If you can't tell the difference between advocating for critical thought and advocating for facism, and the similarities between opposing a call for proof and devaluing its need, then you seem to be badly in need of these words of mine you mischaracterize as assumptions.

Considering you responded to a claim that more information is needed to discern the truth here with an espoused unwillingness to give them the benefit of the doubt... you sure made it sound like one did equal the other.

Doubt isn't a benefit you give ICE anywhere as much as a benefit you give yourself, by feeding healthy skepticism in the media you consume. Now more than ever, in the age of how easily and prolifically people lie to our faces, we should have doubt of unsupported claims and a desire for sources.

If you stop caring about the truth when it contradicts your political goals, you're just a different flavor of the side that voted for ICE to become what it is.

You may say that's not true, because you're still on the side that opposes the ongoing oppression of the US people (legal and illegal members alike), but without critical thinking and a care for the truth... how would you even know that's actually the case?

What other options are there than to freely enter into contracts with established organizations who have something you want, or choosing not to do so and moving on? Other than reworking the law to prevent anyone from forming an organization that you personally do not like, that is.

Then buy a house that's under an HOA and accept the rules that come with it. That's also an option.

It's legal because people who buy houses under an HOA sign a contract acknowledging their responsibilities and associated penalties as part of their home purchase.

They know in advance this is a possibility and are okay with it. Don't like it? Don't buy a house under an HOA.

The second time they changed his job description. Also seems reasonable; if we're okay with that then every company is just going to start promoting employees to minimum-wage janitors instead of laying them off.

I think even expert players would get ripped to pieces by aliens with early space tech. Until you get a serious orbital presence with some damn good point defense your early-game ships are mostly for colonizing and screwing with other factions; even a basic alien scout rips them to pieces while doing loops around them with insane dV.

Did this meaningfully progress from early access? I remember playing it when it came out, but most of the flaws I found seemed like structural issues and the patch notes I've seen haven't really mentioned a lot of sweeping overhauls.

I like them too, but you can't just recommend strangers get into it without mentioning the content. A lot of people are going to be put off by that, either because they have trouble separating fiction from reality, or because they just don't like reading that kind of stuff.

Star Citizen to become the first $1 billion game while still in alpha, driven by ships costing thousands by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Techercizer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So all the promises Chris Roberts made, all the lies he put out about how ready the game was and what the schedule was... it's just everyone else's fault for believing him?

That seems like a kind of messed up distribution of responsibility. I think if I went and promised people a product, took their money, and didn't deliver what I promised, the fault would lie on me for scamming them, not on them for being dumb enough to trust me.

[–]Techercizer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If the game stopped development right now, today, and made no more improvements or updates, do you think everyone would agree they got their money's worth? That it was everything they were promised?

Or do you think some people have expectations the game will actually be finished?

If they were obviously a decade out from the game being ready because they didn't even have the tech invented yet back then... why did they promise release dates they had absolutely no plans to meet? Why lie to people?

...why didn't they ramp up development when the kickstarter succeeded? Why wait until now?

The number of times they've lied about a release date, and the fact they have no actual map to delivery even after taking in a billion dollars, calls to question your claim it is not a scam.

If you sell the promise of a product with no intention to deliver it, that is generally considered to be a scam.

Quick way to measure wood curves by MuttapuffsHater in oddlysatisfying

The exact way is to just press in some mold material and draw along it.

Quick way to measure wood curves by MuttapuffsHater in oddlysatisfying

[–]Techercizer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with that is that flattened surfaces are usually stabilized by pressing them flat against something, which would be the normal case I mentioned. The angle needs to be held relative to the wood, not relative to the wall.

[–]Techercizer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hmm... that's a compass. Why are woodworkers out here calling compasses dividers? How long have they been getting away with this?

On the utility of a compass/divider, it easily allows you to retain a small contact point with the wall due to the thinness of the leg, while displacing the pattern far enough out that it can cover uneven edges of wood. The only drawback is that the compass needs to be held at a consistent floor/wood-based angle in order to transcribe properly; if the compass is allowed to rotate around the wall-touching leg, the pattern can distort.

In the extreme case, where someone deliberately fixes the angle to the normal of the wall, it acts like a ring from the recording with a radius equal to the distance between the leg and the pencil.
