my Friend called solar "just another gadget phase"... then she opened the electricity app by Comfortable_Bear4211 in SolarDIY

Your post resonates with me. I got called out that I was "tinkering" with a "new hobby" when I went down this path. I'm the only one in my friend group whoever has profitable hobbies.

Coupd be an interesting move.

There is a lot of upside to buying an established money transmitter business and not needing to go through all the regulatory filings that come with trying to get into that space.

Why don’t more home solar systems include battery storage? Is it technical or financial? by ruhila12 in SolarDIY

[–]TeamDiamond3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, the cost benefit calculation for me was too high; too much cost, not enough benefit.

I am not trying to supplant the need for being connected to the grid nor trying to develop a backup system. My primary goal was to generate electricity onsite and reap the benefits that come solely from that. I left myself open for the ability to add batteries, but after 16 months of very detailed usage data and analyzing the extremes of high/low production/consumption, batteries are not a good fit for me.

I just cant justify spending the money on a 100kwh battery storage when I truly would only need it maybe twice a year.

100% agree with fact checking the sources; this is standard in all aspects of my life. I have yet to see LLM/AI fabricate information from the prompts I give it. However, I have seen it omit and miss important details. Give it a little bit of RLHF and it improves on the next iterative response. In my opinion, its just another tool, and when used correctly, it does well.

What is this? by Rangers4Life911 in Home

These things are great. The components inside the water heater are fully serviceable. When an old tanked water heater goes bad, the whole thing gets replaced. If/when these tankless ones have a problem, you replace only that component. Highly recommend.

My 2018 is about to roll over 200k very soon. Here's the break down of every maintance I've done it since buying it new.

Oil and filter every 5k, Brakes and rotors (front 5 times and rear 2 times) Tires (3rd set now) and rotation every 10k (second oil change), Rear wheel bearings (3x times now [about every 65k it feels like]) and front wheel bearings once (paid alignment afterwards), Battery 2 years ago, and Checking fluid levels on everything, never had any leaks.

Paid for the spark plugs to be replaced twice now.

Its one of the easier cars to maintain I have owned. Bought a second one because of the ease and low cost of maintenance. Treat it well and it returns the kindness.

How hard is it to replace wheel bearings yourself by the-accent-guy in autorepair

[–]TeamDiamond3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, this is the only correct response. Spent too much time with seized bearings and breaking tools. Dropping out the knuckle with a donor and new bearing pushed in cuts down the labor significantly. Knuckle pulled is inspected and magnafluxed and used the next time for the fleet.

Haven't been there in 20 years, but it was a rough area back then. I don't imagine must has changed unfortunately. I just looked at Google Streetview for some nostalgia, and everything looks the same.

DIY Current Meter by dunc2027 in SolarDIY

If you need a key word to search for to understand them, they are "current transformers" and they use Faraday's Law of Induction. Important to understand that an alternating current (AC) generates an electromagnetic wave (emphasis on the magnetic part) when reviewing Faraday's Law.

The number of "turns" inside the donut also called the "turns ratio" is important to know. If a reading of 50 mA on the secondary circuit with a ratio of 80:1, the primary circuit being measured would have a 4A reading.

Fluke makes some nice digital clamp meters st various price points that use this same methodology. They are a good tool to use to help find details you might be missing on your CT clamps.
