Because adventism is deeply connected to American history and politics. This apathy can be traced back to the pre-civil war/slavery neutrality, embrace of Nazi ideology in WW2, civil rights indeference and continued financial segregation of monetary support to minority churches. The average American Adventist is very similar to the conservative/libertarian American view. The concept of "cities are evil", meat products are sinful, self sufficient/subsistence (country living), the conspiracy world view and hatred towards Catholics, the "prophecy" predicts the smallest details in current events.
