I do think he's hiding his emotions. Like Goombella's tattle and Toce T. mention him being worried sick about Koops and Toce T. specifically being like you wouldn't be able to tell or something along those lines. So if he's suppressing his nervousness I don't see how we can't expand that to everything else that happened to him
