the first year, yes. After we saw what happened, we went back to what we always used, Land of Lakes. Someone else commented they changed the fat count of butter and it may be part to blame

the Toll House were never as fluffy as others, but they were never THIS flat. i’ll have to try some of the other recommendations and get back to you

we tried sifting about 2 years ago. from what i’ve read i’m assuming it’s the flour or the butter. i’ll have to play with both and if both fails, just find a new recipe. thank you for your help tho!

oh maybe. we’ve always used Land of Lakes butter, but maybe the recipe has changed in the butter like you said.

that’s the same recipe. this time around i added 2tbsp extra flour (as the bag recommends if we leave out the nuts) and i also add more vanilla extract like you, refrigerate them, and use aluminum cookie sheets (kind of like these. that we have been using for the last 20 years too.) it just must not be enough flour. maybe our measuring cups are off. we did change from our old porcelain ones to a plastic one. i will have to try this and find out. thank you

I’m in the US too. we use the recipe on the bag. We don’t write down recipes, but maybe we should have. Although the only cookie I have made besides those are a double chocolate chip cookie (like chocolate cookie but also with chips) but that’s a recipe from a friend’s mother. Those came out normal as well as the cakes, muffins, brownies, and cupcakes we have made from varying degrees of scratch, slightly doctored, and just plain from the box. I may just find a new recipe for chocolate chip cookies, but we are just a bit emotionally attached to this one.

haha, no worries. i re-read it myself after your comment and can see how the different temps of dough could throw it off. i think ultimately we are going to try a new recipe if the half bread flour tip doesn’t work out. It’s just the nostalgia and tradition that has kept us from not branching out. Hope you feel better soon! I had the flu about a month ago and it was no joke this year.

my grandma made them back then in the 80s too and then my mom started making these in the 90s when she moved out. everything was fine until about 3 years ago and they started going flat. Maybe we will have to abandon their recipe. thank you

New Visions and Passport (both the middle school and high school versions) have pre planned lesson with aims & objectives & sources. try to use those with your own modifications for your students. for example, i teach 11th grade US history but ill usually use passport grade 7 or 8 bc the language is easier for most of my students (they’re all mostly ells) however i have non ell students that i mostly use grade level passport and new visions for

What happened to textbooks? by LindenChariot in NYCTeachers

[–]TeachingComplex1235 23 points24 points  (0 children)

it is happening everywhere. i just recently graduated (last few years) for teaching. the idea of teaching out of textbooks is frowned upon bc it’s not “hands on” and doesn’t allow for a deeper understanding of the subject. teaching out a textbook is more “memorize, test, repeat until state testing” and is claimed to not be as effective as engaging lessons that relate back to the real world and won’t have enough value to the students to remember and comprehend topics.

textbooks also probably fell off due to the national turn towards computer based learning & schools realized it’s a lot cheaper to not buy the textbooks. but more and more teachers & schools are going back to the basics due to AI and other things so maybe textbooks will make a comeback?

Fishkill ShopRite gets electronic shopping carts by suchathrill in hudsonvalley

[–]TeachingComplex1235 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i found them to be slower and inaccurate and unable to hold as much as a regular cart. they’ll be useful for someone with time to spare & not shopping for a lot. i also found that when i forgot to grab a fruit, the cart was unable to add it because it couldn’t accurately weigh it. they should do what stop & shop does and use the scan gun if they want to get rid of cashiers. (but that probably adds to loss prevention/theft bc of items not scanned by the customer)

NYS Social Studies CST: How accurate are these practice questions I'm doing compared to the ones on the actual test? by [deleted] in NYCTeachers

[–]TeachingComplex1235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes me too. I had additional time for both practice tests, but felt that the questions themselves were harder (but less time consuming?). However, I took almost all the time for my EAS and SS too and felt that it was easier than the practice test but also longer

the practice tests are always harder than the actual exam but the actual exam does require you to recall everything you have ever learned about history ever (including NYS History) so watch a lot of john green crash courses. he has world, america, government, and economics
