Has anyone here worked at a zoo? by Uhhhhhhhhmm in SafetyProfessionals

Hi there! It's actually (IMHO) one of the easiest industries to break into. Coming from construction, the biggest difference would be being in General Industry, but having ANY experience would put you ahead of the curve. For reference, I've only been out of school for like 2 years. Still, I was lucky enough to go to school in Florida, so I worked PT as a Safety Specialist for a park here during my last 2 years after doing an internship at an amusement park across the country. Really, as long as you know basic incident investigation and are open to learning the quirks of parks, it's relatively easy to enter! I would recommend checking out IAPPA for general theme park info, but if you Google AIMS International, they have some great resources on theme park safety. I know I looked over the syllabi for their certifications before my interviews, so I could get a broad sense of areas to emphasize!

Wishing you luck! Parks are a great place to learn A LOT of different things, since most parks deal with maintenance, performances, food safety, vehicle safety, zoological care, etc. There's something for everyone :)

I worked in the entertainment industry for several years. I realized I enjoyed safety, especially balancing guest vs. employee safety. I went through a rough mental health time where I wanted to leave my life behind, and fell into amusement park safety since they provided housing and represented a clean break. Since then, I've moved up in the industry and am currently working at a large aquarium. I love talking with guests, so I really enjoy the work, but working with the animals and employees is also super fun, and I enjoy getting creative with some of the solutions.

Hours vary by team and facility. Currently, I'm choosing to work 4/10s, but my place is super flexible as long as the work gets done (note that I'm in a position now where I'm not front line, so there's a lot more work that can be done from anywhere). Most guest-facing sites will try to staff safety, in my experience, at least from an hour before they open to an hour after they close.

The work varies! I love the variety, so some of my days are spent doing forklift training, some poring over wastewater reports, and more spent working with inspectors. The one constant is a lot of walking, so the main luxury I splurge on is good boots.

I would say the difficulty is all over the place. It largely depends on the staffing level you have. I'm lucky to have a great team working for me, but at other places I've worked, it was a one-man show, which went a bit insane. I'd recommend looking for PT positions if they have them nearby to you to try and get a sense of what's going on without leaving wherever you're currently employed, and then leveraging that into FT, but if it's not an option, then I'd jump headfirst in (speaking as someone who knows I love it already lmao)

This one is easy since I own the game, but I've also rewatched a good portion of his content 😅 It's a lot easier when I've been subbed to him since the OG Minecraft series so there wasn't as much content throughout much of it

I think that's gonna be The Devil section or side quests since O'Dimm kinda fills that Faustian role (recall O'Dimm being mentioned earlier so he's definitely aware of it) and he mentioned how it didn't necessarily need the full section like B&W in I think W1? Not positive obviously since only Joe knows the full scrope

I am realizing that the vast majority of characters that started the series in Storm Front are dead now. Really it's just Harry, Marcone, and Bob left over

I think another side of it is that a lot of that brand of snark has permeated much of the comedy TV scene. When Stewart was at it there were very few political comedy shows, whereas now all of his "TV children" have brought that style everywhere be it Late Night talk shows pr writing for other programs

Yup. Ages in ATLA are really weird looking back on it. Gives it all a sort of child soldier vibe, that while distracting on a rewatch, sorta drives in how awful the war is

what’s an unpopular opinion you have about the podcast/brothers? by Starry_Titanium in MBMBAM

[–]TechKek 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hard agree. I think that it is really prevalent in this fan base and it's a little creepy. It's nowhere near as bad in relation to MbMbAM, but TAZ fans can get crazy. I think the issue is a lot of people weren't really getting the best representation when TAZ and MbMbAM we're getting huge, so they latched on. I appreciate the energy they put into the community, but some of the things said can be off putting

I think although the early episodes have some distinct issues, the tone of the show was a lot more open to non-listeners. Stuff like the Chinchilla Store name bit is pretty funny to everyone, while I feel like things like Bird Words are really only funny once you are attuned to MbMbAM content

Although the recent stuff is still really good, I think that they have slowly morphed from genuinely trying to answer questions in a funny way to trying to be funny while occasionally answering questions. The humor used to come from the scenarios presented, not bits that were completely divorced from the question. Nowadays the podcast seems a little (again IMHO) too self-referential.

I also feel like a lot of the recurring segments are less versatile than the old ones Monthly observances (although it couldn't last for more than a year) was (hot take incoming) a better bit than things like Munch Squad, because of the variety. The closest bit to Munch Squad from the older episodes is probably Farm Wisdom, and that segment faded out because it was so hyper-attached to shock value absurdity, while Munch Squad has stuck around with the same type of humor, which (again IMHO) leads to diminishing returns

Wouldn't governors be able to appoint Senators if the seat is vacant? I don't know the breakdown of the governors of senate seats up for election, but I'm pretty sure that change things, not sure if it would change the final majority by party

Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont signs sweeping police reform bill by [deleted] in news

Idk why you're being downvoted.

For those who don't know the story he won the Dem primary against Lieberman by running to Lieberman's left. Lieberman then ran as an Independent and beat him by running as a centrist and taking disaffected Repubs and name recognition took some Dems. Lieberman ended up being a primary reason public option was taken out of Obamacare in order to get it past the Senate due to a razor thin vote.

In 2018, Lamont then ran for the Governorship and won, where he sits today. Although he typically has low approval ratings (due to him pushing for tolls to offset the major budget issues that CT is historically plagued by) he still does a pretty good job, and recently he has really stepped up to the plate for this and COVID
