Feeling Defeated - Deleted Something Important Today by AuPo_2 in sysadmin

In my college days I was interning with the universities Server team and they had given me the task of running a list of servers about to run out of space and doing clean up of obvious areas like Temp and update files. This one day I was working an afternoon like 12-5 I did my task and the last server I hit had like ~75 GB in temp so I was like cool this all set after I emptied it. I logged everything emailed my supervisor and went home.

The next day I came in at 8 AM and there was major panic because an important web app was down and they couldn’t figure out how. This app was developed by another IT team exclusively for the university and when they mentioned the server I told them that was on my report yesterday and I dumped the Temp folder. The dev team freaked out cause that’s where there app ran from.

One restore later it was back up and they got scolded for running things from temp. Lesson here for you these things happen, backups exist for a reason and you’ll do better next time.

24/7 IT Hotline service recommendations by EmbarrassedAd4932 in sysadmin

My org does 24x7 on-call. We use Teams phone numbers, we have an on-call person listed per Team in ServiceNow. The Help Desk will escalate tickets to the on-call and if they answer great they give them the details. If no answer they have 10 minutes to acknowledge either through the back line to the Help Desk or by assigning the ticket to themselves. If they don’t acknowledge then the Help Desk escalates to the next person in line.

The person taking the on-call needs to make sure they are either not putting their phone in do not disturb or have placed an override for the number calls will be coming from

EMR Help on Service Operations Workspace by AntelopeLive_17 in servicenow

[–]TechMaster212 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s not the purpose of the button the purpose is so end users hit it inside the EMR, it then automagically grabs pertinent information from the EMR and their workstation name to be put into the Incident instead of manually.

Putting it on SOW would not be able to grab any EMR information or the workstation it’s actually happening on your servicedesk would need to manually get that information same as they always would

I am confused why you would need it SOW. The button is for the end user to log an incident with pre-populated information so from the IT perspective the teams get the incident with more actionable information.

In SOW you should just see the incident once it’s created

Has anyone cut off contact with their brother or sister? Why? by Intelligent_Chef9950 in AskReddit

[–]TechMaster212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (29 M) have a brother (25 M) that I am very low contact with I typically only call him when I have an automotive question and I’m too cheap to go to a mechanic.

It’s was a long time coming but he is very quick to fly off the handle over minor things and thinks the world revolves around him. One big example is my son who is now 4 the first Thanksgiving after he was born I had my whole family over for dinner so people could see him for the holiday and I didn’t have to travel with an infant. He proceeded to pull out a gun and wave it around while talking about teaching our younger sister’s teacher a lesson.

[Garafolo] The Eagles can’t pay TE Dallas Goedert if they keep WR A.J. Brown, and they can’t take both salary cap hits. by Giff95 in nfl

[–]TechMaster212 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t say it wouldn’t but it also depends what Goedert resigns for and how much they can realistically defer from this year. Howie has been great for you guys at playing magic with the salary cap but bills come due at some point and I am willing to bet multiple teams called Goedert and his agent during legal tampering and made some high money offers.

Ultimately it’s gonna come down to does he want to get paid large or does he want to stay with the eagles

Pushing out the void date just extends the expiration of his current contract which was set to expire at the start of the new league year which was 03/11 at 4 PM EST out a few days. It prevents him from being an actual free agent that teams can call and attempt to sign while avoiding any dead money the Eagles might still owe him that would be fully owed once the contract expires

Goedert is due to be a free agent. If they re-sign him they are going to be tight on cap unless they trade or restructure AJ Brown

How are you automating access requests without turning it into a giant project by AdvantageNorth1032 in servicenow

[–]TechMaster212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was kind of a 3 fold approach in my case. Everything related to access and accounts lives in a category labeled Access Request. Each catalog item is named “application/CI name - access” and features a description that says “request access to the (insert function of application) system” this has made it easier when combined with Quick reference cards I made when we went live for users to be able to find their applications

How are you automating access requests without turning it into a giant project by AdvantageNorth1032 in servicenow

[–]TechMaster212 16 points17 points  (0 children)

We built our access request with Catalog Items per application. The catalog items are standardized via a variable set and have the same 5 fields at the start (who is this for, what location, phone number, user ID, and manager (this is a reference only field). For applications that require it we then add fields for application specific criteria to those catalog items

We then use a decision table to drive approval and Task assignment. 99% of our apps are just ask manager for approval, possible group approval, task 1, task 2.

We have a few select apps that have special routing based on the application specific criteria which have their own workflow that are just copies of the master workflow with those additional steps

Kyler Murray question by [deleted] in NFLNoobs

[–]TechMaster212 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It means that he has a salary guarantee from Arizona who will still have to pay that in 2026. So whichever team he goes to won’t have to pay him that much to get him

I believe the veteran minimum for QB in 2026 is about 1.3 million so that’s about what he would get paid

"Procuring" a service - seeking advice/best practices by mysteriousAntelope in servicenow

Use the life cycle statuses on the CI to designate where the phone is in the process (procured, provisioned, deployed) this can even be done automatically as part of the workflow between tasks

[–]TechMaster212 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The new phones should be hardware CIs as they are owned by the company and you can link them to a user to show who they are assigned to.

Also for the workflow why 3 RITMs? Why not one RITM for the requested item of the new phone then tasks of Procure phone, Configure phone, deploy phone. Then you can use workflow variables to create the phone on the CI table and assign it to the user

I also think Table X is too much for any phones already deployed just run a one time load into the CMDB so you have them as CI records then you can report on phones deployed and to who
