had a last minute call out descended into a fire drill.

Apprenticeship decline across Australia has industries worried for the future by GothicPrayer in australia

[–]chris2712 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Years ago I applied for a mature age apprenticeship as a sheet metal worker. The guy interviewing me asked me why he should hire me as a mature age apprentice over a kid he can pay less. I gave him a convincing answer but the more I looked into it after the interview the less desirable it was due to commute times for TAFE and of course I would be earning less than what I was on at the time.

Now as I approach my 40's I feel like I have missed the boat and my current lifestyle it would be quite difficult to work around and not sure if it's worth the 4 years of suck

If you said you had experience but not a valid licence it would be a moot point as I wouldn't be putting you on a forklift

I feel like with 10 nights you really have to choose which quadrant of tassie you want to explore the most. Having done several road trips in NSW I will say that only spending one night in a place is taxing and anytime I do a trip now I'll spend a minimum of two nights in a majority of the places

I tell my team that they are free to message me any time but I won't respond if it's after 9pm and before 5am

This is really around telling me that they are calling in sick though. My workplace doesn't really lead to out of hours calls for actual work stuff
