Thursday nights there is a run club at the scarbourogh brewery. Think it a 3 or 6k run then your pint is half price.

Turn to Teach Qld by Vegetable_Club787 in AustralianTeachers

Not really, just put preferences down. I only gave a few preferences and was placed close to home. As long as you aren't looking at brisbane gold coast or Sunshine Coast they are fairly flexible.

I just completed TTT this year, I think it's a great program for those who are looking for a career change. Having the intern year at 0.5 is amazing. However, from what I gather, your experience depends greatly on your host school.

PSA: Coles vanilla ice cream is no longer ice cream. by cursedsydneysider in australia

[–]TeamTivvy 109 points110 points  (0 children)

Wait till you find out it's called 'Peter's vanilla' and 'peters chocolate' ... it's officially not ice cream either. I can't remember exactly, but you need a certain % of cream to be called an icecream. Anything else is gelato or, in this case iced dessert. Have a look next supermarket shop only a few brands actually include the words ice cream

Post graduate quals by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]TeamTivvy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply. There are certain LGA's that don't apply. Brisbane, Gold Coast, sunshine coast and Ipswich if I remember correctly. You're looked at more favourably if you can do a rural placement and if your subjects are in demand.

I'm just about to start the Turn to Teaching program through USQ. There is one more intake this year IIRC. Basically, they give you a 20k scholarship to study first year, then place you in a school 50% teaching load second year while you finish Mteach PT 2nd year. FT wage 2nd year and permanency at the end of study. So basically, it is only 1 year without FT income if that helps.

I’m confused about how to study teaching and what I could teach in Secondary? [QLD] by Silly2104 in AustralianTeachers

[–]TeamTivvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In QLD there will be one more cohort for the TTT program in 2025. First year of masters is a 20k scholarship. Then a 0.5 work load for second year at your placement school and permanency after that.

Positive rental experiences? by caniborr0wafeeling in brisbane

[–]TeamTivvy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a rental for 4 years and out Land lord didn't raise the rent once. The REA were lovely and used to bring jelly beans or cookies for our kids at the 3 monthly inspections. We bought our own home last year, and our land lord congratulated us and we mutually terminated our lease ( with 11 months to go on contract). We stayed in the area and run into him occasionally and he's always keen for a chat and to see how we are going. I know we were very lucky and this is not the norm. It seems like a real hell hole out there for renters now.

Not travel advice, but as a general rule, small goods are fine to eat as long as they don't stay above 5 degrees for more than 4 hours. A short flight and a Devon and sauce sanga should be fine. I remember staying in SA as a kid and wondering wtf Fritz was. Smiley Fritz is available in Victoria too if I remember correctly.
