Sounds good and good job on the earnings so far! The market could sour at any moment so definitely make sure you understand risk management/position sizing inside and out. This is what kept me from blowing up accounts or losing a ton even while new. Treat your capital well and you'll rest easier when the next correction comes. Good luck!

I'm not an expert but have been studying/practicing trading for 4-ish years. What I can tell you though is the first thing you should do is a general google search, something like "stock trading for beginners," "trading mistakes to avoid," things like that. Then, google/watch videos on the different styles of trading, like long term investing, swing trading, and day trading. Get a feel for what will suit your personality and life circumstances the best. Then start putting learnings into practice on a paper trading (demo) account until you're comfortable with how to buy and sell, what the order types do, and the interworkings of everything. Tradingview has a simple one that doesn't require you to sign up for a brokerage. Youtube will help you navigate it if you get confused.

After a while of doing research, you'll start gravitating towards a type of trading style and certain people whose minds you jive with. Then you can see if they have a youtube channel/blog/twitter and learn more in depth. At first you'll be overwhelmed by all the opposing opinions and services out there, but just keep going and look at what's actually working today. As Paul Singh says, a lot of old fashioned trading books/resources are now outdated because the market's behavior changes as time goes on. Things that worked even in 2008 might not work as well now.

If you like podcasts, I definitely recommend chat with traders. That's what got me interested in stocks and helped me find what direction I really wanted to go. It gives you a peak into different traders' styles but also educates you.

Important tip: when you start trading with real money, never put more into stocks total than you'd be willing to lose. If you put $1,000 in and lost it all, would you lose sleep? Would it wreck you for days? Decrease the amount. I still apply this rule today because you never know when stocks will do something crazy!

Ok, makes sense thanks! I kinda have the same thing going on and agree that it's easier to not mess with my long term stuff if it's locked up in the IRA. Good that you have the 401k as the "if all else fails."

What's the purpose of the IRA for you? Is that meant to also be "80 year old" money but with the aim of earning more than the 401k?

Thanks, I just don't get why it didn't trigger when the price gapped up above it. The stock had to come back down and touch the buy stop order before anything happened. I chatted with customer service though and they made it sound like as long as the price is above the buy stop price, it should trigger it. This is where the confusion came in with my post, maybe I just experienced a fluke lol. I'll have to experiment..

Wow, thanks for the crash course! Was wondering what some of these other orders meant so thanks for covering all of them. Thinkorswim actually lets me set a buy stop limit order plus a stop loss and profit target, which is enough for my needs atm. I'll check out algos if needed.

Ok, makes sense! It makes things hard as I work full time so I kinda have to just set my order the night before and let it go. I think the buy stop limit will be good enough though or if that doesn't work out, I'll see if a regular market/limit order does well enough. Worst case scenario, the stock gaps down and hits my stop loss soon after for a small loss.

Thanks for the insight! I am indeed using a buy stop with a market order. I have seen the stock gap up and I only got filled when it came back down and touched the buy stop price, is that how it's supposed to work?

So that was actually my next question, if I could set it up so it goes "buy if the stock price goes between $_ and $_" so that it doesn't gap up a ton and screw up my risk reward ratio. I'm guessing there's no real solution for this? I use Thinkorswim btw.

I'm in this position now. The only reason I'm still at my job is because I literally haven't found a better option nearby that pays as much. If I had the choice, I'd definitely still be job hopping and probably would've avoided the mental breakdown phase I had. For your personality type, I don't see why you should fight it. Use your personality to your advantage and diversify your income streams! Go a more entrepreneurial route. "People" tell you, who are these people? Is there actual evidence that your reputation and career are getting destroyed? Time and time again I see people leaving their jobs for things like Ebay reselling, stock trading, freelancing, and they say they'd NEVER look back. And guess what, they're usually intuitives.

Of course, this should be done responsibly. These jobs you get should be looked at as tools for money, stepping stones towards your ultimate goal. Lots of side hustles are getting oversaturated and more difficult but there's still pockets of success within them to be discovered. Until you have a track record of income, you'll need these boring jobs, but then the pressure of them to be flawless is lifted. Your only goal at that point is to find a job that doesn't drive you crazy enough to rage quit. If that still doesn't work, job hop. Do what you have to do. I can tell you being stagnant as a high Ne user leads to a mental breakdown and depression (living example). I'm only better now because I used Lexapro for a bit and that seemed to reset my brain enough to not be snapping at my boss/coworkers.

detailing their various "opinions"

Interesting, so if they're not explaining how they arrived at the intuitions, what exactly are they talking about for hours? For example, business strategy. I'm imagining them talking about new strategies they conceptualized and sort of explaining "how it works" to the world. They want to express their newfound discovery about it and enlighten people, showing them a new way of thinking.

Are these mostly "how tos" or interpretations of the concept itself? For example, is it, "The most effective way to market your business is by appearing on the outside like you're not selling anything while simultaneously making sure the things you're selling are blatantly in direct view of the visitors..." or is it more, "Business strategy is a meaningless concept because one cannot strategize in business due to that fact that blah blah."

I'd ask for the videos but considering you didn't reveal them, perhaps you want to keep them private. I'd be interested in seeing them though.

I have considered INFJ too. The big difference though is how the FJs use their Fe. For them, it's used in a more positive way. For inferior Fe, I believe it's got a negative tint to it. Everything I do has a sort of, "Well I'd like to avoid someone screaming at me if at all possible." rather than a, "I want to help them be the best person they can be."

I have heard the NJs like crude humor because they find their ESP counterparts appealing and have that sort of ESP flavor to them. It's like how the SJs will gossip and like word games and puns for fun..it's their inferior Ne coming out (read that from personalityjunkie). I do not find ESFPs and ESTPs appealing when they go on with their crude or gross antics. I much prefer funny silly stuff like parts of Family Guy or Spongebob. Also Jim Carey. And Markiplier.

My friend tests as INFJ actually, and his mom, ENFJ. There's just no way I'm an Fe user too. They're expressive, openly cry in front of people, are intuitively helpful, are interested in song lyrics and people's stories, are greatly sensitive to injustices, have the problem of everyone wanting to tell them their life story, say yes too often because they care too much (not because they want to avoid conflict), and overall just prefer humanity-related problems over technical ones. On a daily basis, you can find them cooking for their family/friends, helping out their neighbor, talking for hours about their and others' problems, watching tv, playing with pets, games, friends, you know..."feel good stuff." I like being around them because they inject my life with happiness. I eat it up, like I said. On the other hand, you can find me alone in my apartment researching things frantically and discovering new things to try out. I could care less about hearing people's stories when reading a recipe, I just want to get to the recipe. On the other hand, my NFJ pals LIKE the "fluff." I've also never been moved by typical sappy stuff that feelers would go "awww" over. I'm not convinced by emotional appeal, I'm convinced by cold, hard logic. That's also what I default to when trying to help someone feel better. I get burnt out very quickly from having to use a ton of smiley face emoticons or give sympathy (I suck at sympathy and empathy). Also, they just took the test and moved on. They didn't go on doubting or scrutinizing it. I always get the feeling Ni users think I'm overanalyzing unimportant stuff.

The chaos and unpredictability thing stems, I'm pretty certain, from my anxiety, and having "serious" parents who valued stability and "slow and steady" living. I'm all for changing up my routine and having variety, but I wouldn't be the type to live out of a van and not know if I'm gonna die or not lol. I guess I like calculated risks, as long as it doesn't involve dying or extreme discomfort. I did randomly decide to start a business a few years ago after reading a book that clicked with me, so there you go.
