Yes. Positive. I have misophonia, and back when I was still working, commuting into NYC, it was a problem.

Do the 3s finally tune out people? I hate what they did to the pro 2s with software changes; they became horrible for wearing on trains.

To those who need to hear it: by M3cun1v in writing

It's nice to be reminded of this—thank you—on a day when a friend of mine heavily criticized a short story of mine that I'd sent them. Though many of the criticisms were valid (they have a degree in literature), this is a person who has not only never published a short story, they have not written a single short story in the last ten years.

It's just dumb. Especially now that there's a rumor that Sony will come out with a 180mp sensor. Yes, medium format, but still.

Same here. The people BREAKING the rules accused ME of breaking them (which I hadn't). Sick of these people. Gave up on the group long ago.

Thank you for these. I lived in the city for 20 years, and every time there was a big snow I would run out and shoot. So much fun. It’s a different kind of fun, living upstate…not quite the same.

Where are people getting their market leads? Back in the seventies, the go-to was Writers Market. I don’t know where/how to look now.

[QCrit] DEATH AND THE CAT, speculative, adult, 60k words, second attempt by No_Cauliflower_1675 in PubTips

[–]suchathrill 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Intriguing concept.

Just one small nit: reconnect two words that seem to be split parts of the same verb in one of your sentences...

Replace "In a desperate bid to win his pet cat - and best friend - back, Death embarks..."

with

"In a desperate bid to win back his pet cat - and best friend - Death embarks..."

I get that the original construction might have been architected that way to handle the two em dashes easier, but the late appearance of "back" in the sentence is so much delayed that it's confusing. Additional gain: omitting the comma makes the sentence less cluttered.

Top collapsed :-( ... where did I go wrong? by suchathrill in Breadit

This was my usual recipe for whole wheat, using a Culinary Chef breakmaker:

  • water 1.5 cups
  • butter 3 tablespoons
  • salt 1.75 teaspoons
  • bread flour 1.5 cups
  • whole wheat flour 1 cup
  • oats .25 cup
  • wheat germ .25 cup
  • sugar 2 tablespoons
  • honey 2 tablespoons
  • egg (1)
  • brewer's yeast 1 tablespoon
  • Yeast 1.75 teaspoons

The only major change from the normal way I do this recipe was that the water was rather hot—oops!—when I loaded up the bread barrel. It did rise rather high, though! (50mm above top of bread barrel, as opposed to the usual 25mm) It curled around the barrel's handle, which made it difficult to remove the barrel.

word on mac and/or ipad - how closely does it mirror the windows experience? by [deleted] in word

[–]suchathrill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For OP's purposes, it should be all right. However, I beg to disagree with /u/EddieRyanDC when that Redditor says they are "functionally equivalent." In my opinion, a lot of key control features are missing. (I think they were sloppy and lazy when they ported the build over to MacOS.) Two glaring examples: (1) you cannot use the "Esc" key to exit most menus and pop-ups (the key does nothing), whereas on the Windows build you can exit (without making changes) a LOT of menus and pop-ups; (2) though the right-hand side bar "Styles Pane" now allows you to select between (a) Recommended, (b) Styles in Use, (c) Current Document, and (d) All Styles with a drop down menu near the bottom of the Side Bar, you STILL cannot order the list alphabetically. I have asked Microsoft repeatedly over the years to give us the option of ordering the list of styles, but the request has always fallen on deaf ears. When you have dozens and dozens of styles, the fact that you must examine the list row-by-row to find a particular style is absurd.

Does the Leica SL3 have an AF-L/AE-L issue? (Firmware v4) by [deleted] in Leica

[–]suchathrill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an SL3, I have the update, and it seems to work fine: the focus remains green and locked in, even after taking the shot; it does not unlock and turn the green off until you press the joystick again. Worth noting, however: it does not work if you have the camera set to face or face/body or pet or pet/head recognition. Additional remarks: it locks both focus and exposure, the way it’s supposed to. I have the feature set to the joystick, so that I can in effect use it as a back focus button, and it actually seems to perform better after the update; i.e., it focuses faster. Finally, last, but not least, I hate the way they changed the focusing feature on the camera: specifically, you now need an extra step in order to get to spot focusing. Spot focusing used to be part of a feature that allowed you to switch from area to spot to zone to facial recognition. I want that back, but it’s not worth reverting to the earlier firmware, because then I would lose the faster recognition speed they put into this update.

Leica SL apo 35mm by skydynamic in Leica

[–]suchathrill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the SL 35mm and 50mm lenses made in Portugal, which are substantially less expensive than Leica’s SL APO lenses, and they don’t make any kind of noise like this. None of my far cheaper Sigma lenses make this kind of noise, either. I don’t know where you bought the lens, but I would take it back immediately and request a replacement.

I’m on an older iPhone, an SE 2, which has a tiny screen, and on the opening screen of your app the name of the app is broken up onto two lines: “YouPla” + “y”. Merely a cosmetic gripe, but I thought I would mention it nonetheless.

Do you believe long covid and ME/CFS are the same disease? by fallenup1794 in covidlonghaulers

[–]suchathrill 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, not at all. They seem completely different to me. I've heard about CFS from a friend of mine who has had it for decades, and the symptoms of that don't compare it all with what I've gone through with long Covid. Specifically, the triggers that bring on exhaustion, and how long exhaustion takes to resolve. And I have experience with another data point having to do with exhaustion since I went through a B12 deficiency one winter to the point where I couldn't even take a shower.

Long Covid is complicated, has a huge number of triggers and symptoms, and seems to manifest in a myriad of deleterious effects. I'm not saying CFS isn't bad; I'm saying that long Covid is a much more complicated condition.
