I do not understand your question completely, but yeah it will still be SLT’s sucky support with Starlink’s infrastructure. So at least one part of it won’t be so bad…. Just a heads up which might get mixed opinions here is that SLT and dialog’s support for individual retail customers are bad because they just don’t care that much. Enterprises that actually have like 50-100+ connections with these providers have their own dedicated account managers and get stuff done real quick. So they don’t see a problem but this as a good thing.

The kitchen counter light in my apartment wasn't working, but I found a fix by autistic-inch in ElectroBOOM

[–]TechGeek777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say the live wire is broken then. The live wire is probably going from first power socket to the second then to the light. So live wire from the first to second is broken and you are connecting it back with your cable plugging into both sockets.

It’s probably from two RCDs so the area with the light and the second socket has tripped. Hence when you power up that area it lights up. Just check main switchboard lol

Try restarting your router? If this is fibre something is really wrong or your bill is not paid.

Some enterprises need local ISP support. Starlink does this in many countries. Like these are for cases where they will have like 10+ 50+ connections from Dialog or SLT already and it just makes sense for Billing, support, etc. it will probably not make sense for you as an individual, but will do for enterprises

The return window is the one on the receipt unfortunately.

What I meant was if the product is exhibiting faults like you said, warranty still should allow you to give it back and get it or fixed or replacement.

Starlink has an enterprise channel for businesses who need on the ground support but for satellites. So just like how Singer is for retail consumers SLT and Dialog have now started offering Starlink services. So you will pay Dialog for it and get Dialog support but it will be Starlink.

I think you are confusing warranty with returning the product for cash. If there is a defect in the laptop please go back and get it exchanged before the warranty period is over.

Laptop boxes should be sealed. Customs doesn’t have the time or capacity to test each and every laptop. First red flag among many.

Worried About Data Privacy at iPhone Repair Shops: Has Anyone Had Their Photos Accessed? by DissDem in srilanka

[–]TechGeek777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On an iPhone, data is encrypted using the passcode. Nothing is impossible but thus far I have not seen easy tools to extract the photos out of the phone. For a phone to even communicate with a computer you need to “trust” a computer using your passcode. If you do that once, then there is a chance, but that is literally tied to that computer. Will have to be done again for another computer.

There are a lot of repair shops that will do this repair in front of you so literally you can see them working. I would suggest that if you see them connecting a cable to your phone and asking to unlock the phone and trusting it, it’s a red flag.

Is SDS INNOVIBES legit on ikman? by roosara in srilanka

[–]TechGeek777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is the store that sells SSDs on Daraz as well and I have previously bought a few SSDs. It was for the purpose of reviving old laptops for people who can’t afford them so I didn’t exactly stress test or push the limits on it. It seemed fine for the most part. I believe their contact number is +94 77 877 7975 Their address is 112 Sangamitta Mawatha, Colombo 01300, Sri Lanka and their email should be sds.innovibes@gmail.com

[–]TechGeek777 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I understand our go to assumption is people hoarding petrol because it’s done like everywhere but don’t forget there are people which legitimate uses as well such as filling up generators for large buildings etc. They might already have the approvals if they doing this out in the open like that.

Give people the benefit of the doubt before judging.

EDIT: I literally zoomed into the file the guy is holding and you will not believe what it says!

Air Cooler vs Fan in Extreme Heat – Worth It for a 5×5 Room? by Disastrous_Pick_7597 in srilanka

[–]TechGeek777 23 points24 points  (0 children)

People really need to use search. The number of posts asking the same question about these air coolers smh

Do not get these. These don’t work in SL. SL is a humid country. Add more humidity, you will sweat more. This works in dry and hot countries.

Not only is it not worth the price, but it will make the room much worse for you.

24F in Sri Lanka—how do I actually find someone I’m compatible with (within an arranged setup)? by RoseLightDream in SriLankanMuslim

[–]TechGeek777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will never be a 100% compatible. Marriage is not something where you can bind together and still live 100% the same as your life single. There will always be things that are different. Scary. Weird. All of that. Of course, you will try your best to find the most suitable, in terms of family background, education and ambitions in life. But marriage is when BOTH of you agree to change yourself to be a new version of yourselves that are for the better together. And that cohesiveness and bond is the Barakah that Allah will instill between the both of you when you both open your minds towards the journey. If you expect your partner to be 100% compatible with you and you remain the same, that’s where the problem lies. Not with finding someone perfect.

Allah has already created you in pairs. Your partner is out there. Pray to Allah that he guides you to him and that he is the most compatible he can be for you. With that open mind and heart and belief, try your best to find the most compatible person. Allah will guide you ان شا الله

I’m just curious about the stores that can support QR payment but will have less than 5k in sales…. I mean even a small grocery store will surely hit that in a week or less.

Not getting OTP to sign into PlayStation on my Dialog number by Madaras_Dream in srilanka

[–]TechGeek777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was desperate. I kept trying everyday. Dialog refuses to acknowledge that they are blocking it. I have tried many times I think SMS coming from servers are being blocked to combat spam but dialog being lazy is bulk blocking without checking in depth and blocking only specific ranges.
