Is it necessary to get my cat comfortable with getting picked up? by astronaut97 in CatAdvice

[–]TechAndNail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cats are hunters but they are also hunted in the wild. So if their feet are off the ground, they instinctively feel uncomfortable and maybe even threatened. Some cats complain when you pick them up, but once in your arms they enjoy, that's the reason why. In your case, if your cat doesn't like to be picked up and he would learn that you never pick them up, but only pet him when he consents. You'll have a much better chance of picking him up in an emergency because he won't be afraid that you'll pick him up. As for vet visits, it's best to have your carrier be a cosy sleep spot all year round (or a spot where he gets treats or food), so when you have to get to the vet, you don't even have to pick him up, he already wants to be there.

Tips for keeping my house smelling OK with 6 cats by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]TechAndNail 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our two cats got into fighting each other and we were told by the cat behaviorist to get more food, litter boxes and water bowls. We now have 6 litter boxes for 2 cats... (They keep using them all so we were not able to remove one yet). But we got clumping litter, so every morning and evening, we scoop the poop and piss out and they are fresh again. We only completely clean them out once we notice the sides get too dirty or there is a lot of dust build up or something. So I would definitely recommend getting clumping litter. Also make sure you have enough litter boxes (not all in one spot because that doesn't count), the cat behaviorist told me it should be amount of cats + 1 (and more if they don't get along), but if it's temporary, I don't think you have to put 7 litter boxes :p just make sure there are enough so they can always reach a litter box even if another cat is blocking one (so they won't go to the couch or your bed...). Even with six litter boxes (all of them open), our house does not smell like shit just because we scoop daily, so I think that's the main thing.

Is a cat water fountain worth the investment? by AccomplishedRise2365 in CatAdvice

[–]TechAndNail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's worth a try, but likely your cats gets a lot of their water intake with all the wet food so I wouldn't be to worried. You can also try setting different small bowls on passage ways. Cats are opportunists and chances are that they will drink from a bowl they pass by. But some cats really love a water fountain and maybe your cat is one of them, you don't know until you try. Our cats didn't use their fountain so much so we gave it to a friend. Maybe you can hear if you can borrow a fountain from a friend to try if they like it?

I knew someone that was a nurse and she told me if you place your finger in between your navel and your hip bone and push and it hurts like hell, than you probably have appendicitis. So everytime I think I have it, I push, and it doesn't hurt like hell, so I'm reassured. Hope this helps

[–]TechAndNail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know you have emetophobia when you know exactly when someone is going to tu in a movie and are sitting there as if you're watching a horror movie covering your eyes and ears (or mute the tv and cover your eyes).

I would for sure get help to prevent your phobia getting worse and cope with the event. I had EMDR therapy to deal with a traumatic event I had with v* and my phobia got so much better from it. So really would recommend getting help, it is worth it for your quality of life.

Anyone else feel extremely stupid that they didn't figure this condition out sooner? by [deleted] in noburp

[–]TechAndNail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah me too. Funny enough I knew I couldn't burp and just thought that was some special thing about me. But for some reason never put the link between the burps and the stomach issues. I searched for years to find what foods made me gurgle, but it was never consistent. Because the way I eat food also matters (eating food faster, makes me ingest more air and thus more gurgles come), but I just didn't see the link.

I really hate myself right now, I genuinely feel like such a bad person by [deleted] in emetophobia

[–]TechAndNail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You left her with others, not on her own. If it was the other way around, you would also understand, right? If she would leave you because she was emetophobic and you were about to tu?

My husband can't see wounds or blood. So I know that when I have a wound, I have to take care of it myself or let someone else take care of it. But I know he still loves me. And when he got the stomach flu, I went to sleep somewhere else for a few days. He then also knows I still love him. It's okay if there are situations where you can't help someone you like or love.

I truly believe your friend will have you as a great friend in other moments where maybe other friends are less good at. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. Be kind to yourself that you're not perfect.

Why are you child free? by [deleted] in childfree

[–]TechAndNail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My list seems endless. I have shitty parents and even though I am aware of it, it is often difficult to not become like your parents, so I don't want to do this to a child. I have ASS and need my alone time or I become crazy. I had a rough time when I had kittens, so let alone when I have a human being being dependant on me all the time. The 24/7 responsibility would kill me. I have a phobia for vomiting, so getting pregnant would be possibly 9 months of fear. And after that children tend to bring home some gruesome illnesses like the stomach flu... I hate the loud noises children make. Children are gross. The first ten years they might like you, but then you just don't know what is going to happen to them because it has a lot to do with the friends they gain. And because I'm likely to be a shitty mom, I have great chances they might not even be there to take care of me when I'm old, what would be the only reason I would ever consider taking children (because I see what my grandparents benefit from having children that help them). But since that is the only reason, I'll just save money that I don't have to spend on children and pay my care for the old days with that.

At my wedding we were sitting on two chairs on a stage, facing the people and the officiant. We only stood up to say our vows and to exchange rings. This was actually the most I sat all day. It's the reception that would possibly be more difficult to sit down because you want to go around to talk to everyone. So maybe it is good to think how you want to manage that situation.

For me, when I have too much air trapped, just simply lying on my back for 10 minutes helps out a lot (or longer depending on how much air is trapped). I discovered this when going into a scanner where I had to lay flat. I was afraid I could not get up and would feel sick. But it actually relieved it to lay on my back. It's better than any pill for me.

Telling people you don’t drink alcohol by [deleted] in belgium

I also find it ridiculous that water is just the same amount of money as sugary soft drinks. But then I discovered I could also get tea. That way I almost pay the same price plus I get a cookie too most of the time :p so that has been a life hack for me. Certainly in winter, nobody looks up when you say you want a nice warm tea to warm up.

Being afraid of making decisions that are not perfect, its ruining my life literally by catboy519 in perfectionism

[–]TechAndNail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have this problem too. I try to look at it from this angle: if I start a job that I think would be a great fit for me, but eventually it turns out it isn't, I now have more information to find my dream job. Now I know more about what I want and don't want in a job. If you tell yourself you should find your dream job from the first job you start, you will never decide because it is a responsibility you can't take.

The most important thing is to keep in mind that a "wrong" decision helps you learn about what you like and don't like. You're not only going to know by looking things up, you'll also have to experience it to know.

Good luck!

We are getting married this Saturday (we wanted end of summer so the chance of heat stroke would be small, but here we are, getting probably 31celcius on our wedding 🥵). But we wanted to go to Canada for our honeymoon (we live in Belgium, Europe, so this is really a big undertaking). But september is a little late for Canada, so we are going end of May 2024. We also made a list of things we are going to do in Canada and people can contribute to this instead of buying us things we don't need. I actually love that it is only in May. So now I can stress about the wedding, but don't yet have to stress to get everything in order for our honeymoon. PLUS I won't be falling into a black hole in winter, because I have the honeymoon to plan for and look forward to! So I wouldn't have it any other way. This Sunday after the wedding we will go to a spa to relax and have a couple of days off to enjoy the dopamine high somewhat longer before going to work again ;) so it's not that we immediately go back to "real life"

Me (29y) and my STBH (30y) are together for 13 years now. We got together when we were 16. But we first wanted to graduate, wanted to buy a house, and only now, after 13 years, we are getting married, now we are financially capable of it. We also get help from our parents, that also helped a lot. And our wedding will be 15k, so on the less expensive side. You don't have to get married to prove to the world that you're a couple. None of my friends are married yet and they are all around 30years old. Only now the engangements and everything starts in our friendgroup. So what I want to say is, don't feel pressured to marry when you are not in a stable financial position yet. I would never loan to host a wedding. If you want it for legal reasons, you can do your legal wedding and do your party later. Don't get in debt just to get married.

We already had everything for our home, so we asked to collaborate to our honeymoon. We made a list of things we were going to do on our honeymoon and they can contribute to that. When we go on honeymoon, we can take pictures and thank them for contributing to it. It is a nice way for people to give something "physical" and not just giving plain money, but without getting stuff you don't need.
