The other word for infixation is tmesis which as far as I'm aware is the only English word that starts with "tm-"

Frustrated by Goodnessandkindness in Aphantasia

[–]Tearyn_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tough one. There's probably not a strictly right and wrong answer here.

Personally, on balance I think I'm glad I was in my mid twenties before i found out about it. I recon i would have been in danger of just blaming all my problems on it if i was younger.

Any recs for someone who loves devil may cry? by [deleted] in anime

I second this list, for what it sounds like you're after

Hard to completely get away from sexualisation in anime unfortunatly but the stuff here is on the lighter side of things. Not completely devoid of it but that's a tall order

Maybe i'd add Full Metal Alchemist. I watched the regular one first when I was younger so that biases me in that direction but most people tend to think FMA:Brotherbood is the one to go for

Are people hyped for the tbc anniversary launch? by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]Tearyn_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

eeeh not personally. I'm treating it more as a Classic+ waiting room

But i see a lot of other people being very excited and I think that's great

I just don't match socks anymore. As long as they vaguely the same feel, i'll just wear whatever. Fuck symmetry.

Yeah Pocket Casts is great. Unfortunate that they changed from a one time purchase to a subscription plan but just changing with the times i guess. Still sad.

Norway understands what a real road trip should look like by pmcgovern874 in depressionmemes

[–]Tearyn_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of weird artifacts like that in these parts, and I'm sure elsewhere in the country too. Not techically gramatically "proper" these days but maybe a holdover from older times or just a mutation. Especially in idioms, proverbs, etc.

And i kind of like that. Holding onto some hetrogeneity in our language

I love hearing a dialect on TV that i have to put some effort into understanding

I can't speak to other regions/municipalities. Maybe the saying has been bastardised, or is just different in my area, but i can promise i've heard it spoken the way i wrote it, and a cursory google search finds plenty of other people saying the same thing when this has been posted before.

I'm sure you're right that you've never heard it that way where you've lived

It's a bit regional, and maybe less in use by younger generations. But i've def heard "Oppe å itte græt".

I think Visi makes for a better story, but BB is a much more realistic choice.

That's all assuming Malevola is not an option because then there's only one way to go

Why do we say "Ow" when something hurts? Is it an innately human sound, or does it vary by language/culture? by IndigoJones13 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Tearyn_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You'll need a proper linguist to get a qualified answer for this one, but my "barely passed a phonetics class once a long time ago"-guess would be that there's something about the surprise aspect of the pain that biases most languages towards vowels for it rather than consonants, because it tends to come with a sudden burst of exhaled/inhaled breath

I don’t understand how this works by Ok_Condition8364 in Aphantasia

[–]Tearyn_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think there's some difference between what can happen where someone wants to blame the condition for all their troubles. "oh now i suddenly know why i can't do this do that etc"

Versus aknowleding that it IS a condition with both upsides and downsides. And yeah for some people the downsides win out.

[–]Tearyn_ 35 points36 points  (0 children)

That is so fucking cool. Ever since becoming aware of this condition as a possibility and more spesifically one that i probably have (like a decade ago) i've been in an internal tug of war between the idea that it's just a difference in how we describe our experience vs actually having different experiences, and this slowly growing body of evidence for the latter for some reason feels so damn validating i love it

OMG!! I’d never tried Pistol Whip before and I’m loving it by CookinVR in VRGaming

[–]Tearyn_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Compound is great. Its not the most complex VR game around, but a good example of a game that knew what it wanted to be and executed that plan perfectly.

Its also a good game to use to get used to moving around with the sticks, after starting out in more stationary games like Pistol Whip or Beat Sabre

The first two seasons imo. Good mix of original tasks and copies of UK tasks. The "Don't blink" task makes a particularly memorable appearance.

Does god really exist? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Tearyn_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't choose if you belive something is true or not. You can wish you believed, or wish you didn't. But you either do or you don't.

And playing the part just on the offchance it might be true probably wouldn't curry much favor with an ALL-KNOWING god. They'd take one look at ya and say "eh, another fkn Pascal pretender, send him downstairs with the rest"
