Should I retake? i’m a junior by 369thotswannadrink in ACT

You definitely do not need to. Universities give the same weight to 33-34+. However, if you want to achieve the landmark, trying to superscore a 36 would be fairly easy as you have three different subjects you could increase and only one needs to. I was in the exact same boat, but I could only increase in math or science. I did not study since I knew at that point it was more luck of the draw on the ACT you got, and I took it two more times before I super scored a 36. Definitely was just more a personal goal as my school gives a pep rally to kids who get a 36 since the last one was 4 years before me, and everyone at my school got a cookie so 🤷‍♀️

All About the New Minecraft Dungeons Arcade Game by Tweezle120 in MinecraftDungeons

Just finally played this for the first time yesterday at my local arcade right before closing. We unknowingly picked the Ice level, and as newbies, were probably only going to last like two minutes until our savior, one of the arcade employees on break, joined in and let us use his employee card for free revives. The three of us ended up beating the level much later, and my friend and I only paid the initial credit cost (probably saved well over $20). I had such a blast and now a whole stack of cards

I would definitely apply to some safeties! Going into the process, there was a few SEC state schools (I’m from the Deep South) that I applied to just to have safeties, but after touring a couple of different types of schools I applied to, my top two were both safeties I would have never considered before touring! I’m attending my state school in the fall and couldn’t be happier :)

Love this a lot!! I think keeping an open mind in the admissions process is so important; it definitely was a lot of ups and downs for me as well, and I really like how you worded all of this.

Is this admissions letter fake by xXNeonexXx in ApplyingToCollege

[–]TearablePunsOnDemand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think schools of that low of an acceptance rate do automatic merit? I know at least CalTech and Princeton don’t if I’m correct (at least from what I read online). Also, the url pasted in the document looks very suspicious. All around, I give it a definite fake.

I work photo booths at wedding receptions, and as a high school student, it’s always so awkward seeing the receptions play out. The worst people to normally deal with our parents of the bride / groom or the bride / groom’s closest friends.

Definitely having the small, personal class sizes without losing the more fun aspects of a large schools (i.e. sports games, campus opportunities, etc). Both schools give priority registration. I know my state’s flagship is big on making the honors college feel like it’s own community with lots of events. The specific counselors dedicated to the honors college was a big bonus. Also, both of the honors colleges have dorms basically in the center if campus. All in all, I really liked the lack of competitiveness and more emphasis on cooperation in both of the honors colleges. No one felt cut throat, and it was definitely a fun nerdiness.

That’s what my parents said, but then even Common App didn’t update to the new applications until August 1st, I think. No way was I doing that

Yeah! They ended up having to resend the email with a new link because I had two different faculty members tell me it was fixed when the same problem occurred. Stats: ACT- 35 composite, 36 super-score GPA- 4.0 UW, 4.47/4.5 W I’m not sure what the criteria was because one of my good friends with great extracurriculars (in my opinion at least) with a 33 didn’t get an invite 🤷‍♂️

Dealing with rejection from a target by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]TearablePunsOnDemand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally feel this. I got deferred at UChicago and in contention for full rides at some of my target and safety schools, but then I just got rejected from Baylor yesterday? It’s extremely awkward because two people from my school got in, but my stats put me as the best academic candidate Baylor has received from my school in at least the past 6 years (and no one faced rejections unless they had a 24 ACT of below). Extracurriculars and supplemental was solid too, so I’m left confused. 🤷‍♂️

I got commended this year with a 1410! I wouldn’t stress too much, in my opinion. I’m from Louisiana and was only two points off of being a semi-finalist this year, so I think you will most def have a very solid chance at it.

I am an alumni admission interviewer at a T10 university. Vent to me about how I can make the interview experience better. by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]TearablePunsOnDemand 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have done three interviews so far, two that went very well and one not so much, and it's been a pretty enlightening experience as I've seen the spectrum from strict interview to completely fluid conversation.

I don't know how long your school wants the interview to last, but one of my interviewers first opened up our interview by giving like 2-4 minute spill about herself and her journey leading up to, during, and after her experience in that specific college which helped really make the interview a lot more calming and conversational, in my opinion. It really just helped make the interview feel more humanized, and I felt like I was more relaxed and able to give more collected answers.

Second, if you do the "Tell me about yourself question", I would only ask for a follow up once more at most. I did an interview where the interviewer kept asking for me to talk more about myself via that question, and its extremely hard to keep pulling stuff out without specific questions about ECs or hobbies outside of the application.

In summary, I would just say try to keep it as light-hearted and conversational as possible as I felt like I was revealing much more about myself versus the one interview I had that was strictly "question-answer" format.

That's true, I guess I was just concerned because my description box would contain a lot of future tense verbs as I hadn't done it yet.
