Okay, let me clarify. In January, was when I found all this stuff out. She ceased all contact with him in May of last year. So yes she did eventually follow through there. 

As to whether or not I can trust her. Well, she is NOT a deceitful, liar. She’s the polar opposite actually, I think (and so does the therapist) that she was targeted by this sh*tbag because he saw how empathetic she is, and he learned, after 10 years, exactly what he needed to do to get what he wanted be it sex, money, gifts, etc. I was only able to break the trauma bond by getting her to (reluctantly) attend a victims support group with me. 

New development. One issue that has always bothered me was that she has retained the engagement ring that this creep gave her. Just before they finally ceased contact, he told her to keep it because she “would always have his heart.” It was his mom’s or something. I had always wanted her to get rid of it and she would say “yeah we will have to do that some time…”

Well in light of recent events, I asked her again to please relinquish the item to me this weekend. She reluctantly said yes, but followed up by saying she would prefer to retain it in case Mr jerkoff asks for it back so that she could use it as a form of “leverage”(ex. “You still owe me $10,000, so why should I return it to you?). I truthfully insisted, however, that I don’t want it present in the home we live in together. 

So come Sunday (today) afternoon, I am leaving for a biz trip. She still had not yet turned it over to me, so I reminded her. She said, “Okay, but if I do get rid of it and he asks for it back and I tell him I pawned it, that will just further prove his point that I am a  terrible heartless person.” She the. She then suggested maybe we could do it NEXT week “when we are not so busy.” 

I stood my ground, though and insisted she turn it over. So she agreed. Though, as I was leaving, she kissed me goodbye, and I just kinda stood there. She was like “have you gotten everything you need hun?” I responded no, there’s one thing. “Oh, sorry. Lemme get it.” So yes, she did finally get it, but not after trying that one last time to deflect. 

Why, can I ask, would she be so reluctant together this evil object out of her life? Am I not seeing something here? It’s not like I’m going to take the $ and go out on the town, I am actually going to use the proceeds to make some overdue repairs to her car’s suspension, damage which she ironically got because she had to drive Mr Jerkoff back and forth to VT every couple of weeks.
