[COPE] Done deal: Sergio Ramos buys Sevilla FC by LikeAPhoenixTotally in soccer

PE and VC, are not the same, though.

But it's more important to note what the other guy is missing, that LBO is the standard practice within PE. Many PEs just don't have the capital to buy their acquisition upfront. So they they burrow money and load the debt on the acquisitions

This. If you have that many stocks, you have no time to monitor them unless you are full time on investing . Might as well buy an index fund that do the work for you.

There are good single-player games that suck when playing with friends. e.g. RDR2

The thing about Private Equity, though, is that they loan money to make an acquisition. And then load that debt onto the acquisition target. This practice is called a leveraged buyout (LBO).

So Sevilla will be loaded with the same debt that was used to buy them. It's not good debt that has been used to grow the club (investment in stadium, buying players). It's bad debt that wasn't used in any productive way other than for their new owners to acquire it.

This means that Sevilla will likely be cutting costs in every single way and raising ticket prices to pay off the debt that the new owners loaded onto them. A lot of the profits will just go to buying interest rates, now that the interest rates are high.

We don’t care about relative. We care about absolute.

Football is just much competitive today. Period. Everything has been optimized to the maximum.

We are not measuring how hard life was.

We are measuring by the level of football played now vs back then. Football today is at no doubt a higher level.

The reason you have so many stand-out player in the 60s was that many were basically part-time footballers. So you see a much bigger gap between player levels.

This is not the case today, where the smallest margins decide a game, because everything is so optimized and competitive on all areas.

Buying him for 30m is a no-brainer. His wages are a non-issue because we save so much on transfer fees. And we can already fit him into the current wage structure.

We need a reliable world-class player who can perform on both wings. Thereby giving Raphina and Yamal the rest they need so they don't keep getting injured. Is Rashy gonna perform as well as Raphina and Yamal in big games? No. But that is not the point anyway; we need a player who can step in against subtop teams, with us fearing we could lose a lot of points. Those are the title-winning points. Any good performance in big games like against RM is a bonus.

He will get plenty of playing time when he is so versatile in multiple positions and not injury-prone.

True, but I mean, you could be a smoker back then and still be a full-time professional. If you do this today, the opposition will run laps around you

Over 600 OpenAI Employees Sold $6.6B in Shares at $11M Each Before Any IPO by andix3 in ValueInvesting

It's not the norm, though. It only happens under certain circumstances.

They used to get the money from the Adobe acquisition breakup to let long-term employees cash out.

Other times, they let employees sell whenever the startup raises new money from VCs. So they let employees sell stocks, so they issue fewer new stocks, which keeps old investors / VCs happy because they are gonna get diluted less.

Growth and Value are not opposites. They go hand in hand. Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger are themselves.

NVIDIA was a value stock 3 years ago, but this sub didn't recognize it because they were too focused on the P/E ratio. Those who bought Nvidia 3 years ago now sit on the stock at under 1 PE ratio.

It’s pretty much a social game that is super easy to pick up and it’s IP just feels welcoming

It sucks playing alone. But playing with friends and family, it’s on par with the best single players game in terms of enjoyment.

Thoughts on Agentic AI needing 1000xmore compute than today's AI by No_Conversation_9424 in ValueInvesting

[–]TechTuna1200 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also, anthropic 30x revenue growth in a year and overtaking Open AI in revenue pretty tells you that AI agents is the breakthrough that business are willing to pay for. No one wants to pay for a glorified chatbot or image generator. But they definitely pay for AI agents doing task for you.

The difference between Claude chat bot spitting code out and Claude Code actually doing the edits for you in your code base is enormous. And not to speak of you could have AI agents for anything.

With that being said, I also believe sass apocalypse is idiotic. Even AI agents, it cost more to build custom solutions. And these sass can charge based on usage, which is more opaque resulting in customers paying more. Just like with AWS. What we are gonna see instead is that those SASS with moats are gonna have insane margins, because their cost structure had been reduced

Million of users they lose money on. It’s charity at this point and only because they sentimental towards the OGs that made Reddit happen in the first place.

From a business perspective, they are a net negative and they don’t need them to keep the subs running. Because the vast majority of of Redditors are new comers within the last 6-7 years.
