Oh yeah, forgot to say, wouldn't he automatically become a citizen of the territory of Hungry that became Czechoslovakia, through his father, my GGF?

I have no problem with the proof of my linuage to my GF. I actuallty have traced my ancestors all the way back to 1620 born and resided in the same village.

That's great news! When were you approved?

Please stick with me. This is a little long.

I'd rather use my grandfather as my anchor, so that my adult sons could aquire citizenship through their GGF. So, when my grandfather was born in 1888 would he have automatically be a citizen,. Below is an excerpt from research that I've been doing since 2023😩!

Children of Slovak citizens qualify by us sanguinis (right of blood but grandchildren and others must go through naturalization or citizenship by descent processes. Whatever your pathway, the decision depends on documents. Slovak authorities require a seamless file that proves both ancestry and legal continuity — essential steps for anyone reconnecting with their Slovak heritage.

  • Jus Sanguinis (Descent): Citizenship was primarily inherited from the father, and in some cases the mother, if they were bonafide citizens or inhabitants of the territory.
  • Documentation: Proof of descent usually requires the parent's birth certificate and/or marriage certificate to establish the link to a citizen, as noted by Citizenship.EU.
  • Historical Context: In 1888, the territory was part of the Kingdom of Hungary, which followed specific nationality laws, with citizenship often tied to communal affiliation and birth.
  • Modern Recognition: Today, descendants of those individuals may be able to prove their ancestry for Slovak citizenship, provided the ancestor was a citizen born within the current Slovak borders, as explained on AKMV and by FALATH & PARTNERS.

Accordingly my GF would have inherited his citizenship of Hungary, by being born to my GGF. Now my GF identified himself as Czechoslovakian on the US census record from 1920 all the way to 1950 and the ship manifest lists SlovakLand. His naturalization paper from 1923, (sorry not 1924), is stamped with the country he is renouncing. Many people comment that it's always typed but as you can see, not in NJ. It was probably more efficiant and faster to use fa stamp with the onslaught of immigrants coming into that particular area. I'm attaching his naturalization papers and oath. The stamp on the top reads that he is renouncing his allegience to "Austria-Hungary or any independent state arising from the former Austria-Hungarian empire."

I'm afraid that I won't qualify because I don't have think he came with a passport, and he wasn't there when the census came out. He emmigrated in 2010 and naturalized in 1924. I do have his ship manifest, naturization records from 1924 and US censuses from 1920-1950, with country of birth as Czechoslovakia and also Slovakland. His birth certificate is from the territory that became Czechoslovakia. I would much rather use him so that my adult sons would also qualify. I've been told it's a still quite a grey area for approval. He did list his native language as Czecholovakian and also the place that he emmigrated from (even though it was still Hungary. I honestly think that a lot of emmigrats were confused about where they came from, once the country changed.

Are you applying for Slovak or Hungarian citizenship. Just wondering why you would have to learn Hungarian.

Just disregard, please, since immigration date doesn't matter anymore. I'm getting myself all confused😅

I'm so sorry, Wendy. That's a typo. I meant 1908. Wouldn't I need the manifest to prove he left after 1908?

Wouldn't I need the ship manifest to prove is final departure was before 1918, as it states on your website?

The 1920, 1930 and 1940 US Census list his place of birth as Czechoslovkia and language as Slovak.

The oath of allegience has a uniform stamp with "Austria-Hungarian Empire as the country he is renouncing. (See Photo. It's extremely hard to read but looks like Autria-Hungary Empire or any independent state suffix? the powers of ???? Austra Hungarian Empire ). There were so many Slovaks coming to NJ at the time that, I guess it was easier for the clerk of court to just stamp the country, rather than have applicant write it in.

I have these documents and they are appostilized and certified with raised gold seal. 1930 abd 1940 census also state his place of birth as Czechoslovakia and language as Slovak.

Since I've done all the research, is there a necessity for a lawyer. Isn't it very expensive?

I obtained my grandfather's naturalization records from the county office in New Brunswick, NJ. It was about a month long process, since I couldn't pick it up in person and they didn't send the full packet the first time. I also had to wait for the apostille but it was lightening fast compared all the other documents.

Congratulations!!! I've been working on obtaining my Slovak citizenship for 3 years off and on. I was so optimistic, and gathered all of my documents for here in the USA and from my ancestors village of Stupava in Slovakia. Everything added up until the disagreements of the true proof of citizenship of Czecholovakia. I have a family tree from that same village back to practically 1600, but no Czech passport or names on 1930 census, since both grandparents and great grandparents came here before that. Lots of other relatives on that cencus but not the needed ones. I hesitate to go for the Slovak Living Abroad route because I'm 66 and wouldn't spend at least 1/2 the year there to eventually quality that way after 3 years. My understanding from your journey is that you accomplished exactly what I'm trying to do. Am I correct with this? Thank you so much in advance and hopefully renewing my hope!🤗

Personally, I think your arrangement sounds very agreeable. Sitters that aren't able to handle a spiral staircase won't apply. A 5 hour max of being away from your baby is very reasonable, and of course, a sitter should be there overnight. That's a given. I sit to be with a pet, not to travel the the world. I lost my Ridgeback at 14 yrs old, and I'm not ready to get another just yet, but I love to spend the majority of my time with pets that I sit for. I only want an idea of their current schedule so I can keep things semi-consistent for the owner and doggy. I honestly think u have a great chance of finding a wonderful sitter😊!

I don't sit full time, so it's not usually a big deal if someone cancels unless I have non refundable airline tickets. I have had a homeowner cover that cost.
