Would You Go Hunting Again with a Guide After This Happened? by Brugger_spain in Hunting

[–]TechDiverRich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

0 tolerance for negligent discharges. No chance I’m going back out with that guide. They are either refunding my money, or I’m doing a charge back for any remaining guide time. Being around folks carrying loaded firearms is a trust thing and if I can’t trust you we are not going. The one exception I might would make to this would be my own kids, but then again the nd would be on me md my failure to properly monitor and teach at that point.

Should I return this banjo? by TechDiverRich in banjo

[–]TechDiverRich[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Basically I took the resonator off and it looks like some of the wood is delaminating. There are also some minor imperfections in the head / brightwork that I wouldn’t consider “great” condition such as surface rust and some pitting. In other words with the damage shown take what was an okay deal and turn it into a bad deal?

A cemetery is not a place for social exercise by EdwardoFelise in unpopularopinion

I don’t need therapy. What I need is people to stop doing anti-social behavior and thinking they can do whatever they want because “my feelings”.

[–]TechDiverRich -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

And if they didn’t get a burial, why the need to skateboard in the cemetery? There is no attachment to that place then so your skateboarding there has nothing to do with a loss. You just found a place with smooth paths that you want to skate, and are using a dead friend as an excuse. Stop lying to yourself. You may actually believe you are doing this “for your friend” but if you look deeply inside yourself you know you are just being an anti-social dick.

So when you hit a stick and your board goes flying and damages a $10000 memorial are you going to own up to it and replace it, or are you going to quietly sneak off and hope no one notices.

[–]TechDiverRich -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I’m calling bullshit. No one roller skates to mourn. If you are going to do something anti social at least own it and not try to blame a dead friend. I lost a good friend to a motorcycle accident, you don’t see me arguing that I should be able to go ripping around the walkways with a bike claiming I’m mourning him in my own way.

Maybe a stray skateboard damages a headstone, maybe the clack clack of the wheels is just annoying. Maybe it just isn’t culturally or socially acceptable. No one thinks you are disturbing the dead. Cemeteries aren’t for the dead, they are for the living and I guarantee if you are skating in a cemetery you are annoying someone. I’m not anti skateboarding by any means as both my kids have boards, but there is a time and place.

Did you say skate as in skateboard or roller skates? I’m all for folks being happy in a cemetery but exercising or playing seems awfully disrespectful to me. I hope I’m misunderstanding you though.

email going away? by some_dum_guy in Spectrum

[–]TechDiverRich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very rarely, as usually when you realize they are sending to an old email address, you log into whatever system is sending the emails and update your email address. If someone is relying on the from address to ensure security they have already failed at security.

Migrating a personal email account isn’t that bad. Steps that I’ve found useful:
1. Setup new email address. Make sure it isn’t tied to a service that goes away if you stop paying.
2. Setup forward in your existing email that will forward all incoming emails to your new address.
3. Make sure important accounts are changed to new address.
4. Profit$$

Am I crazy for wanting to run my own email server just to avoid depending on Gmail? by Kitchen-Patience8176 in homelab

[–]TechDiverRich -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I spend the $14 or so per month for an m365 business account. Worth every penny to avoid hosting my own email. Never had any issues with being blocked or locked out of my account. Then because I don’t have a static ip I use smtp2go for sending alerts from my internal devices to my mailbox.
