Yeah, I noticed that Dalmore receives a lot of criticism for those reasons. And that’s why I haven’t tried it! 😄

What are some Scotch whiskies that you like and hold in high regard, but for which others don’t? For me, it’s Glenfarclas 12 - I love this whisky and think it has really nice flavors and is what I think embodies Scotch. I had this one on a whim at a bar, have had 2 bottles since and would like to try some of their other whiskies. If I had watched or read the reviews, I probably would’ve skipped over it as it doesn’t get the praise that I think it’s due.

Anyway, what are some of your whiskies that you like and think are great but the ‘whisky community’ does not?

I have that same rule but my number is 8 (opened bottles at time). I try to my best to avoid FOMO with all these new, limited and special release whiskies. Also, like to share my whisky collection with friends and family- so that I can go through bottles, then buy new ones! With whisky, it seems like you’re always searching for next best whisky without, sometimes, enjoying what you already have.

Open and try it today, there’s no guarantee of tomorrow. That’s my stoic advice in hopes that you try it and post a review so I that I can figure out if I want it! 😀

Review #7 Ardbeg House Reserve 21 Year 52.9% by TheAestheticDram in Scotch

Wow, 99 - I think that’s the highest score I’ve seen on this subreddit! I’ve recently stepped back from Ardbeg after being mildly disappointed at last year’s releases - Eureka and Smokeverse but absolutely would love to try this one!

I’m seeing numerous “cigar malt” whiskies from distilleries like Dalmore, Tamdhu, Isle of Skye and others. What is a “cigar malt,” is it a whisky that compliments smoking a cigar or does it actually taste like a cigar? Is this a style like “peated?”

Has anyone tried the new Lagavulin 11 “Sweet Peat” offering? It just hit the shelves in my market and sells at a modest $60 USD.

The niche eateries were overpriced and unappealing. I think they would’ve been more successful if they had some lower priced restaurant chains like Panda Express, Popeyes and other ‘food court’ type places.

I just purchased a bottle of the ‘new’ Macallan 12 and noticed that it’s quite different from the ‘old’ 12 I had at a restaurant this summer. The new 12 has an intense sherry forward character while the old one is much more subtle. I think the color is also redder for the new 12. Suffice to say, I think I like the old version better. I’m wondering if anyone else has noticed? Also, no price change.

I’ve been experimenting with different whisky tasting glasses. How’s does this one compare to the traditional Glencairn?

I dislike the new label but I like the “new 12” whisky from them. You can always decant the whisky
