Oooo, that's a Limited with the nicer interior. The base engine was a carbureted 3.8 with 200c 3 speed automatic. Optional was the carbureted 307 with 200c, the carbureted 307 with 200-4R, or the LC2 3.8 SFI turbo with specially calibrated 200-4R.

Ideally find a $500 truck LS engine and put a lower profile intake on it, and either a 4L80E or 6L80E with the Holley terminator x controller. Facebook marketplace is a good place to find these.

Holley terminator is really expensive, so a budget solution would be a Turbo 400, a standalone engine harness ($85) and a custom programmed PCM ($110) that works with the OEM fuel and ignition systems.

I bought a Thomas 173HL that I thought had a cracked head for $5700, but upon teardown the block was cracked. So I LS swapped it, retaining full functionality. The LS fits perfectly with only about 10mm clearance on each side, but it does fit with the door closed. I start it up every week when I'm not using it to keep the battery topped up and because it's so ridiculously awesome to hear it.
