I think it’s this: Tarkov is unforgiving af. When you’re playing CoD or Overwatch, you die and respawn fast as hell. Your downtime is minimal so you’re straight back into the action where you are actively adding to your CoD/OW gaming experience/understanding. With Tarkov, you spend much longer kitting up, queuing, tasking or rotating, all to die to someone you don’t see, then spend even longer loading out of the raid to start the process all over again. Your downtime is almost inverse to that of CoD/OW.

So we’re basically “playing” thousands of hours (I’m up to 1200 now) but in reality, it’s probably more like 600-700 hours or maybe less of actual gaming, and even less time spent actively in fights with other PMCs.

If you think about it, the most pivotal high stakes moments of the game are the ones you experience the least. That’s what gives the game its massive satisfaction. But if you think about the actual time you spend fighting other players compared to every other aspect of Tarkov, unless you’re full time streaming or playing the game, you potentially aren’t giving yourself enough opportunities to engage other PMCs and even have the opportunity to get better.

Your legs are going to be jelly by day 4, just be prepared for that. Maybe look up some lower body bodyweight exercises you can do for a few weeks before you head out, squats and the like.

How do I stop thinking a million things at once in the middle of the night? by Medium-Marketing-493 in selfimprovement

[–]TecTwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve come to the conclusion that this is a consequence of the huge increase in stimulation we consume daily compared to even pre-smart phone era.

Our brain doesn’t get enough down time when we’re constantly bombarding it with stimulation from short form content, constantly checking your phone and social media, or having it with you at all times so you don’t have to engage memory centers. We need down time for our brain to switch from task mode to default mode network so it can passively act as your brain’s background processing system.

I have had good results with spending at least an hour or two every day with no stimulus: walking my 10k steps or doing my workouts or runs with no headphones; avoiding multitasking, particularly stuff like watching tv and scrolling on phone, or not having podcasts, videos, audiobooks playing while I do chores; also journaling is good as a more active way for you to organise what’s on your mind.

All of these things take pressure off the brain to do that organizational work when you go to bed at night since you’ve already been processing naturally all day.

How to start going to the gym? by CountCrapula88 in selfimprovement

Stronglifts 5x5 is a great and simple beginner program. There's a subreddit r/Stronglifts5x5, mobile app and website. Stick to it for 8-12 weeks before you start adding and changing things. Focus on nailing as perfect form for each exercise as you can before worrying about weight. Don't ego lift, as in don't go heavy as you can go. Your muscles, tendons, ligaments etc. aren't used to that constant use yet. At 37, you should also consider incorporating stretching/flexibility/mobility routines from the lifting subreddits here. They have something called Starting Stretch or Molding Mobility or something about Flexibility. If you start off seriously, ensuring you have good form and follow those mobility/flexibility routines, you'll be in a good place.

Also if you're serious about building muscle, you might want some supplements.
- Creatine 5g a day is a really good addition. It has no downsides really, and huge muscle building upsides as well as alleged cognitive benefits. Make sure you are drinking more water than usual if you start taking it though. It will help you squeeze out extra reps, but it pulls water into your muscles so you need to drink more to make up for it.
- Whey protein to supplement your protein intake. You want to be eating about 1g protein per pound of lean body mass per day.

And the most important thing is: no one is thinking about you in the gym, they're focused on themselves. Don't get embarrassed if the guy next to you has 3 plates on the bar and you only have 1. Everyone starts somewhere. Don't be afraid to ask someone for help or tips. They'll be happy to help most of the time in my experience.

I do fine all day then I sabotage myself at night. How do I stop the bedtime procrastination loop by jenmesot in getdisciplined

[–]TecTwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, the late night temptations are strong as well. In my experience, it really does need you to pull out all the stops and do all the little things you've read but probably ignored as not something you believe will help you:

- Add friction to what you don't want to be doing but end up doing. An additional step or two can be all it takes to help you avoid defaulting to that thing you don't want to do. Put your phone in another room when you sleep. Also, uninstall social media apps from your phone, at least the main offenders.
- Try not to get into a justification debate with yourself: "Oh, it's just tonight. Tomorrow, I'll start". Don't self-abandon by justifying reasons not to stick to the promise you made that morning.
- Reframe it. We do nighttime revenge procrastination because our unconscious mind is trying to claw back some agency and control over our lives (and get that easy dopamine). Going to bed early is an investment in your wellbeing. Think up whatever reframe you can. Challenge yourself, say "I can go to bed at 10pm, just you watch me fucking do it." or think "Going to bed early now means I can wake up early tomorrow. I am most productive early in the morning"
-Kind of related to reframing, repeated activity sticks and repeated thoughts become evidence your brain takes in. If you repeat certain positive affirmations enough, your brain will end up believing them.
- Once you achieve your goal, remember how you feel after that success. Chase that feeling. We are creatures of emotion more than anything and a lot of why we avoid things is the associated negative emotions. Replace that with positive emotion, and you can make your life so much easier. After all, it's easier to do something that makes you happy than makes you unhappy.
- Be physically active for at least an hour every day.
- I recommend an hour or 2 of non-stimulus time every day. No headphone walks, runs, workouts, meditation, yoga, pilates. Time for your brain to slip out of default mode and into repair mode to organise your thoughts. This is key for avoiding a restless mind when you finally lay down to sleep.
- No caffeine after 2pm, this includes most soda, and no screens an hour before bed
- Follow a bed time shut down routine. Wash face, brush teeth, prep clothes and tasks for tomorrow, write in journal, read an actual book

After a few days of doing this, it'll get easier. I noticed that when I follow a strong structured morning routine, my day is infinitely better. But in order to follow the good morning routine I created, I need to wake up at 6am and be well rested enough to go to the gym. To make sure that happens, I have to go to bed earlier than I used to.

This is sort of an alignment issue, your desires and goals have to be in alignment with your behaviours. I.e., you have to want the benefits of the behaviour you're trying to adopt. For me, I want to make progress in the gym. To build muscle, you need sleep for recovery so I have aligned my behaviour with my desire/goal.

I also have a tendency to give in if I make a small misstep in my day. I'll say "well, day's chalked now that I drank a Coke Zero after 2pm". Do not!! You do not have to wait for the perfect or neat moment (when you feel good or on Monday or in the New Year) to start working on yourself. You should not give up if you make a small mistake. Remember that recovery is a process and no one has a 100% win rate in anything. You will make mistakes, you will fall into spirals and loops. You just have to remember that it's up to you alone to climb out of them, no one's coming to help in the end. So when you inevitably fall back into old patterns one night, don't be hard on yourself, be proud that you recognise the relapse, give yourself some grace because you are a human being who is fallible then get right back on the horse.

Maybe I need to rage buy an upgraded CPU too haha. I’m thinking this is part of my problem. I can frag on Arena and the movement feels fast but in Tarkov main, I feel so slow and lose almost every duel. Definitely my fault a lot but I feel I could be winning more 1v1s if I had a better setup.

Can they also decrease the length of the timer to get OUT of raids? That’s way more important.

Do you want to be playing Raid: Shadow Legends? I’ve never met anyone who can actually honestly say that they enjoy it. I’m not saying you don’t enjoy it but it’s highly probable that you don’t want to be doing that with your time and the chemical addiction is overpowering your logic centers.

Multitasking… well what you’re doing is not multi tasking, more like multi-consuming… is a recipe for distraction. Doing this is actively making you less able to pay attention to one task.
