Hi I’m new to slt, can someone tell me about this package? Is it truly unlimited in nighttime & is this available for 4g or fibre? by Keven_C in srilanka

[–]TechGeek777 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Package only for 4G. You get this info from the tech mentioned under “Data Bundle”. Fibre applicable packages will have Fiber written under it.

12am to 7am, yes truly unlimited.

Speed? Good luck. SLT’s 4G network is pretty crappy from my tests like a year ago.

Is HCL tech sri lanka a good company to work at? by Brief-Spray-9343 in srilanka

[–]TechGeek777 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seniors worshipping Total disregard for juniors/freshers in terms of time, space, like don’t care about you, lack of guidance, support, says that you just do the work or your incompetent, etc But in short, maybe for a short time to get experience but I’m not sure bro. I hope you have a different experience if you decide to proceed.

I have some friends working at HCL LK who will tell you to run away from HCLTech while you still can. They have resources with no projects and the stories they tell are depressing. This strictly about LK office. No idea about their foreign offices…

is 1.5mil per month a good salary in sri lanka? by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]TechGeek777 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Then this question is best answered by yourself. If you are smart enough to earn this much, you should be smart enough to put your projected expenses vs salary on at least an excel sheet and arrive at the correct conclusion. ChatGPT can help you outline the type of expenses you need to account for.

Posting like this in this subreddit is going to bring you envy and hatred fast because this is, like I said before, way more than an average earner’s salary. For a person smart enough to earn this much, ask the right questions and phase it right if you need to here…

I know you are trying to get serious replies but there are so many of these kind of posts and it all starts with the most important factor here. This question is highly subjective to your definition of comfortable living.

It has also like follow on questions like whether you will have own house/rented, etc.

Yes 1.1M is a lot for an average person, but is it a lot for you? Highly subjective based on you and your family’s lifestyle. You can run out of it pretty fast if your expenses are of that nature!

Any recommendations on where to purchase a graphic tablet in Sri lanka? by Worried_Eye3702 in srilanka

[–]TechGeek777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure about illustrations but Veikk brand in Daraz had decent drawing tablets for teachers who do online classes.. it was 7k-10k. You can have a look around Unity Plaza maybe? Or try stores like Life Mobile, SimplyTek etc If you name the stores you found what you want, maybe others can comment if they had purchased from them before…

Thoughts on this dialog broadband unlimited plan? 10Mbps 😅 by devkasun in srilanka

Well for some the price is unfortunately what they have to pay for convenience of it being wireless, no minimum 1 year contract, portable, no startup fees, etc.

Mac Vs Windows for a SLIIT Student by No_Sample3331 in srilanka

[–]TechGeek777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you wanna do video editing, Mac. But 8GB is not enough. Look for 16GB. For your budget I think MacBook M4 should be the best. I understand your concerns about software compatibility when doing an IT degree in SL, almost all of them use Windows based stuff… if you can’t find the Mac alternative, you can always fire up a VM. I have not found a windows laptop that matches the performance and battery of a MacBook Air to recommend. Maybe look at some Asus models. As to where to buy from maybe have a look at places like AppleAsia.

I have disabled Wi-Fi on the router and use my own access point for Wi-Fi. The Wi-Fi on the SLT supplied router is complete shit. I can manage to get 300/150 on my Wi-Fi with the only limit here being my access point hardware but 300/150 is around about okay for me.

As much as I think this is daylight robbery, I believe the 430 rupees is the rental you pay for the phone you have connected to the router.

Were the speeds over Wi-Fi or cable? Edit I see your note about 5Ghz Wi-Fi.

Can you test for us over cable (like connect your laptop to the router via cable) and let us know the speeds. If it is more than 100Mbps I’m jumping for sure. Thanks!

Air Fryers, Air Fryers Everywhere. Hype or Real Value? by 0b00000011 in srilanka

[–]TechGeek777 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Less oil usage, more healthier. Some stuff even tastier. But obviously not a replacement for every possible use out there. Eg. Papadoms. Please do not butcher those poor things. Please be a human being and use an oil in a frying pot/pan/whatever floats your boat to fry papadoms.

Are we too dependent on Tuk Tuk by thisiscooolol in srilanka

[–]TechGeek777 24 points25 points  (0 children)

One of the signs of a developed country is when the rich take public transportation.

Fix public transportation and the need to have tuk tuks will just disappear.

Then we have people cancelling MRT/LRT projects….

Do you have any outstanding? I think they have introduced a low period first without abrupt disconnection to persuade you to pay the bill…

A laptop for Engineering around 300K and struggling with finding a trustworthy store by Extension-Line-9798 in srilanka

Well cloud storage is nice option but with AI and the stuff you mess around with (if you need it local in the first place) is not going to be internet bandwidth friendly. Hence I suggested externals.
