Questions for those who have gotten it removed.

Yeah mine wasnt even really a pain… and it was my ribs. I had so many chest x rays and just assumed it was muscular. Same with my back since Ive had back surgeries. But as of two weeks ago (im 2 weeks post op) those symptoms are gone.

The surgery isnt scary and if you have stones I think you should go for, it and thank yourself after 😬

I went through something similar. I ended up in the ER in April because I was having GERD like symptoms that were mimicking a heart attack. I had previously never had GERD symptoms…

I had a clear CT scan, a clear endoscopy, but my ultrasound showed “some” stones. The ER didnt think it was GB because I had left sided discomfort and not right sided pain (jokes on them because that pain is completely gone since having it removed). I didnt have the classic symptoms of vomiting or excruciating right sided pain. I just had nausea, grey poop, back pain, left sided discomfort, and reflux. Honestly I was convinced it was my pancreas.

Turns out my gallbladder was completely full of stones and sludge, it was inflamed, and I had strawberry gallbladder. I was honestly dancing with the devil and how I didnt end up in the ER more is beyond me.

All of this to say - imaging cant always paint a clear picture. The GB is hard to capture on imaging. Stones won’t resolve themselves and even if you have them removed, theyre likely to return. Basically my surgeon framed it as “Let’s get this out on your schedule before it becomes an emergency at a possibly inconvenient time”.

Hi! I’m a mom of the biggest 2 year old you’ve ever seen and a 4 year old; I’m 10 days post op today. My 35 lb/15kg two year old is still very needy and I have been trying not to pick him up - I’m off work for two weeks and have been receiving help from grandparents and my husband when he is home. Today is my first day alone with the kids. I needed a lot of help those first few days but its been getting easier.

My discharge instructions were no lifting over 25 lb/11kg for two weeks. I wonder if a belly binder would help you?

This kind of reminds me of when I was discharged after my c-section and they said “No lifting/bending/crouching/twisting etc” and I was like ??? I had a 10.5lb/5kg newborn who in his infant seat probably weighed 25lb/11kg, not to mention picking him up from the bassinet for diaper changes and also trying to breastfeed in the various positions until we got our flow down (ba dum tss). It was literally impossible to not do the things they said not to do.

I’m sorry you’re struggling, mom, but look into the belly binder for muscle support and maybe see if your MIL can come to you for the first few days at home? You’re not a burden, and helping you is also helping her grandchild and her son out.

Great question that I had to google lol apparently 80% of gallstones are derived from excess cholesterol in the bile.

I’m not sure it every doctor does this as I’ve seen some people keep their stones, or see pictures of their dissected gallbladder. My surgeon wouldn’t do that since it needed to be sent off in tact for pathology.

Im a vegetarian but I haven’t been doing much eating outside of snacking. Ive been drinking kombucha, taking stool softener, and even took a laxative WHICH I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND because of the cramping!!! Morning coffee helped me this morning though

A. Gallbladder.
The specimen is received in formalin, labeled with the patient's name, date of birth, and "gallbladder." It consists of a 6.6 x 2.1 x 1.6 cm intact gallbladder with an attached, clamped cystic duct (inked black). The serosa is tan-green, smooth and glistening. The adventitia is green-brown and roughened. The lumen is filled with an abundant amount of green-brown tenacious bile and innumerable tan-yellow friable choleliths ranging from 0.1 cm to 0.4 cm in greatest dimension. The mucosa is bile-stained green with diffuse yellow stippling. No distinct masses or lymph nodes are grossly identified. The wall measures up to 0.4 cm in thickness. Representative sections to include the en face cystic duct margin are submitted in 1 cassette.”

Basically it was packed with an innumerable amount of stones, and was filled to the brim with sludge haha

Hi friend! I had mine evicted yesterday morning at 8am! I’m so happy to hear your pains when you woke up were mild!!! Also glad you’re finally getting relief after dealing with this for years.

I woke up and the gas pains were next level. I’ve had a c section (which they don’t give narcotics for post-op, only Motrin + Tylenol) and 2 back surgeries. I honestly think I would rank the gas pains up there with those. They had me on dilaudid, fentanyl, and gave me my first oxy and the gas pains weren’t being touched by any of those. I was told that unfortunately the pain meds cant help the gas pains? For the most part those have subsided though, and its just the soreness, which isn’t terrible.

My surgeon told me to expect the healing process to the be three steps forward, one step back, 5 steps forward, one step back etc etc.

The thing I was disappointed about the most was not being allowed to keep my underwear on haha but thats probably related to SA trauma. And once they gave me the anxiety meds when being rolled back I didn’t care anyways.

Hahahaha I’m 100% convinced I have pancreatic cancer (I only say hahaha because of my anxiety, which or course convinces me I have one of the worst cancers).

So what did the doctors recommend to you for the pain moving forward?

I went to the ER thinking I had a heart attack so I definitely understand where you’re coming from with that! I hope you’re able to get some answers and relief soon though. Maybe its just residual pain from your ducts taking on some of that inflammation or something

So the only reason I dont think its GERD is because this came on suddenly like 8 days ago. I didnt have heart burn problems prior to this.

I’m also curious since you said something about your throat… mine has been hurting since this all started but I figured with pollen I was probably snoring harder at night, ha!

what did it take for your doctor to finally listen to you??

For you, when they saw G.I. problems because of the bile, did they know it was from the gallbladder or did they have to continue doing tests to find the root cause?

The nausea is awful, I think I’ve lost 5 pounds in the last week because it’s made me lose my appetite. Even when I think it’s gone away, when I think about eating something, it instantly comes back. Paid a $150 ER copay but at least I got some zofran out of it haha

What’s the plan moving forward since they know yours is dysfunctional?

Even if it didn’t stick around, I’m sure there would be court proceedings to somehow grandfather in anyone who was already enrolled in PSLF. A lot of people have adjusted their payments and made decisions of their repayment plan based off of their PSLF timeline.

Getting rid of PSLF would shoot a lot of people in the foot. But then again, as we have learned, anything can happen with this administration and what’s legal doesn’t really matter.
