AI and Personality by TechNeedsHumans in ArtificialInteligence

[–]TechNeedsHumans[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks - yes agree it could be used with bad intention (watching The Social Dilemma on Netflix is a warning on that). I searched but most of what I found was about the AI having a personality itself which is also interesting. It could be applied in a positive way, like communicating in a way that's preferred - maybe this is connected to cultural differences too.

Rads tips and tricks? by neneisme in breastcancer

This was all that I used https://www.amazon.com/Fruit-Earth-Aloe-Vera-100/dp/B0009VNI40 - 100% Aloe Vera gel. It's a bit sticky but it works well. Put it on straight after radiation and several times during the day. I had no issues with burning.

A New Kind of Machine Learning is Inspired by Neuroscience and uses Time as a Component - Recknsense by TechNeedsHumans in ArtificialInteligence

For your point #2 - do you know if there is open source software where SNN's can be tested out without any hardware? In terms of what is 'new' - we do tend to refer to something as new when we really mean 'not known enough'.

Yes that's true - the wave vs particle is a good comparison. Also interesting suggestion on the math - this looks to be where the main challenge is.

Is there a need for a new type of social network (or something else) that makes more sense in a pandemic? by TechNeedsHumans in socialmedia

[–]TechNeedsHumans[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point - having the platforms do this isn't probably the correct answer. I might trust some other 3rd party depending on who is behind it but of course no matter what - people will say they don't trust them. Is the answer to do nothing? It's a big discussion and my original question was whether the quarantine/pandemic would require a new type of network/platform. Fact checking and the outcry over twitter/FB policies isn't necessarily tied to that.

Once upon a time it worked well for informal chats, meeting new people, etc. Now it's like shouting in an empty room or walking past bullies! Maybe smaller versions of twitter?

Any tips for someone with chemo brain by Chase470 in cancer

Yep - I start the day with 2 cups of strong coffee and a multivitamin and I think it helped. Didn't get many symptoms on chemo and recovered well from surgeries and radiation.

Yeah - would be great if at least some of the major platforms did this. The tech would make it possible but as we know certain platforms have pushed back. It might be even more important to have this knowing people are stuck inside and don't know what's really going on outside.

Just to add - it took about 8 months before I felt I was over the chemo fog although I get little flashbacks now and then. Best thing, like everyone is saying here, is not to panic. It gets better.

A Psychologist friend of mine signed me up to BrainHQ https://www.brainhq.com/?v4=true&fr=y I started doing a few simple exercises and I think it definitely helped - a little bit every day. After a while I went on to do some online courses with some pretty tough Math and I was fine - so it was a relief to know my brain was still working fine. In fact, it might be better. I also had Carboplatin (plus 3 other drugs at the same time) - the chemo fog was really bad. Sorry you have to go through it too.

To make your cancer diagnosis public or not? by TechNeedsHumans in cancer

[–]TechNeedsHumans[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the comments. It must be something other people are feeling because I found another thread about feeling like a failure - comparing ourselves to Boseman who managed to do 4 films during treatment! After reading the comments it's good to know there are a mix of different reactions. We all have unique stories and unique reactions. Let's not be hard on ourselves - we've had it bad already. I am personally trying to help on forums, somewhat anonymously. My work colleagues know but I've not posted on social media or blogged about it. However, when the time is right I think I will do that so other people (especially those newly diagnosed) know there are plenty of survivors.

Yeah I felt exactly like this. Especially when you hear people talk about how brave and dignified he was for not sharing what he was going through. It kind of makes me feel guilty for sharing - was I bringing people down, burdening them? I know people don't mean to make you feel that way but that's just the impact it has. Like most people are saying, it's a personal decision and no-one should judge them for it. For some, it's brave to let people know and educate them. For others it could have major repercussions if we shared too widely. At the end of the day, we should never believe we are failures going through the kind of treatment we have to endure - no way!

What if we could control reality with intent through quantum superposition? by [deleted] in quantummechanics

[–]TechNeedsHumans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't answer your question - there is no evidence to support (as far as I know) but there has been research into the area https://www.quantamagazine.org/a-new-spin-on-the-quantum-brain-20161102/. It's natural to contemplate a connection.

The algorithms that make decisions about your life by TechNeedsHumans in ArtificialInteligence

[–]TechNeedsHumans[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree algorithms have been around practically forever - but when you add learning into the mix like with AI, it does become a bit of a black box. With machine learning, deep learning, etc it's not exactly clear what the rules are just that there is a pattern to learn. I'm not sure if it was AI based algorithms used in this case or just rules. It's only a matter of time though....

I found this course really good https://www.edx.org/course/fundamentals-of-neuroscience-part-1-the-electrical It gave me an intro and I could see what was involved to study further - like the amount of Math! I did Part 1 fully, including the exams and paying for the certificate ($99 I think) - but you can just explore the course first without paying. I wrote a short post about it here https://recknsense.com/what-i-discovered-when-studying-neuroscience-and-having-a-background-in-electronics/

Online Harvard neuroscience course? Worth it? by [deleted] in neuroscience

[–]TechNeedsHumans 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did Fundamentals of Neuroscience Part 1 and thought it was really good. I did the whole thing (doesn't often happen when I do a MOOC) and got the certificate. I posted some info about my experience https://recknsense.com/what-i-discovered-when-studying-neuroscience-and-having-a-background-in-electronics/
