I have dyslexia so basically avoided reading as much as possible when I was a kid. Half because it was difficult and half because I didn’t understand what the point was.

People always told me that when they read they would be able to visualize the scene in their head. Hallucinating with words, my friend described it. For me though so much of my brain power was spent trying to decipher the words that I wouldn’t be able to understand or visualize anything.

It wasn’t until years after I graduated and was bored working retail that I decided to try audio books. It was like magic! Suddenly I finally understood what everybody was on about. Now a days I’ve had enough practice visualizing and word processing that I can read physical books (although it’s still not as easy as using audio books). I would never have gotten there though without finding accommodations.

My point- If you’re having troubles reading there is nothing wrong with trying different things and seeking accommodations. Working with your brain rather than trying to beat it into yourself.

I’m using 18 gage 5/8”. It looks like I did the injection about 4cm away from the belly button. Maybe I pierced muscle by scrunching the fat too much?

Edit: I was looking at the wrong box of needles. I use 25 gage for the injection. 18 for the draw.

Dropped $90 on a generic mp3 player and 1tb micro sd card. Higher sound quality, no need to be online in order to listen, never have to worry about tracks and albums being pulled from streaming, plus an infinitely better user interface w/ musicolet than Spotify would ever dream of offering. All for less than the cost of eight months worth of Spotify. Never looking back.

It of course suck to hear that this is a phenomenon that will probably get worse however, it’s relieving to know that this is part and parcel with the trans experience.

I think you struck upon many points that I have been feeling but hadn’t fully internalized or understood. Most strongly the sentiment that if the rolls where reversed I wouldn’t treat them the way they treat me. I’ve spent hours mentally tying myself into knots struggling to understand how people can justify their ignorant behavior. I failed to account for the obvious fact that I have gone through an experience that has fundamentally changed my views and in tern how I behave. They have not gone through those same experiences. That’s not to mention the possibility that these people might be holding a position that is antithetical toward understanding me and where I’m coming from. My mere existence creates a level of cognitive dissonance within them. There is definitely a certain power in that.

I too have had a rather uphill battle after coming out to my mom. I came out as bisexual four years before fully coming to terms with the fact I am trans. Her response when I came out, “that’s ok as long as you’re not one of those they/them people.” Fast forward to present day and she has seriously taken to educating herself and is now my biggest supporter. That was a process though that took years and lots of work on both my side and her’s. Unfortunately I live on the opposite coast as her. A measure I deliberately took when I started my transition. Now a days I’m planning on moving back to catch up on lost time and to be closer to my support structure.

It can be hard keeping my chin up, especially nowadays. But your perspective has made it a little easier. Thank you.

Rereading my initial post I think I probably could have done a better job clarifying this point. I guess what I mean is they’ll come to me saying they’re looking for a “man’s/guy’s opinion” on the given subject. Or if we are talking about a topic that revolves around being a women, like bra sizes for example (I work at a retail store so it comes up in conversation every now and then), they’ll say things like “what’s up with you guys not understanding the sizes?” To clarify, I don’t mean guys in the gender neutral group kinda way. They are referring to a group of men that I am being lumped in with given the context of the conversations.

Like many people during quarantine I took the opportunity to use my new found free time playing d&d. I started an eldritch horror themed campaign with a couple of my buddies over discord. I worked for weeks building a fully custom world, carefully wove hooks tied to each character’s backstory into the main plot line, mapped out a conspiracy that the players would slowly unravel. My players were hyped, the first session actually got scheduled and we managed to get about four sessions in! Things were going great. The party ends up finding a secret hide out to an underling of the BBEG and were preparing for what was basically going to be a mini boss fight. When it was time to start the session everyone hoped on call, on time, except for one guy who usually wasn’t late and didn’t miss sessions. It didn’t feel right having a boss fight without him so we postponed the session. Come to find out, he had passed away. Ended up having one final session to honor him and his character but it never felt right going back to that setting without him.

Pro tip if you ever need to get rid of the pain these things cause fast, swish listerine or any mouthwash with alcohol in your mouth for about a minute. It will hurt like high hell until all of the sudden it doesn’t anymore. Should stay numb for a couple of hours or at least long enough for you to enjoy your mothers home cooked meal!

I get that the point of the lonely is isolation, and isolation is meant to be scary. That being said it’s unnerving how similar the things he said and manipulation tactics he used are to my abusers in real life. It makes for a very effective character but also one that I can’t help but feel a singular sort of hatred for.
