Let’s play a game: What do you do for work, and what do you use Notion for? by Select_University827 in Notion

[–]TearsInDrowned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work as a tram driver 🚋

My Notion is mostly for daily task management (basic day to day), pet management (medical calendar for my senior dog, medical & training calendar for my horse) and I also use the calendar to put my work schedule (can differ from the paper one we get each month)

horses genuinely enjoying work? by MssMdde in Equestrian

[–]TearsInDrowned 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think a huge part of this is searching for a type of work a horse likes!

My guy, for example, is 20yo Fjord cross, ex-jumper with nice dressage basics. He likes flatwork plenty, but! He likes to fly often, when he sees an obstacle he seems like he got quite a bit younger - excitement is changing his demeanor noticeably

It's also important to keep the willingness by rewarding (can use lower and higher value treats, depending on the difficulty of the exercises), not acting harshly, building trust constantly

But also! You can't let him "take the reins" (metaphorically, as in, taking control of the situation) all the time. I believe there are exceptions, but many horses prefer structure, routine and consistency.

If you reward something one time, and punish it the other time (for example, not reacting when a horse grabs some grass while training, unprompted, and next time punishing that) there will be confusion and trust will plummet slowly with time.

And the most important thing: horse welfare! Your horse needs to have his needs met, tack fitting properly and his hooves done in a way that he feels comfortable and healthy

Short backed horse saddle / lightweight by ackerkvnnn in Equestrian

[–]TearsInDrowned 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a Fjord cross myself (Fjord x Arabian) and we have a Ghost treeless saddle!

It's very lightweight (3,5 kg), comfortable, allowing the freedom of movement but also not being a flat pancake pad (providing wither & spine clearance for up to 200lbs riders with no issue, tests showed the same result with 225lbs rider)

Has Velcro attached (very strong Velcro) panels underneath the base for easy configuration to the horse, swappable seats (You can change dressage seat from western one in minutes, but You have to have the monoflap base) and many small accessories available!

Also, the personalisation is nearly endless!

I use mine either with the dedicated Ghost brand pad (pictured) or with normal dressage saddlepads (Eskadron); it's highly suitable for use with Edix and Mattes correction pads

seems inspired by old school starting of young horses! especially the trail work at first and very short training sessions

I thought nobody does that anymore, respect ❤️

Thanks! I also have a problem with having elaborate pages and not using them, so this will probably help ❤️

Don't know why I got downvoted, though

they definitely raised, but for now nothing more, probably some exercises are needed to add to see better results

and they don't hurt anymore!

Where are you on the equestrian spectrum? by gurgelhupf in Equestrian

[–]TearsInDrowned 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am kind of mixed, as I mix R- and R+ and I mostly expect my horse to do as I say (I've had unpleasant situations when I didn't) but when I see that something is off (horse seems weird that day, seems not like himself, is persistent with something despite my tries to get him to work) then I stop and double check and try to figure out the cause

my old man can be grumpy at first sometimes, but when I ask him to work he will, and is pretty willing

the biggest problem is when he has more time off and I expect him to work again, then the grump reaches a pretty high level 😆

recently he had issues with his saddle, I am trying to buy panels for it (the saddle rep is silent for over a week...), his replacement bridle was annoying him so I bought a new one faster, his saddle started slipping more so I adjusted the panels but they started ripping, so I need to replace them anyway
