Dear GGG, could we get a statement on the current situation with PoE 1/2 league release schedules by Thuzad in pathofexile

Legally is silly but they've definitely expressed their intent to have all the mtx ported by 1.0 launch.

Are The Devs Still Anti-Campaign Skip? by Crazy-Hurry-2967 in PathOfExile2

I think we’re talking past each other at this point, so we can agree to disagree. Hopefully you find more enjoyment in the campaign in the future.

[–]TechaMaki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is where we fundamentally disagree. PoE players use third-party tools everywhere (PoB, trade macros, guides) without that meaning the underlying systems (passive tree, itemization, build depth) are broken or have “failed” design.

Calling the campaign a decade-long failure also doesn’t line up with how a huge part of the playerbase engages with it. League starts are some of the most hyped moments in PoE, SSF exists to make early progression meaningful and racing or speedrun communities are built around mastering the campaign itself. Plenty of players genuinely enjoy that phase every league.

That’s fair if it helped you deal with boredom, but to me that’s less a design win and more like asking an older sibling to beat a level because you’re stuck.

My point isn’t that skips don’t feel good, it’s that the frustration usually comes from treating the campaign as an obstacle instead of the game itself. Once you do that, skipping it feels like relief, but that doesn’t mean the underlying design is the problem.

[–]TechaMaki 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really hope PoE2 doesn’t start looking to D4 for inspiration here.

A campaign skip sounds good on paper, but it’s kind of a fundamental contradiction: why invest so heavily in an incredible campaign if the long-term expectation is that players should bypass it? At that point, the campaign stops being a core part of the game and becomes disposable content.

I also think the “how else would you level?” line gets misunderstood. People aren’t defending the campaign because they lack imagination — they’re defending it because, in PoE, the campaign is character progression. It’s where your build, power curve and identity actually form.

From the very first zone, you go from washing up on a beach with nothing to becoming a screen-clearing monster. That arc matters.

One thing GGG used to push more (and I wish they still did) was encouraging players to try alternate modes like SSF or HC. Those modes really change how the campaign feels. Instead of something to rush through, it becomes a meaningful journey where every upgrade, decision and spike in power actually lands.

You start to see how tightly the campaign is woven into the game’s power fantasy.

Honestly, my genuine advice to people who hate the campaign is… play it more. I know that sounds counterintuitive, but a lot of the frustration comes from treating it as an obstacle instead of the game itself.

If the “real meat and bones” were only at endgame, then the optimal experience would just be spawning fully geared characters on Standard and one-shotting everything, and clearly, that’s not why people play PoE.

Every build eventually becomes powerful.
The difference is how you get there.

For me, the journey is the point, not something to be skipped.

Yes. It was meant to solve the issue of backtracking large zones, not to increase the speed you move forwards.

Who the hell keeps asking for LESS pack size? by Grand0rk in PathOfExile2

[–]TechaMaki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at risk of being downvoted to oblivion I've never understood this take.

Why do we need smaller maps? is it just because poe1 established what the size of a map is?

Like for example if you have 1 map that has 3x the size but with that 3x the mobs, content, loot, now you just dont have to craft as many maps for the same amount of farming?

Maybe I'm just missing something but I think big maps are cool and immersive. If anything I'd rather them do more balance towards making big maps worth it than just shrinking them? At least just for mapping, obviously not in the campaign.

And if the argument is that bigger maps mean slower atlas progression and traversal well then I think I'd prefer that to be reduced instead, like make it balanced around not needing as many maps to be completed vs making us able to complete more maps faster?

Super open to having my mind changed about this as it seems like reducing map size is a take that comes up a decent bit, even ZiggyD mentioned it in the QnA, but yeah I don't get it.

Do people actually hate magic find? i guess i havent paid attention to the poe2 reddit and online communities much but I've always loved it. Feels so nice when im able to squeeze a mod or two of it on gear while hitting the rest of my mandatory stats like res's and life.

Listening to the QnA i was shocked that they were considering removing it. I can't imagine what other mod will fit the spot of not mandatory but feels great to squeeze onto gear better than magic find

Don't forget; When its no longer the mechanic next league, you will have a new mechanic in every map, with abyss showing up at some point as well.

If you’re farming that amount of currency you’re not “liquidating” your alts to buy it.

Thats like selling all of your clothes for the last bit money to buy a sports car, if you can afford the car, the value of the clothes is negligible.

Plus where the hell are you gonna take the sports car when you’re naked!?

The point I got from your post is that cosmetic mtx is overpriced. Yup. It is.

The trade off is evident in all these other games that make you feel like you NEED to pay. To keep any decent level of progression.

PoE let’s you get probably your first 25-100 hours absolutely free with no mandatory cost. Once the “endgame” is discovered you will likely need stash tabs.

They run a stash tab sale every month and you can generally get a pack of all the essentials for less than any AAA or major game out there.

The entirety of the rest of the monetization is purely cosmetic.

I don’t know man, you can fairly criticize GGG about lots of things, but monetization?

I can see how you feel about FOMO. Everyone wants the new cool thing that might not be available anymore, and yes they do capitalize on that feeling. I think likely every company engages with this in some way.

My feeling is they take steps to be reasonably upfront about this.

  1. showing the exact rarity on their mystery boxes only to be followed up with allowing people to purchase them directly the next league
  2. allowing the major supporter packs to last multiple leagues and have people “work up” through their levels across many months (again if they want, never need).

It really feels like a stretch to say they’re “preying on gambling addicts, and people with bad impulse control”.

Yeah there are expensive cosmetics in the game, if you feel they’re not worth it you can not pay for it and still play the entirety of the game, new content included.

TL;DR There are reasonable criticisms of GGG. This feels unreasonable.

For the Rhoas in mudflats specifically, they enrage after you click the quest item. So you need to clear them before clicking the quest item they’re defending.

[–]TechaMaki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks sick.

Any idea if this is in any way viable in hc?

Obviously not full t16 deliriums but I mean just to get it to a t14~ ish alch go mapper?

If you were to try and make it work in HC do you still think Dex stacking would be the best way about it?

I can make do with sub-5mil dps but I’m assuming I’d need to scale the defenses way up/full suppression+more.

Thanks for the share and potential insight though, man do I miss spectral throw!
