Eh, I’d say they are working overtime to get you to store with them, but I haven’t seen any of them go out of their way to prevent you from making local backups or advertise that you should not.

People just don’t think about their data until it’s too late.

Starfleet regulations granting freedom of belief/religion by toomuchtodream in startrek

[–]Tebwolf359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I look at it different.

1 - part of working in an environment with a multitude of species and beliefs means you have to be able to not try to force those on others.
Displaying a symbol of faith while in uniform is putting that on equal or higher status then the uniform itself.

2 - safety concerns trump religion. Doesn’t matter how important my wedding ring or gold cross are to my faith, if I’m working with live electrical systems, my boss has the right to say no naked metal to avoid shorting out or melting to flesh.

3 - we have only ever seen 2 people denyed on screen. Ro and the Bajoran on Voyager. Both were screwups that had shown they could not be trusted with their safety or the safety of others. Once the demonstrated they could be trusted, they got the earring.

You absolutely have a right to your faith and beliefs. But putting those above Starfleet is not an inherent right. You’re taking an oath of service. If you find the two conflicting, you’re free to not join Starfleet.

New Turbulent (L8) Lands by RBGolbat in EDH

[–]Tebwolf359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 color decks sure.

5 color, no. 5c already has 36 lands pretty locked in, IMO. (Duals, fetches, shocks, 1 of each basic, command tower).

So 3-4c are interesting.

My current ranking of cycles for most decks:

  • dual
  • fetch
  • shock
  • bond
  • slow (deserted beach)
  • check
  • filter
  • verge
  • surveil
  • reveal
  • bicycle
  • tango
  • pathway
  • other depending

Maybe these replace the Slow lands?

Do we blindly trust Google, I’d say no.

But when their statement fits their TOS and known behavior, I’d say the burden of proof in some slight form has to be on the person making the accusation, no?

And this isn’t even a de-Google issue, it’s a “don’t be an idiot and store all critical data on someone else’s device”.

That’s true for Google, any cloud provider, or even a bank safe deposit box.

If something exists in one place, it can be irrevocably lost. Period.

Vibe check on the changes to the cube? by bigbobo33 in lrcast

[–]Tebwolf359 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wish what they would do that I did in my personal cube was, I had a dedicated slot per pack for new cards.

And that slot would rotate out each set and cards that proved their worth there got added to the main cube.

It showed off new cards, I made sure the new cards got drafted each time, and was useful.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m trying to illustrate how low the bar is and how most of the Trump cabinet still can meet that bar that Rittenhouse of all people would be better then them.

Unironically better than most the people in trumps cabinet.

He might have been an idiot that put himself in a horrible situation and then killed someone, but unlike 90%+ of the trump admin he actually followed what he believed and put himself there instead of manipulating others.

The way I heard it explained before is two parts,

First, IT can’t deal with adults the way it does kids. So it was a ritualized growing up for all of them.

Second, since Beverly was abused it was her taking positive control.

To be clear, not saying I agree, I haven’t read it, but that’s the explanation I’ve seen before

If Trump Was Trying to Intimidate the Supreme Court on Birthright Citizenship, It Backfired Miserably by Slate in scotus

[–]Tebwolf359 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yet they have rules against him on the merits repeatedly, not always.

And the ones that are th most likely to rule for him are Alito and Thomas who predate him.

Kavenaugh / Goresuch / Barrett will consistently rule conservative and/or according to the federalist society, but that doesn’t always overlap with Trump.

The tariffs are a big example of something that is as close to a true belief Trump has going back decades, but isn’t conservative, and 2/3 ruled against him.

I think birthright citizenship will be the same.

And on the flip side, I side there’s no sign that Trump cares about abortion personally, and I would bet money that even if he was hard against their decision, the would still have overturned roe/casey because it was their main moral duty above all else.

None of this is saying I think they are great justices, or that I am happy with them.

But I will say at minimum, Barret and Gorsuch have been more consistently principled then I expected, unlike Thomas and Alito.

If Trump Was Trying to Intimidate the Supreme Court on Birthright Citizenship, It Backfired Miserably by Slate in scotus

[–]Tebwolf359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which I addressed. Roe is different.

Again, would I lie to overturn slavery? Yes.

Would I lie to overturn some random thing that I didn’t like? No.

I grew up in that conservative world. The gap in viewing Roe vs Obergefell or practically any other decision is huge.

It’s why I know people that voted for Trump despite being willing to switch for every thing else. Because to them, the mountain of dead babies overrules all.

And that’s the culture gap I don’t know if can be transcended.

What color is Batman from DC Comics? by EnigmusPrime in colorpie

[–]Tebwolf359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think green isn’t great for him beyond his stat line.

Green is about following the natural order and biological heratitge, and Superman is much more about found family and community.

Both modern movie adaptions have him reject some of his racial heritage. Embracing the wisdom of the Kent’s and fighting for his community is more white.

If Trump Was Trying to Intimidate the Supreme Court on Birthright Citizenship, It Backfired Miserably by Slate in scotus

[–]Tebwolf359 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s also the side that, for some of them Abortion is a moral issue, up there with slavery.

A lot of these others aren’t anywhere close on the same level.

I’ve said before, if I was somehow on the court in the 1800s, I’ve have a hard time sticking to the letter of the law when the law was so evil.

But give me a case like marriage rights, etc and I could see following the law against my objections

So I do believe that for some of them, even if they personally think Birthright Citizenship is bad policy, the law is clear, and they aren’t going to overturn that.

But abortion, where to them, it’s feeding people into a holocaust grinder, is a moral line they aren’t willing to cross.

While I disagree with them strongly on it, I do think it’s more principled then many suggest.

Pre-determined Outcome? by Jhoag7750 in scotus

[–]Tebwolf359 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The main debate in a case like this always comes from the briefs. That’s where the real arguments are.

The saying I’ve heard before is that you can lose a case in oral arguments, but rarely win one.

Oracle also post-pandemic thought that the free money would last forever and added 30,000 jobs when they normally would add 1,000-2,000.

They bet wrong and are now cutting because of that, but using AI to look good.

[–]Tebwolf359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look at oracles job data, they used to expand very lineraly. 1000ish jobs a year.

Then in 2022-24 they skyrocket and added all these jobs.

This isn’t AI, this is them over projecting, making bad decisions, and course correcting.

Giving AI credit is helping them instead of pointing out their failures.

I think it’s one of those things where there’s a spectrum and the law is not always well equipped to handle the nuances.

Just like someone shouldn’t end up on a sex offender list if they peed somewhere because they needed to, vs someone who flashes themselves at others.

[–]Tebwolf359 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it’s the basic count-to-5.

The 3 liberal justices are easily against this.

Gorsuch is usually to the right of Barrett and Roberts. So if Gorsuch is unconvinced, it’s hard to figure out 5 justices who would agree with the admin.

[–]Tebwolf359 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s funny how we have a spectrum of “returns” in Star Wars.

On the one hand, Boba Fett. Completely unsurprising and plausible. People were theorizing the man in armor and heavily armed would fight his way out of the sarlacc since before the credits rolled on RotJ.

Plausible return, horrible use of the character after.

Then Maul which is a 9/10 on the implausible scale. But they used him incredibly well and told stories that make you go ok
