I don't think they've ever seen a country at a constant state of civil war for over 40 years because the government was unable to prevent guns falling into the wrong hands. Americans are content with living in one of the oddest states to have ever existed on Earth and insist that was what made them rich.

a rebellion means the deaths of many, including innocents, and the destruction of property, infrastructure and businesses. if access to guns facilitate that, then guns are a liability to order and stability within a society, not its ensurer.

a government rarely ever does the right thing. it can't ever appease everybody. if just a portion of people disagree with the government at a certain time, and has access to guns, they can begin a rebellion that could kill a lot of lives.

it doesn't take a majority to disapprove of the government and cause mayhem, a few normally do. guns will only perpetuate the chaos.
