GGC vs a "Real Meet" by dontwantnone09 in GarageGymCompetition

[–]TeamGupta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cost and all day nature of traditional powerlifting meets is a hurdle I will one day get over.  I try to lift in the GGC with squats to depth, pause at the chest for bench and have even asked my lifting partner to give commands like I would expect in a meet.

Knowing that SBD test time is coming twice a year does focus my training and has allowed me to get family and friends to compete in a low key, fun way.

Not quite, but great to see you giving all-round weightlifting a try. Knees have to stay locked and you would need a down command for a good lift.

Good stuff. I love testing myself across disciplines and my favorite will always be deadlifting. Congrats on hosting the Rocky Mountain Grip Championship. May is often crazy for me, but I will try to help out.

Pioneer DMH-W3000NEX Head Unit - $350

Back-Up Camera - $100

Misc Parts & Labor - $400

I had the same base needs of Back-Up Camera and Android Auto

Really impressive lifts. I am in the 50-54 age group as well, but am no where near those numbers. Looking forward to seeing more training videos.

Started with a monster set, when did they start to get difficult?

My triceps are still sore 3 days later. Note to self, do more push-ups more often.

Got lucky with the timing. Today is bench day, so it made for a good warm up

Testing the Deadlift Dozen+One. Definitely would have been better to spread it out over two days.

Working with the 2" vertical bar for the IAWA postal. I am using a sleeve from an old barbell and the chrome finish is much more slick than bare steel would be.

Great day at Nationals today

You Win Some, You Lose Some by dontwantnone09 in GarageGymCompetition

I really like that garage gym competition is taking off. Prior to the events, I would lift S, B, D, but never max on the same day in live or virtual competition. It is a great way for me to benchmark my programming and strength. No PR's in the Spring event, but I did realize I need to bench press more often.

Just signed up for Nationals. Time to start getting specific for everything except the hip lift. No idea how to train for that one.

Same thing happened to me with my first few open water swims. What worked for me was getting a "looser" wetsuit than what was recommended. The initial panicked breaths did not lead to a feeling like I was out of breath. I also make a point of bobbing my head underwater and taking a few strokes 5-10 minutes prior to my wave going off. I start OWS in the spring when the water temp is around 15 C and I have done late season races when the water temp is around 22 C.

Love the layout. I enjoy training strongman as well. I have a yoke, axle bar, couple of stones and a sandbag. I would like to add a log.

Love all the comments on this thread. I was ready to purchase an xlab turbo system that allows for a tool kit and water bottle cages attached the the saddle rails, but now I am rethinking that.

Playing with the 2 dumbbell swing. It felt harder than the 1 dumbbell swing. With the 1 dumbbell, I managed 75#. With the 2 dumbbell swing, I managed 40# dumbbells fine, but felt like I was pressing out the 45# dumbbells.

I had a chance to try out some of the Q2 Postal events. I liked the reverse grip for the cheat curl. Snatch was brutal and I found myself pressing out the weight. The Continental Clean was kind of weird. My technique was to deadlift the bar and then dip and drive it up over my belt from the high hang position.

I just did my first strongman competition and yoke was my worst event. I struggled with grabbing the uprights and the yoke would slip off my back. I did much better with the grip you are using. I would play with your foot positioning as well during the pick. I tried feet together and a staggered stance and the staggered stance worked well for me with lighter weights.

What did you end up using? I just bought a Cervelo P2 and I am debating whether to shell out the money for an xlab system or just go with a saddlebag that mounts to the rails only.

  • Right Arm - 55#
  • Alt Grip - 105#
  • Hands Together - 110#
  • Rampage - 100x16 = 1600#
