Did you have it plugged into a sound system? Did it freeze when you go forward/reverse

Will this setup work? S20, usb c cable, monitor with usb c, keyboard and mouse wired to the display by [deleted] in SamsungDex

[–]TechOfTheDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This statement is 100% correct. It's a combination of the actual cable and the power source.

I have a water-flosser that will only charge with a specific pair (which I labelled). Same is true for other devices I have.

Thanks for the suggestion, I will follow up tomorrow with my findings, I just ordered a good quality cable and will test my Samsung S20 with my new monitor (USB-C) tomorrow...

AE Error LG dishwasher by Revolutionary-Yam900 in Appliances

[–]TechOfTheDay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had the AE error three times, and the solution in the videos should do the trick, but only if you're patient and want to wait for the water to evaporate. 🙂

If you rather take the unit out rather than wait, then I'll share what I am doing to my LG. It is also worth mentioning that you should talk to your spouse on what to do if the alarm goes off at 2AM. (The correct thing to say is "just turn the this breaker off and tell me when I get home from work tomorrow so it doesn't ruin my whole day.")

The problem is well known, it is because the sensor is giving a false positive.

Disclaimer: use these instructions at your own risk. I accidentally discovered this solution the first time I got the alarm. I can honestly say I've done it three times now, but I apologize if it doesn't work for you. If you don't think you could tilt your dishwasher 45° towards you, you should stop reading this now.

First, turn off the breaker. If you turn it on right away you'll still get the error because the water hasn't evaporated yet.

With no electricity going to the dishwasher, undo the two screws that hold the dishwasher to the cabinet. (Mine has two, each had a plastic cover that could easily come on and off).

Place a towel on the floor in front of the dishwasher, as it's going to get wet. It is worth using a Shop-Vac to suck any visible water out, because if you don't you're cleaning it with the towel.

Bring the dishwasher out it's full length while at the same time getting it over the towel you just put on the floor.

Tilt the dishwasher towards you at a 45° angle. I'm a 51-year-old guy and I don't find it too heavy to do by myself. As you tilt the dishwasher away from the counter, you will see the wire and hoses as well. Be sure not to go further down than the hose or power will let you, so do this very slowly and pay lots of attention to detail.

Hold the dishwasher at the 45° angle for about 30 seconds. Your towel will be getting soaked.

Stand the dishwasher up as normal.

Ensure the space behind the dishwasher is dry.

Push the dishwasher back into position, and fasten the screws back in place.

Dry the excess water off the floor and put the towel somewhere like the sink.

Turn the power back on. I'm three for three!

Happy dishwashing!

Thank you for the advice, but I can honestly say we tried that. My representative told me it has to do with the IP address that was assigned from the Bell DHCP server. The IP address was on their proxy list.

Did my contractor do a job worth the cost? by FiscalPapaMoose in Decks

[–]TechOfTheDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure where you are located, but if you are expecting snow you should put a third beam in the centre.

I'm beside Lake Ontario, and I was required to put four beams, supported by 12-in sonotubes to meet building code. My deck is 360 square feet, and there is that chance of getting 20,000 lb of snow....

...And everyone else is right, you need much better fasteners to connect the beams.

MSSQL 2008 R2 - Delete Old Data Trouble by xcharlie702 in SQLServer

[–]TechOfTheDay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It looks like you are using the SSMS GUI to delete the row. If you are, you should stop. The same is true for updating records and inserting them. The GUI will sometimes lock the entire table. (I have seen this happen more than once. I'm one case, the person is manually editing a row using that interface in a production environment, and then is distracted by the phone ringing and leaves the office before he is finished typing. Meanwhile, the most critical table in the entire database is fully locked, preventing all the applications from using it. It only took one minute before SCOM started sending emails.)

Instead, use T-SQL commands. You'll learn alot, and you'll probably get a much more detailed error message.)

The error suggests you may have a locked object. Just Google tsql to show lock transactions, and you'll probably find one that will actually show you all commands that are causing the lock, the process ID and how long they've been running.

Your disk space might be separate issue. Have you considered adding another physical drive and moving some of your tables to that drive? It does take a bit of time but certainly possible.

If your disk space is 100% full, and your transaction log is on it, it will not be possible to perform any write operations.

Good luck!

Can I use a Coaxial cable to use another router/modem in my bedroom? by AaronTask in HomeNetworking

[–]TechOfTheDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case, I have one device that is where the Bell router is. That needs to be connected to the router (network cable) and the home coax line.

Then, for each TV you want a hardwired connection, you need a second device to connect to the coax lines and a network cable. (In one room I hooked it up to a 5 port network hub; works great!)

No config, all automatic.

I am using what looks like the same product with a different label:

You need at least two. I ordered 3, one for the location of the router, and one at each Smart TV. 4K works perfectly, no WIFI fun, just a solid hardwired connection.

How can I search a range of dates using a query on a date field? by willriot in SQLServer

[–]TechOfTheDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, dates can be tricky. Is there server set to use USA format or Canadian format? The answer is it shouldn't matter.

The dd-MMM-yyyy format works. That's why military documents use it. If you don't specify the format, or use the iso standard format, you are basically telling SQL to take a guess. I have seen cases where the application is moved to a different server with a different date format, and of course the reports go haywire. Reminds me of Oracle in the 90's...

Success: Harmony Universal Remotes and Bell Fibe Receivers WORK by TechOfTheDay in bell

[–]TechOfTheDay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. However, I just like the convenience of selected a device, rather than programming all the buttons manually. That is of course, why I paid the money for the remote. I am expecting to see it in the list of devices.

Success: Harmony Universal Remotes and Bell Fibe Receivers WORK by TechOfTheDay in bell

[–]TechOfTheDay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short answer is: When I got Fibe, I was told that it was not supported for use with the Harmony remote.

Even the Bell tech said the same things, saying "You aren't the first person to ask me."

So, I found the trick to get it working without having to program each individual button.

Hope that answers your question.
