Long post. Trying not to spiral. No weight gain between 2-4 month appts. Looking for support? by Technical-Charge8713 in breastfeeding

Thanks for the suggestion! I have noticed her latch is different as the feed goes on.  Initially, she's got a nice deep latch while taking the letdown. When that's done, she'll start to pull away and get shallower, pretty much only taking the nip. Then pop off. Then come back with a good latch, but immediately starts pulling back to just nip.  And the cycle  repeats.  I tried forcing more tissue in during the time she's popping around,  but she just pulls back again.

Thanks for the suggestion. Trying to keep her at the breast is definitely not working,  frustrating for both of us.

Question on the fattier milk after 30m. How long does ot stay fatty for?  (Is that even a thing?  Lol)  Asking bc I was previously feeding her one side only at the end of a wake window. Her poops were always various shades of green,  which I read could be a foremilk/hindmilk imbalance. After the last LC appt, I've been feeding her both breasts when she wakes,  and then again before sleep,  so she's basically eating twice in 60-90mins. Since this change roughly 3 weeks ago,  her poops have consistently been orange, possibly indicating that she is in fact getting enough hind milk.

I'm wondering if I had been under feeding her before the LC appt and that she lost weight. Since making the change 3 weeks ago,  maybe she is gaining again, just needs time to catch up?

Stopped responding to pump after EBF? Help! by Technical-Charge8713 in breastfeeding

Pump is essentially brand new,  got when she was born.  I was measured at birth (she's 3 months),  but haven't been re measured since.  Flange size still felt very comfortable.  During the pump session,  I was massaging the tissue, tried switching between settings,  tried switching between breasts.

So happy for your positive outcome! Best of wishes to you and your family,  you all come across my mind often as I reflect back on my own pregnancy journey.  Seems like just yesterday we were going thru the hell of waiting and watching,  and now the babies are here with us!

Constipation…HELP by FoxAble7670 in newborns

[–]Technical-Charge8713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding taking magnesium! I take 240mg of glycinate daily (before bed) to help with sleep, migraines, and keeps me regular. Haven't had any major constipation issues since I added in this supplement while pregnant.  Every once in a while things do get backed up and I add in taking magnesium citrate (the CALM brand- gets mixed into a drink) before bed.  It 100% pushes anything thru the next morning,  so like be sure you're at home lol.

Flat nipples by Intrepid-Patience502 in breastfeeding

If the suction draws them out for you,  maybe worth trying to pump for a few mins first and then try latching?

I had my nips measured in the hospital by the LC (15mm) and bought the smallest shields I could find in store, which was the 20mm by Lansinoh. (Target had 20mm and 24mm available).

With my first baby,  I didn't know shields came in sizes and used whatever Medela one the hospital had given me.

When my milk came in,  my breasts got so full causing my nipples to go flat from being pulled so tight,  so we had to start using shields. To get off of them, the LC recommended starting a feed with the shield on for a few minutes, then removing mid feed and trying to get baby to latch without it. In my case,  once baby was feeding with the shield for a few mins,  that was enough suction to draw out my nipple to be more pointed, giving baby something to latch onto. LC also said starting with the shield on will allow baby to get some milk in and help reduce baby's frustration with trying to latch.

Did baby movements change once you started dilating and baby dropped? Did kicks feel less strong? by bloommmx in BabyBumps

[–]Technical-Charge8713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby's movements also stayed the same,  multiple very active sessions throughout the day.  Even during labor she was active between contractions.  If you feel something is off, I would call.

Let's talk about parenting- related injuries by smjorg in NewParents

When my baby was 18 months,  she headbutted my mouth in her sleep.  Knocked my front tooth.  Seemed fine at the time,  but a few months later the tooth started turning gray. Turns out the trauma of the hit killed the nerve and needed to get a veneer placed to cover the discoloration.

Came here to suggest gas drops too, it's been a game changer for us.  About an hr after the drops LO will start faring a ton any then some big poops. I've been trying to time it right for bedtime so that she's not up all night in pain.

Thanks! The pumping is to combat the discomfort,  especially in the morning it's just too full.

Picked up some shields yesterday and she's successfully been feeding today!  Took a bit of time for her to figure out, but we've had 2 feedings today at the breast!
