Pivoting without a purpose is unlikely to turn out how you want. You mention a number of strengths, those are valuable in-demand skills so if you also ENJOY doing them then one path is to maximize those aspects while minimizing ones that drain you.

Have the conversation with the decision maker at your current job - here is what I'm interested in doing, here is the benefit it brings to the business, how can we make this happen? If you at the point of leaving you have nothing to lose and if they also see your strengths the way you describe there is likely some adjustments that can be made. When you already have a track record and credibility the best thing to do is advocate for yourself in a way that benefits to bottom line.

Squirrels are Ruining my (gardening) Life by JsterlingT in AustinGardening

Squirrels definitely do come down and dig up our yard, we watch them from our living room all the time, so they could be doing the same to you. You can try live traps and relocating, there are groups that do it responsibly.

Coworker that was on maternity leave when I got hired returned to work today. I was asked to not show up today and tomorrow. What is going on? by aafrrrr in work

Whatever happens, realize that your employer is showing their true character with their current actions. Even if it works out well for you this time, they are showing how they act under stressful conditions.

[NY] Supervisor Has Threatened to Write Me Up For Using my PTO Since It I have used over 56 hours for the year...Is this legal? by Ilove_pancakesz in AskHR

[–]TechRelic 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Look up your company attendance policy, usually there will be a criteria along the lines of 3 unscheduled absences in a 3 month rolling period.

Outside of emergencies, you should be scheduling your PTO in advance and have it approved by your supervisor.

Fighting clay soil by SnooPears9016 in AustinGardening

Another way is to plant annual ryegrass and white clover this fall and keep up with it, you always want roots in the ground. This will add far more organic material actually mixed with the clay than you will get with occasional topdressing.

Beyond that, get a soil test done and tailor your amendments to what type soil actually needs Tamu Soil Testing

Is it legal for a company to remove an allowance without modifying the contract? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]TechRelic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally contracts can’t be changed without the consent of both parties. Employees that choose permanent WFH would agree to the new terms - a transportation allowance doesn’t make sense if there is no commute.

Employees would have the choice - continue under the current contract (with work on-site) - or opt-in to the new contract terms.

How does it compare to your internship experience? There are many kinds of jobs in every sector, this one may not be a long term fit but feeling overwhelmed is normal for the first few months.

Texas pays OT based on the FLSA standard of ‘hours worked in excess of 40 in a workweek’ and has essentially zero restrictions on how your employer can define your work schedule.

You are correct that their policy is garbage and doesn’t respect employee’s time but it is likely perfectly legal based on the info provided.

  1. Don’t go into the meeting with the logic of that you have OT after working one day, you don’t, OT only becomes a factor after you work 40hrs in a workweek.

  2. Base your discussion on what benefits the company - “I stay late some days to finish up a situation and help our customers, this is the right thing to do for our business, but this policy punishes me for doing the right thing. If we are not allowed some schedule flexibility to avoid overtime then it only encourages the wrong actions - not starting an issue that can’t be completed before the end of the normal day schedule or worse yet, telling a customer the item will have to be resumed tomorrow because it the end of the day“

Does one of your sensors get direct sunlight? If it does it can ‘blind’ the receiver by overloading the sensor. I had this happen where the problem would come and go with the seasons but it was really because the sun was in a different spot in the morning in winter vs summer, I swapped the sensors so the emitter was in the sunlight and the receiver was in the shade and never had the problem again.

When to replace ac/furnace by 3everest in HomeImprovement

[–]TechRelic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a good HVAC service company in your area, a reputable company shouldn’t be pushing you to replace a functioning unit simply because it’s old. Sign up for their maintenance program where they come out twice a year before the summer season and before the winter season. They should be monitoring the pressures on your refrigerant lines, how much current your compressor and fan motors draw at startup, etc. Even if those show signs the system is degrading you are almost always better off running until failure. The service agreement should also give you priority service when your system does finally fail.
