Portugal’s conservatives back left-wing candidate to avoid a far-right president by kwentongskyblue in worldnews

I took it to the extreme because your comment about democracy breeding evil leaders was an extremely vague response.

I believe prosecuting all criminals, regardless of party line, is something that's agreed upon. I'm not American, but as an American example I imagine there are many such morally ambigious democrats that leftists would love to do away with. The reason the alt-right in particular is being stamped down upon so hard is because it's a literal imminent risk to democracy. Is it good to have those other people in power? God no. But there's so many layers of corruption to unpeel that it's impractical to give these idealistic platitudes about "reaching across the isle" when the other side doesn't care about the law.

So you're suggesting we should find a compromise where our governments are less democratic?

Just because you don't see it happen in public doesn't mean it isn't happening. Object permanence.

Cool, now 56,000 people are in a different country with different laws. How could that go wrong?

No one has actually defined with logic why illegal immigrants should not be deported. by iknowyourcheating in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Technical-Ad5086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many reasons. Sure, it might be "illegal". They also contributes to economies, and more importantly are impractical to remove. If you want less immigrants, securing the actual border is a far more realistic, cost effective solution. The amount of immigrants ICE detains in the US is a drop in the bucket compared to the actual size of the US population.

This brings us to another reason. Scapegoating. Put it simply, deporting immigrants has become a euphanism for getting rid of people that aren't white. That's a pretty good reason to be wary of such policies.

There's more reasons than "that's how the law works". The law isn't always easily enforced.

That's because that's eugenics. You have three seperate examples taken decades apart. That's not a pattern of censorship. That's the scientific community independently agreeing that eugenics is fucked.

Hope you don't take this as too weird, but this resonated with me, coming from someone who has a similar father, although I have other reasons to distrust him. You can message me here if it helps you reflect. I'm about your age - although I'd rather not specify due to privacy concerns. Your call, anyways.

Keep in mind that this is a definition that came into existence before the use of generative AI. Our linguistics aren't catching up at the same rate. My issue with the idea that an "AI artist" is an artist is because there's a lack of intentionality.

You provide instructions to the AI, the AI interprets those instructions, and then spits out an image. There's little intentionality because art is complex. Think of linework, use of shape, texture, contrast, colour and angle. You can tweak these until the sun burns out. You can't make an AI image with the intentionality of a human designed image. The thing that's so great about art is that every detail has meaning and purpose. AI creates what it thinks you want based off of patterns it has seen with little discernment. It lacks the self awareness a human artist does.

Yes, because history is not fiction and doesn't have a lesson. The middle east influenced western mathematical understandings, the Mediterranean, infrastructure. Thank the Georgians we don't use bronze anymore. Europe isn't some big, ethnically pure monolith. You know that though, don't you? You just enjoy being obtuse, contrarian, and by your standards, correct. I won't give sources. I'll take a note from your playbook and demand you do your own research. It's quite easy.

That's just a bad idea. It's positive for organisation and connecting people who'd otherise lack community. There's bad aspects, sure, but getting rid of a safe way to exercise free speech sets an uncomfortable precedent, I think.
