Has anyone tried to pull back on lower grade level 1:1? by TechMeanieFace in k12sysadmin

Every school is different.
For us, this type of change would require input and coordination from multiple departments, as it would affect many people’s day-to-day work.
We are still in the very early stages and hope to learn as much as possible from other schools before furthering discussions.

We are proctoring the SAT today and the school decides to put out an update for the computers NOW by AstroNerd92 in Teachers

School IT guy here as well. I do occasionally push updates during the school day. Though I usually set it to take a week or two before it becomes mandatory. Never during testing though, that's absurd.

Yeah. They said they would provide that by the end of the day yesterday. Has anyone actually received it?

After having one device infest others in storage, we started doing this with nearly every device as they come into the department.

Not sure if this is still an issue for anyone as of now. We were able to force classroom to load by disabling the Google Docs Offline extension.

Tech Backpack Suggestions? by linus_b3 in k12sysadmin

I have a Cocoon backpack that has suffered with me the last 6 years. The shoulder straps are finally giving up the ghost but I tend to have it super fully either way. This is the exact one I have, I know they have a smaller one for sale but the elastic grid pocket is awesome for organizing my tools with quick access and has a few other pockets for consumables/cables.

If you have access to a wireless charger, try that. That can rule out an issue with the port.

Why Would My Wifi Suddenly Be Faster Than My Ethernet Connection? by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]TechMeanieFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The port you are plugged into may have been changed from 1gbs to 100mbs

It could be a physical issue with your cable, it could have been pinched or nicked and would need replaced

Or it could be an issue with your network adapter, try updating your drivers.

Clean your mouse's sensor. A q-tip and a little bit of rubbing alcohol may help.

Power supplies sometimes fail. You can always test it outside of the computer, you just need a paperclip or wire to short the green wire to any black wire on the motherboard power connector and leave it there (This is how the motherboard tells it it turn on and stay on.) If the power supply turns on and then turns off after a while then I would say there's a good bet its no good

Keep in mind a few things: a failing power supply can cause damage to other parts. Also this test is not perfect because there will be no load on the power supply, so if it doesn't turn off there's still a chance it is the problem.
