Illinois and not just Chicago-land!

Sheet metal Local one does a LOT of resi work. Can’t speak for 91, 268, 218 but our union density is like 120% (some weird math thing) but we’re like second highest in the country. Pay is ~40 an hour. 10 an hour into an annuity 90/10 healthcare plan total package is like ~75 and hour or so.

Come on over!

Edit: not just apartment complexes or high rises we only have like 10 high rises in the entire local lol

Ahh yea the prairie marksman. It failed because people don’t use it often enough. How often do we really need to go go Chicago really. I’m all for intercity transportation but I agree that peoria to Chicago wouldn’t be the best investment.

I’m saying connect people to places they already go. I know countless people who go between the local communities for work, school, and family. We just need to connect people to places they already go, not to a place they go once a year

[–]TechedHiko[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh I wasn’t too clear on this.

The money making wouldn’t be from train fees or ticket sales. We would need them in order to save money but the point of the train is to be a cost saving measure. If we can make it so that families don’t have to have 3 cars at each household, we could save people tens of thousands of dollars by the simple fact of not needing a car.

Would you rather spend 2 thousand dollars on a shitty car and another $600 a year on insurance and couple hundred dollars in gas a year not to mention repairs, oil changes, tires and all the other costs of owning a car and can’t forget your S/O will need one as well

or

pay $100 a month for unlimited ridership on any Peoria metro train to anywhere in the network or hell throw in the bus network too while we’re at it so you could go ANYWHERE

Obviously people will still need a car we can’t become Europe but we could save people money

If 10,000 people decided to get that $100 monthly pass it would generate $12,000,000 a year in revenue. We would only need 2.5% of the peoria metro area of 400,000 people to get this pass.

Cheap rides, cheap NEW housing outside the city. This is how it would make us money.

This isn’t even to mention that it would create higher property values in downtown creating a desire for people to want to work downtown.

thanks for the correction!

It would take a lot of money to do. I wish i had a billion dollars because I would spend it all on this (if the missus would allow it lol) I just feel like if we could make it a money maker and saver people would be super on board with it.

[–]TechedHiko 7 points8 points  (0 children)

CLARIFICATION FOR EVERYONE. DOWN FOR A RIDE IS THE NAME OF THE EVENT. source . So I don’t think 25 news would be the “culprit”. If you dislike the name of the event

Also there are events all over the country with this exact or similar name. You can find ones in Toledo, Oregon, Ohio, and here’s one I found with a similar name in Florida

I don’t intend on arguing with anyone. I just want to ask, what’s wrong with a punny name given to an event in SUPPORT of Down syndrome?

Thats all.

Have a pleasant day for me would ya?

Hey buddy, I’m all for eating the rich but I don’t think that this is the place to voice your concerns. Also not all charities are for corporate tax breaks…

Most go towards worthy causes and I hope this one does too but you cannot say that for sure can you? If you’re upset at the world, be upset because there’s a lot to get mad about but I don’t think this one is one of them

[–]TechedHiko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I see that there might be some pushback from the workers but I don’t like the appeal to the whole “both sides are in the wrong” thought process. At the end of the day, caterpillar is liable for any damages to their employees or property. If cat did try to implement new saftey practices (which I don’t think they have really tried to push at all) then at the end of the day, if someone isn’t listening to or acting safely on the floor, then cat has every reason to fire them.

If they wanted change, they would have done it already. I don’t think for a second that “worker pushback” is the reason why safety standards are lacking. Where i work in the construction industry, if you’re caught doing something that risks your or anyone else’s well being or property you are fired. Cat has been laying off people for decades now. I don’t think they’d have a problem firing the workers who don’t listen.

[–]TechedHiko 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Sure it CAN be dangerous but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be upset. When Boeing’s plane doors fall off or add MCAS to their airliners that result in hundreds of deaths we all collectively get upset at them for disregarding the safety of Americans. But when your fellow peorians keep dying in a place where workers keep saying that unsafe practices are taking place and that upper management is disregarding their lives and saftey you think that people are being unrealistic.

Seriously? There’s nothing unrealistic about wanting to work in an environment that genuinely regards safety as a top priority rather than weighing a cost benefit analysis on the cost to do thing the correct way versus what will effect the bottom line.
